Computers like this one was stolen during the burglary

The facility of the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD Inc.) was broken into some time last week and equipment valued at over $20,000 stolen.

When staff reported for work on Friday July 22, 2011, they discovered the burglary and reported the matter to the Police.

I LIKE THAT :) ALL OF YOU MAKE INTERESTING POINTS, BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT IS ANY COMPENSATION GOING TO BE MADE TO THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE EQUIPMENT THAT THEY NEED SO DESPERATELY TO CONTINUE EDUCATING PEOPLE, PEOPLE WITH AND WITHOUT DISSABILITIES??.

THIS INCLUDES THE IGNORANT WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT DISSABILITY UNTIL IT HAPPENDS TO THEM, ALSO THE PEOPLE IN HIGH PLACES WHO SIT ON THEIR HIGH HORSE KNOWING THIS HAS HAPPENED AND INSTEAD OF ASSISTING RIGHT AWAY, THEY JUST MAKE NOTHING OF IT… BUT ALOT OF THEIR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS ETC… HAVE DISSABILITIES ONE WAY OR ANOTHER WEATHER; READING, LEARNING, WALKING, WRITING, SPEAKING, SEEING, HEARING, INCLUDING THINKING, ETC EVEN NORMAL PEOPLE HAVE THINKING DISSABILITY. SO IF YOU ALL INTEND TO STAY HERE AND TRY TO LOOK SMART BY GIVING ALL THESE FANCY BLA BLA BLA… COMMENTS TRY GOING TO HAVE A LOOK AT THE (DOMINICA ASSOCIATION OF PERSONS LIVING WITH DISSABILITIES) DAPD… GIVE A CONTRIBUTION BECAUSE SOONER OR LATER (YOU!!) WILL, NOT MAY BE, YOU WILL ACCQUIRE A DISSABILITY AS TIME PASSES, AND THE SAME (YOU) WILL WANT AND NEED THE TYPE OF ASSISTANCE THE DAPD OFFERS TO YOU MOSTLY FREE OF CHARGE! WEATHER MUSLIM, CHRISTIAN, HINDU, BUDDIST, RASTA, OCULTIST… ETC, ALL HUMAN BEINGS. NOW MAKE A START DONATE TO YOUR FUTURE. REMEMBER YOU COULD BE DISABLED JUST BY GOING ON A BUS ONE DAY OR BY WAKING UP… ANYWAY I TALK TOO MUCH. BART SIMPSON SIGNING OUT….

      Dear Bart Simpson.

Why dont you ask DNO if you could make an appeal on behalf of the DAPD.

I am sure that there are some out there who would give with a free heart.

My husband and I would certainly give what we can to such a worthwhile establishment, not just monetary, but also time.

Only Islam right now can reduce these crimes significantly. We would cut the hand of the thief…this is a just penalty.

Christianity is all talks, preach, pure foolishness! Time for Dominicans to throw away that white man slavery religion. This is not the way of the messiah peace be upon him.

In fact, Dominicans love all the evil that is going on. THEY WANT IT! If they didn’t they would take a strong stand, a strong protest against Skerrit, force him and the police force to enforce law and order. Dominicans are too divided politically. Foolish set of people.

I strongly agree with Pierre Charles, Dominicans wear their ignorance as a badge of honor. Ignorant fools!

After you’ve removed their hand for stealing on a single occasion could you please elaborate as to what we will do with all these ‘handless’ people? Have them live off the government or be a burden to their families for the rest of their life? Does this ‘absolute morality’ Perfect if you wish take into account the multitude of different situation or circumstances under which one may steal, the value of the item they steal, and how it’s impact the victims. Does it also take into consideration – however extremely small the chances may be of there being an inaccurate verdict, later discovered? Do you intend to replace the hand of someone who was perhaps once a musician or builder. Think upon this and ask yourself who is truly being ignorant.

What a bloody Muppet you are for making such a ridiculous comment! So when you cut off their hand how are they going to add to better society? And you so damn ass you fail to realise that the computers they stole were from DAPD – an organisation that trying to help disabled people! If you so don’t like DA why you don’t just do 1 and go Afghanistan or Iraq or just go and hide in a bloody cave like your leader Bin Laden, oh shit I forget he at the bottom of the ocean/sea somewhere. BTW, is fools like you who believe that your religion is right and others not, time will tell you smelly person (remember Muslims don’t wear deodorant) & I bet you not even eating Halal meat! Contempt is the first thing I feel for the thieve(s).

