Barricades go up in front Police Headquarters

Law enforcement officials placing barricades in front Police Headquarters

Barricades are presently being erected in front of Police Headquarters by law men.

The reasons for the barricades are unclear, however, the police might be anticipating protest action since opposition Senator, Dr. Thomson Fontaine is expected at Police Headquarters on Monday morning for questioning in relations to a public meeting held in Roseau last Tuesday.

Fontaine was taken into custody in Roseau on Sunday afternoon and questioned at Police Headquarters. As news of the matter spread, a crowd converged on the area in support.

He was eventually released and was carried through the streets by jubilant supporters who at the same time shouted, “Skerrit must go.”

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton said on Monday morning that word is out that he will be arrested today “in connection with Skerrit’s bogus story about a plot to overthrow the government.”

Following the opposition’s public meeting last Tuesday, violence flared in Roseau and several businesses were vandalized.

The opposition organizers have distanced themselves from the violence saying it had nothing to do with the public meeting. They said it took place hours after the meeting was over.

However, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said the matter was part of a plan to overthrow the government by storming and occupying the Financial Center, where the office of the Prime Minister is located.

DNO is following all the latest developments and will publish information as it becomes available.

Arrest all those involved. Put them before the court. They must pay for their action. I am already disappointed that none of them have been charged so far.

I am not a supporter of either side. But That’s crying wolf. No need for the violence over passports as many many countries sell their passports and all have issues with crooks. No need for violence just because you cannot win an election. You have obviously planned poorly. Please change this ill advised strategy to win at the polls. Very Low support for this stupidity. STOP IT!

The People Speak at General Elections my friend.
Linton knows what the people will say in the next election
So he and his boys can’t wait for that
    Their New Strategy:
    Create Chaos, Wreck havoc,
Drag Dominica’s name in the Mud
and whatever is left, they’ll take it.
But Skerrit and the Dominican MAJORITY ready for them!
Check History: Failed revolutions don’t get the hype of successful ones, but there’s been plenty of them!
The popular successful one in Dominica against Patrick John. The hardly mentioned failed revolution by Patrick John against Eugenia Charles .

In 1981, a small but heavily armed force of misfits from the United States and Canada set off on an unlikely mission: to invade the impoverished Caribbean island of Dominica, overthrow its government in a coup d’etat, and install a new bought-off prime minister. For two years, the gangleaders recruited manpower, wooed investors, forged links with the mob, stockpiled weapons, and planned their assault. They called it Operation Red Dog. They were going to make millions. All that stood in their way were two federal agents from Louisiana on the biggest case of their lives. Bayou of Pigs tells a remarkable story of foreign military intervention, revolutionary politics, greed, treachery, stupidity, deceit, and one of the most outlandish crimes ever attempted: the theft of a nation.

    Deja Vu!

If only Mr. Linton and all those accusers would come forward with some concrete evidence….why rage war for no reasons? why put your self in trouble and cause shame and destruction when there is no evidence to substantiate the claims and accusations that are being made by persons who at the end of the day, after encouraging you to misbehave turn around and distance themselves from what you did, leaving you to face your troubles on your own… People it is not worth it, there is more at stake that meets the eye. Everything in darkness must come to light so until the evidence is presented, let the elected government run the country and let peace and order prevail

mr skerrit spoke of a plan to overthrow the government by storming the financial center where the office of the prime minister is if this is so and that was the plan then he should fire mr blackmore and chief daniel carbon for allowing the meeting to take place outside the financial centre knowly that there was a plot to overthrow the government of the day so i believe mr skerrit is lying and concocting stories to avoid the real issues facing dominica and the allegations against his government

A real leader would have advised his supporters not to come to the police station if the purpose is to cause a disturbance at that is if he cared for the safety of the people instead of telling people to come down there in an effort to confront the police doing their job.

Isn’t there a school with small children close to the area? I hope the people are not leaving their jobs to protest and expect to be paid. They are not protesting on my behalf that is for sure.

SO you re telling me that the Ministry of National Security is wrong for being proactive??? After last Tuesday you still expect the authorities to lay back and wait to see what happens next??? With the level of violence that erupted last week the police have every authority to be proactive. And mind you this is not coming from a Workers or Labor standpoint. Just somebody doing a bit of logical thinking because apparently the majority of persons seem to have lost the capability to do so. Police is police and they have a job to do. If it was the other way around it would have to be the same thing.

The police force is suppose to defend the law and be independent of party politics…
Dominica Police Force is not doing there job to remain unmoved by the party in power. THE officers themselves look confuse. Imagine on Sunday where they should allow the people to pray n remain focus they Arresting Thompson.
But they might have to lock up the whole of Dominica because the non violent protest against Skerritt is just getting started.
Very soon the whole world will know via social media about the corruption in Dominca n the passport drama.
Dominica Police Force stand firm, cause at the end what is Skerritt doin to boost the moral of the force. Poor those police….. Poor task force……

This is a perfect slogan to be printed on a T-Shirt – Jump Hi-Jump Lo; All I No – Skerro Must Go
But tell me, why the barricade on Bath Road. Isnt the Police station already protected by the big outdated grey gate. even the Police station is outdated and the conditions in there in antique, yet this is not spoken about.
Eugenia Charles got the authorities to arrest Patrick John, yet died before him. Seem like Skerro want the same thing done to Linton who is simply opposing like an Opposition Leader. The Cries of the People are real and as I read, even the pastors are not susceptible to understand it, but in fact are condoning the actions of the persons who are causing the unrest in Dominica.

The notion you are trying to create about the nationalists of Dominica as being violent and warlike is nonsense. Barricades to prevent traffic from flowing in front the police station. what purpose is this? you want to barricade the station make all them police that park in front the station move their ride and put the barricade along the perimeter of where the vehicles park and let traffic and pedestrians walk freely.

the image was created during and after the public meeting last Tuesday. Do we for one moment thought of what could have happen if the police had reacted to civilians attacking them? The wrong the government is alleged to be doing can in no way justify the reaction of the opposition; two wrongs can not make right, satan can not correct sin….

As far as I can see, it, all those politicians are the same, the opposition is just looking for the opportunity for them to get the share of the pie and they will do it at any cost, even to bring fear and turmoil in a place that was considered to be peaceful. What shame and disgrace!!

Who would believe that you overthrow a government by storming the prime Minister’s office.I guess only uneducated morons would. For the overthrow of a government the cooperation of the armed forces and or police would have to be secured and multiple sights would have to be involved including the main radio station, blocking of major points in the road network. This is another fairy tail from the delusional dictator Skerritt. Why doesn’t he just focus on telling the Dominican people what business he was conducting on our behalf in Greece

They were not trying to overthrow the government you fool. That would be a coup. What happened last tuesday was a peaceful protest demanding the resignation of the PM. What happened after the protest was finished was local thugs and vandals releasing their frustrations; many to antagonize the police for their own selfish reasons other to simply destroy property and loot. In both cases neither assist the cause of a peaceful protest. Sources whoever they are can say whatever they want, but how can you overthrow a government with old men and women ? that wasnt the intention of the UWP. Demanding someone’s resignation is not the same as overthrowing their position. Asking you to leave your job is not the same as me coming and taking your job. If Skerrit resigned the labor party would still rule i bleive because they had the most seats. This is what you people dont understand.
