A wedding reception for a couple in Loubiere was turned into a nightmare on Saturday evening when the event was attacked by a group of cutlass-wielding and stone-throwing young people at the Loubiere Resource Center.

The origin of the fracas is unknown but according to reports, it took place between a group of men at the reception and a group of young men, who according to witnesses, are from Loubiere.

Eyewitnesses told DNO that the two groups began hurling stones and bottles at each other. The men at the reception then retreated to the Resource Center and locked themselves inside.

However, the other group, reportedly from Loubiere and led by a young man wielding a cutlass, went to the center and began breaking down the door. A young woman was also part of the group, eyewitnesses said.

The group eventually broke through the door and one of the men inside the Resource Center was attacked. DNO was told that he was hit by a stone on the head.

The attacking group fled the scene. However, numerous persons who witnessed the incident told DNO that they know their identity since they are well known in the Loubiere area.

The couple at the wedding reception was left in tears at the unexpected turn of events.

The police and the ambulance service eventually arrived on the scene and the injured man was taken away.

DNO is unsure of the extent of his injuries.

Dramatic video below shows the moment the Resource Center was attacked.

They playing bad. Whatever the cause of the altercation, they had no right to disrupt the couple’s reception. Everyone that is picked up should be whipped for nine days, and they would understand that our society will not accept such behaviour.

  4. October 31, 2016

This behavior is shameful and criminal wherever it takes place.

This at a wedding reception is an insult against the couple, their parents, the official who performed the ceremony, and the church if the service was done by a member of the clergy. It is an assault against the ordinance of Holy Matrimony which is an assault against God Himself.

As a clergy person with high regard for marriage this deeply troubles me. Every pastor and priest in the Caribbean reading DNO feels the same.

I hope the police will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, and the judge will send a message that cannot be mistaken :!:

It might be wise to have security providing controlled entry at such occasions.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

I do not understand how this has turned political. Every parent has the responsibility for raising their children instead of allowing them to be raised by the television, internet and teachers. What we produce is what we get. In the United States–with all its “greenness”–there is crime–big crime too. There’s work for persons to do however everyone wants fast money instead of working hard and building something to be proud of. We as parents teach our children violence and then blame poverty for it. In Jamaica a young lady from a POOR family worked hard at her studies and became valedictorian. We need to STOP blaming poverty. We said there was no work here, Haitians came and working the farm lands we left–now they building houses and bringing down their families. The easiest thing to do is blame everyone but OURSELVES for the problems we create. The people we blaming working hard and earning a living! We go abroad and work 3-4 jobs just to make rent. Our mindset need to change…

I am from loubiere and in all my years growing up in the village, I’ve never seen so much hostility in the youth. These young boys and girl all come from good enough families but chose the easy life of drugs and road side living. I hope that they are dealt with in the strictest manner.

It is a shame that the village council is doing nothing to dissolve that road side meeting area by the public convenience. These guys sit there all day long …………………………..

It is just a damn shame what is happening to the once most peaceful and quiet communities in Dominica.

    Shame shame shame…..

Where is skerrit? When we need leadership he always hiding, but if it was election time he would be in Loubiere day and night, if it was Rosie Douglas he would be talking to these young people. It is crying shame to see the plight of young men in Dominica, this Govt is sweeping the problems under the carpet, skerrit need to get involved and bring hope to this young people instead of taking pictures if the elder in his yes we vote program.

I could not agree more I think poverty is our biggest battle to fight with serious brain drain the country is facing less consumption and circulation of monies who have the wealth have the wealth the rest of the country is suffering and that can be seen through out the two towns Roseau and Portsmouth .

Buisness are closing down and those who are trying to stay a float are faced with triumphs and tribulations .

Not a good sign our govt can and should FDIC this as soon as possible by providing funding to corporate citizens so they can in turn provide employment .

These kids also need to get of drugs and get themselves into employment or eductae them selves to be self employed in some field or another .

One of the young men got invited inside for a drink
A verbal exchange broke out between the injured guy, (who is from Castle Bruce or K. territory), and the young guy.
the young guy called him a phaggit.(gay)
the injured guy slapped the young guy.
the young guy went for re enforcement.
    the rest is hidtory

It would not be surprising to see certain kinds of people involved in this type of violence who are known for having a shot fuse when it comes to anger management.