Someone must have been offered a computer on the cheap, as I cant see the thieve(s) keeping all 5. So if we are truly appaled by this, then if you were offered one tell the police, or leave it at the DAPD’s door. To keep it makes you just as guilty.

i dont think a paro would do that only if some one pay him to do it. Some of these lazi young men have no hearst just want to smell sweel and live on others. But it is partly our fault when is something to develope self or education thinks of how many sponsors but if is a sewo the flyer have sponors all over. so dem boys want money to sewo and doh want to work for it or we have not put the tools in their hands but we out the weapon.

What a disgrace! Stealing from the DAPD’s office. You, thief, you should be ashamed of yourself. Where is your heart? You do not have a heart. May you be caught. RETURN THE STOLEN ARTICLES AT ONCE!
Thou shalt not steal and Thou shalt not covet Thy neighbor’s goods.
You should never steal the property of others. It is even worst when you steal from a non-profit organization and for the disabled at that.
I hope you never sleep well at night or during the day.
I pray that God, the Holy Spirit will convict you and make you feel ashamed and restless that you will have a remorseful heart and return the articles. Otherwise…see what your future will be like.

    • July 29, 2011

I am hoping for your own sake that it’s because of pure ignorance that you’re making this statement. Please do some research as to what the word “disabled” means, and how broad that term is.

If that does not help you correct your thought process, and you are what modern day Dominica has to offer in lieu of intelligence….then we are doomed.

    • Truth,Love,Peace
      July 29, 2011

      @ Realistic

I would not expect a human being to make such a statement and not in these times. You could be told that you are discriminating against them.
Where do you reside? In Dominica or in another island? Have you not traveled abroad? Do you not at least hear on TV, international news about the disabled? Some of them are highly intelligent and gifted and can put us, normal people, to shame. They make good use of their time. They still have brains. Their stories are many.
Today, they are called “physically challenged.” Likewise those who are mentally ill. They are called “mentally-challenged.” The words are now watered-down, no doubt, to make them feel good and important. After all, they are human beings.
They may be called disabled. Some of them can see and speak and probably walk a bit. They go swimming too.
There are various forms of handicapped.
There are also those who are blind who learn Braille, language for the blind and they can type and utilize the computer which is constructed specifically for them.
Some disabled people work. Those who are able are no longer shut-ins or called shut-ins; are not house-bound or forced to be. They are mobile. They are happier for it. Life is more meaningful for them.
In Toronto there is Wheel-Trans for those who are not able to walk well and far or to drive. In fact, if they have as much as a bad back or leg problem, they can register with Wheel-Trans and they are picked up right at their homes, let out where they are going to, even to church and Wheel-Trans returns for them and take them to their homes. The cost is not much. It is also subsidized by the government.
This was passed off as a joke. I recall reading that a blind person was leading a man through a dark corridor. The man who could see tripped. The blind person said, “I forgot that you can see.” Touche.
I know of a man who resides in the U.S. who plays an instrument with his toes. He has no hands. His toes are deformed. Speak of talent! He sings. He records his songs on tapes; today DVD and CD’s. He is a Catholic Christian. I heard him play and sing in Toronto at a Church during Lent. He is gifted.
There are times God gives them gifts that we who are normal do not have. They do excel more than us.
In bygone years those people were not regarded. Commencing some years ago, this has changed. The majority of buildings, if not all of them are wheel-chair accessible. They travel by air; they go to restaurants. They are to be admired.
Whenever I see one I thank God for my faculties. If it is possible to assist them in a store or elsewhere where I am present, I do so. My heart mellows for them just as when I see an elderly person especially those who are frail. They are to be respected, helped, if possible and loved. All God’s children as well. God tests us to see what our reaction will be when we encounter them.
I hope you have learned something. Some of them were born that way; some were not born handicapped. Some of them developed an illness as they grew up. Some others were maimed in an accident. Let us pray that God will continue to grant us our health and strength for a long time.
Dominica should at least make all buildings and churches wheel-chair accessible for there are some of them who are in wheel chairs but are not able to leave their homes due to this. I realize that it costs money to do so but this is something that the government should look into. After all I view Dominica as a progressive country and increasingly so.

I like your suggestion of the cameras. Bearing in mind that they are an organization that relies on charitable donations, maybe you, me and everyone who cares could make a contribution towards installing some security cameras around the building.

    • Truth,Love,Peace
      July 29, 2011

      @ Florida

I assume that it is a male person who stole the articles. How could he eat and sleep well after what he has done and to an office which assists which assists the handicapped? I am certain that he was aware of what type of organization he stole from.
Community work only? If caught, he should be imprisoned. If the articles are not found, he should pay for them.
He primarily needs the grace of God. Those who are “genuinely godly” do not steal. They are not a menace to society. On the contrary they lovingly help others. Here is another who should be rehabilitated.
