The world should do away with money. There aught to be some other means to transact business without cash. Then the thieves would have to starve or find work.

I don’t know why they still call this place Dominica. It used to be Dominica many years ago; but no more. When you have incompetent people ruling a country these types of things are inevitable. Some may say, well, it happens everywhere. May be so – But when caught, unlike in Dominica, you pay harshly. There is no law on the books in Dominica to deter criminals. All we have is gifts and grants going to the king, queen, lords, friends and family and supporters of the ruling party. This is no more Dominica. If I should give it a name, DNO would not permit it. I’m glad that the gas station attendant is alive.

I wish the security guard a speedy and full recovery.

Arming security guards is a viscous circle. All that happens is that the thieves get bigger guns.

I find it hard to believe (and a little amusing) that you rob a gas station AND make your get away on foot! Obviously, these two are pretty dumb, so hopefully the police will catch them soon.

Then what? This is where the problem starts right… they’ll get let off with some kind of stupid apology to the judge or something. How about giving them a 10 year sentence clearing rock out of the rivers? No time off, no benefits – just plan old hard time.

Some criminals commit their crimes, when they are arrested, their lawyers come quickly to secure bail for them, even before the police completes their investigations, when they are back on the streets, they go and do the same crimes.
Its time that the authorities implement “Bondsman” like the USA and Europe . in order to set up bail 10% of the amount for bail have to paid to the treasury which is non refundable, so in order words some one wanting to bail some one would have to think hard, knowing that 10% of the bail money would be placed in the treasury. Then these criminals would be spending more time on remand, this would help to detour crimes . On another note, what was that gas station still opened at that time, wasn’t there a stipulated time for them to be closed?

Bring back capital punishment!!! If people wan to commit violent crime such as armed robbery, murder, attempted murder, rape assault with weapon etc… this will help to shift resources from that area into non violent crime… let them pay with their life!

You must be UWP or just plain lazy. You’re blaming the government for people criminal behavior? Every man is responsible for his actions… the government did not raise stupid ignorant criminal minded children you did. The only person that will ultimately suffer for their crime is them and their family… and that’s that!

Again I say that the community must step up to assist the police in such investigations. “If you see something, say something.” “Si ou wè yon bagay, di yon bagay.”

We have to take a stand as a community and fish out these thugs and have them pay for terrorizing our once peaceful country. We can sit here and blame the government all we want, but at the end of the day, “Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a Prime Minister and Ministers and Parl Reps and Mayors and Councilmen/women, but the voters of the country ( FDR). Government even in their best state, is a necessary evil, and in its worst state, an intolerable one; “We the People” must take a stand and fight against crime.

We must no longer view the police as the enemy of the state. Having said that, CRIME STOPPERS DOMINICA- 1-800 TIPS (8477). “Si ou wè yon bagay, di yon bagay.” Se tan nou prizon se kochon la et jete la kle…

Gas station robberies in Dominica are nothing new. I remember in the late 70s and 80s the gas station in Layou just before the bridge was robbed several times and the attendant who worked there was severely injured. Thieves pick easy targets. Owners need to invest in CCTVs and armor-plated glass. Main doors should remain secured after 6pm and customers should be able to pay through a small secure opening, thereby eliminating any contact with the attendant. Illumination is key also, especially at nights. I hope the security officer makes a full recovery.

time we start to arm security officers. we give dem flashlights like is crab they goin to hunt, if the thieves know that the security guards are armed they will think twice before attempting dem stunts der, and business owners please invest in some security cameras, cctv alarms panic buttons and a 12 gauge short gun

The increase in theft is not surprising considering the devistation by Erika. Theft was already an issue on this island and the police seem to do little about it. I don’t know about God’s intervention in the whole thing though.

I\’d like to hear from the head of the Police Force as well as the Minister of Security as to the plans to curb these incidents of crime. This robbery has the same modus operandi as the one at Icho a few monhs ago. A blind man can see that a trend is in place. If the authorities continue to sit and ignore these trends, the Nature Isle will no longer be the same.

Sad. Real sad. Am not condoning what was done. What do you expect in a country where men are side-lined, can find no jobs and continue to languish on the way side. Leaders don’t care, they are all about themselves, they continue to perpetrate hand-outs to keep the poor people poor. Lord help Dominica by getting this wicked government out of office and free our country. God in Heaven we are on our knees begging you. Help us please so we can help change the lives of our young men, that we can create an avenue for them to work and provide for themselves. I pray the security guard will be ok

Sign of things to come. I am hearing about the rise in crime and its scary. I hope the Guard is ok. It’s hard to shout crime doesnt pay with conviction when there is a level of white collar criminalty running rampant through DA which goes unchallenged decades after decades.

Dominica is a dishonest religious society where most profess to be saints but call others sinners. Let’s hope a shift in consciousness prevails and post Erika finally leads to a new positive dawn.

Incidents like this are definitely major concern for any country in this world. But you know what sickens me? The wicked duminicans or worst the Die as poorers that after alllll their years out there playing heavy and most North American suddenly remember where they are from and want to now play more Dominican than us that have been here all along or even if we were out there we kept in touch with home. They talking nonsense about things they have absolutely no idea of. Those of us that know better know these things happened wayyyyy more frequently in Dominica in the 90’s and even worst the 80’s. So don’t come with your fake self talking about they going to happen more frequently and secure your homes too. Unless you are the ones going to commit the crimes shut up. Fake duminicans like you all are the ones crippling the country

  33. The Real Facts
    October 27, 2015

Thou shalt not steal, injure or kill anyone.
Thieves are so bold and are desperate for money that they will do anything. Imagine injuring or even killing your own brother. You are dangerous and have hard hearts.
God has noticed you. What goes around comes around and two-fold. One day you will pay for this and as you age, if you live that long. Wicked people do not age gracefully and healthily.
You must help the police catch those thieves. They are worst than thieves for they injured a security guard. Those who observe them with an exorbitant sum of money should report it to the police. If you do not, you are aiding and abetting them. This is a crime.
If they go to a store to purchase expensive items and they are not employed, they should be reported to the police. Do so incognito.
I hope they are caught soon.
I also hope the security guard is not badly hurt and will soon recover.