However, we ought not say words that hurt and are apt to cause a blow up. To call somebody a ”faggot”
is inappropriate. There are better ways to restore tranquility to a situation that appears to be getting out of control. At least you can avoid making it worse.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

they aint getting enough time in the prison plus our tax money feeding them…let them work hard to eat..plant their own food. they are too relaxed and when they come out of prison in less than no time is to harm the same people tax money they get fat on…..the police them dont patrol the island regularly either .. no police presence…you call them while a crime happening or about to happen and they never come till two days later. i aint saying they aint doing their jobs but they aint doing it good at all. its like people here make their own laws and do what they want and still get away with it in the end. thats why most people take the law in their own hands which is not good. the police force need to step it up they start patrol and two weeks later you aint seeing them. the parents need to be stricter with there kids too and the court seems to be just a waste of time, a set of paper and pens and court dates that take years eating people money and wasting jurors time.

In Dominica? This is shocking. I never thought this would occur in Dominica and at a wedding reception. This country is a free, peaceful and civilized one. What is occurring that such a happy occasion as a wedding reception would end like that?
Put it down to godless people. The enemy of God and of our souls has permeated and is dominating their hearts. Such evil actions do not go unpunished; not in this life and the next, in eternity. If they continue in that ungodly spirit, they will end up with him forever.
I hope the injured man heals in time. May God assist him.

At a wedding reception? The cutlass wielding people are scandalous and wicked. My thought is they may be angry they were not invited to the wedding. It could also be a rejected suitor.
They are uncivilized people who care not about others. These are they, non caring, disrespectful people who put Dominica to shame.
People have a mind of their own. For their personal reasons they decide to do harm to others. It has nothing to do with politics and the government.
From what I have been reading, Loubiere or a certain area of Loubiere has become lawless. This, of course, has to do with the type of people who reside there. They give the good, law-abiding Loubiere people a bad name.
Such people should not be out in the public arena. I hope they are caught soon. Bail should not be granted. They have forfeited their right to freedom. Once caught, keep them incarcerated.
The police must give special attention to that area and patrol it day and night.

You think like white people when you think that Dominica was put to shame because of the action of a handful of people. You see once a black person dies something idiotic they blame the black race, when it’s a white person, they reply that “I don’t know that jackass,he does not represent me”. Similarly one bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch.

You want to enter people wedding reception like it’s a free for all, when you get stopped you become so irate you gather your crew, move in with cutlass and terrorize people. This has nothing to do with government, what about personal responsibility? What about their upbringing? This is direct reflection on the animalistic and self entitlement behaviour some of these vagabonds run with. The woman with them was even more desperate what a disgraceful young woman, and YES I am the one who gave the police your name, so when you and yours are ready challenge me for me to put you out of your misery. These hooligans had an otherwise happy event turned into tears and blood, all because they wanted food and alcohol. STOP CRASHING PEOPLE PRIVATE FUNCTIONS, HAVE SOME CLASS. Traumatizing even old people and children out of pure greed. They must be charged, made to pay for the damage to the door and windows and I have told my friends the couple sue them for disruspting their event.

Many cases have everything to do with the homes they were raised in.

      Single mothers.
Boyfriends coming and going at all hours.
      No father in the home.
      Parents quarreling.
      Husbands physically abusing their wives.
Child abuse: verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual.
      Alcohol or drug abuse.
No family devotions. (Reading from the Bible and praying with the family.)
      No Sunday School attendance.
No meaningful contact with the church. To raise a child without God is a form of child abuse :!:

The problem is not any one of these things alone. It is the poisonous brew of a combination of these things that produces angry young people with no sense of right or wrong, bent on destruction, and hell bound.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. (Pastoral Counselor Certificate).

        Brain drain indeed!

This kind of behavior is discouraging to the fine young people who are getting an education and would be a great asset to the nation. This is not the kind of place they will want to live in and raise their children. Too many are moving away.

We wonder what role if any drugs played in this insane blow up. What we do know is that youth involved in violent actions have been found to be under influence of alcohol and -or- marijuana.

This has nothing to do with leadership. THis is what they see at HOME everyday. This is what happens when we allow other people and things to raise our children. We need to stop blaming POVERTY AND LEADERSHIP . I did not come from money and i did not turn out like this. Many people came from poor families and have excelled to the max. We all have a will and a responsibility to make decisions that either make or break us. So when young people who come from broken homes make poor decisions why do we blame leadership and poverty..When mother and father isnt present, father didnt turn back to raise his children, mother so stressed out of being a single parent that she allow her children to do what they want, women finding love in men who just giving them children and never turn back, violence in homes, WHAT DO WE EXPECT? there is such a thing called RESPONSIBILITY that no amount of LAW, LEADERSHIP or MONEY can solve.

      • October 31, 2016

        Unknown:

I am inclined to agree with you.

People can be poor. But if they love their children and do the best they can for them with what they have it will not go unrewarded. Children will take note. They will have a good reason to listen to godly instructions from Mom and Dad, and grow up in the right way.

I have just two thoughts to share.

It might be a good thing if first time parents were provided with a free short course in parenting before the first child arrives possibly taught by a social worker and possibly including a senior nurse who is a parent and can spare a little time.

Many of our churches could contribute more. Some pastors are trained counselors. They could include Biblical and practical advice in their sermons on marriage and ”training up a child in the way he (or she) should go.” This can be done in a helpful way from time to time without being overbearing.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

  18. October 30, 2016

There is a driving force behind all activities good or bad; the question remains unanswered, which is, who or what is driving these young men and women into these kinds of gruesome activities; having no respect for the lives of others around them?

And why are people so foolishly blaming the Government for the bad conducts of those young people–don’t they have parents or guardians of their own? Are those parents and guardians not the first to be responsible?

    • Dominican Passports
      October 31, 2016

The parents look after the kids, but the government technically looks after the parents, in providing jobs, opportunities and a prosperous nation for them. Without these things they can’t be expected to raise children properly.

    • November 2, 2016

Without a driving force nothing good OR bad happens.

This driving force is something called MOTIVATION.

The driving force to do something bad could be jealousy, lust, greed, anger, revenge, hate, covetousness,
or anything else that erupts from our fallen depraved human nature that renders us capable of sin.

The driving force to do good manifests in different positive ways; self preservation, the desire to help others, the wish for a respectable family, wanting to have a good community, etc.

It all stems from our values. What are the things that are important to us in life :?: These are the things that motivate us and make us what we are.

This will be determined by the place the Word of God has in our lives. If we are believers in Jesus Christ HE is going to be central in our thinking, our conversation, and our actions. As we read the Holy Scriptures God will be speaking to us from their sacred pages, and the Holy Spirit will guide our lives.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald…

    • November 2, 2016

The driving force is what motivates us. Yes, it can be good or bad depending on our thought life. ”As a man thinks in his heart so is he.” (Solomon)

Pastors have a responsibility to influence the lives of people from week to week. The Sunday worship service is a God given opportunity for them to remind us of the things that should be important in our lives by their sermons. and shape our values. Motivation is the outworking of our values. This determines the kind of people we are. In return this makes the country what it is.

I’m sure by now you are realizing what we really need (in my country Canada as well as in yours) is a spiritual revival in our churches beginning in the pulpits :!:

The answer is not a new P.M. or a different political party. The answer is a heaven sent revival in our churches that will flow out into our communities and renew our values in ways that transform our lives.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. 8)

In many cases the sentences are far too light.

The people want to see sentences that send out the message that this kind of behaviour will NOT be tolerated. The other kind of punishment has not worked. When something is not working you stop doing it.

Besides when wrong doing is not properly punished people who are prone to destructive behavior will continue because some of these are sick individuals. The serious of these actions are prone to escalate
and the results will get worse until we have a homicide.

Not only this but a lack of suitable enforcement and sentencing is an invitation to vigilante justice. There are some criminal activities people will tolerate only so long before they open their windows, lean out, and shout ”I am mad as #@!! and I’m not taking it any more!”

We need to fix the conditions which create such callous disregard for human decency. If not we will be wasting our scarce resources building prisons and the assoc high costs of incarceration.

Loubiere has been given many signs as to what the village may come too if action is not taken.
These things can not be taken lightly this is a public building and people have no prblem in going this far. So that means your home would be even worse. These groups should be used as an example.
We have seen that the violence in the village is increasing.

The DA gov’t needs to go back to the years when, if you committed an offense as heinous as this you would be publicly FLOGED. Jailing them will not help cuz you still have to feed them, charging them will not help either cuz they will either steal or their parents will pay, so If they are caught you give them three (3) lashes daily on their rear end for one week, and if they are repeated offenders you add one week for every offense. And let’s see if they will continue with this craziness.

Alas. I can imagine the pain and hurt the married couple suffered. A wedding is suppose to be great memories. Not nightmares.
