Burglary at Eezee Pharmacy

Half empty shelves after the burglary

The owner of a pharmacy in Roseau is counting his losses, following a burglary and theft at the Eezzee Pharmacy on Independence Street in Roseau.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident believed to have occurred in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Proprietor of the Eezzee Pharmacy, Israel Fontaine, says several items from the pharmaceutical store were stolen, including brand name perfumes.

He says he is shocked by the incident because of the location of the pharmacy.

“About 6:30 this morning I got a call from a strange number telling me that my place was vandalized,” he said.

“Within five minutes I got about three calls informing me of the same thing, and then while rushing to the pharmacy I got another call this time from the police telling me that they were on the premises of my business and that I should come down,” Israel told DNO.

Proprietor Israel Fontaine

“When I got there I met one of the doors wide open with the metal railing cut open and the padlocks cut open as well and the door burst and then a whole set of goods on the floor, plastic bags all over the place”.

According to Fontaine several items were stolen including brand name perfumes.

“On inspecting the place we noticed that a lot of perfumes were stolen especially a set of Frederic M French perfumes that we had very expensive perfumes none of them go for less them EC$150.00 and a whole set of other perfumes were gone,” he said.

“All our antiperspirants and deodorants were gone, sanitary napkins were gone, adult diapers were gone all the baby powders we had were gone Amens powder Mexsana in particular were gone, a lot of the local Heaven scent herbal soap quite a lot of items were stolen, all our shampoos and so on”. Fontaine told DNO.

There must be more than one who committed this theft. They probably did not sleep and planned it. They stole baby diapers and other baby items including perfume. They may have babies or one of them. Be on the lookout for those who have babies wherever they may reside in DA. If they try selling some of the items or all of them, do not purchase them. Otherwise, it will be aiding and abetting and purchasing stolen property. Those who do, if caught, they will be arrested and prosecuted. I hope the thieves will be caught soon. God is good!

Please we are living in a different World and there`s no respect for law and order and people`s property invest in security cameras and alarm systems at least it will serve to deter the would be thief. A brand new business selling expensive stuff. But no security measures in place to protect your business place. Now it`s your lost and the looser/s are having fun at your expense do not worry Carette sorry Carbon will catch them soon 99days for the thief one day for the police. My fellow Dominican if you see something say something for the crime you help to solve may well be yours.

Well, well, well! Anyone who frequents this place will know that those shelves have been empty for ever so long. If there was really robbed and you claim the items stoled were taken off the shelves, then it must have been from “an abstract” shelf. What about your office, sir? Did the burglar(s) go in there? Did they steal your computer(s), which is a target to theives these days? Was your point-of-sale tampered with? smh….. this story just doesn’t add up.

Always remember the person on is in front but your might be worst. And when your time comes, it might be that very same person who might be the only one there to help you. @ May

Perfumes sells for $500.00 in DA? For the original price, it is highway robbery. Who will purchase it? This is no joke I reside in Canada and I would not even purchase perfume for $30.00.
I stopped purchasing perfume ever since I heard on TV that urine was found in perfume. I suppose it is the cheaper ones as $30.00 or less  those from the third world countries. They also sell toothpaste. I heard about that too and will not purchase it from certain stores. I heard and read about those fake items.

      July 10, 2012

      @ speaking logic

There is a new system. I do not know if it is sold in DA. It is a small electronic, hand held gadget. From the outside, you point it at an installed electronic pad (I shall call it) and the door automatically opens. No padlocks or keys are used. Those were installed also for thieves. They would have to break the door to enter and even that is difficult to do.

Just asking, are our businessmen and women allergic to security cameras? As business people we are bound to protect our investments and cannot and should not depend on the police or security guards alone to protect or businesses.

Security Cameras is inexpensive US$500 for 8 cameras with night vision and can be viewed from your phone or other internet service. All business owners should instill the fear of God into the hearts of those thieves.

Get cameras and protect your business.

So many buildings in the US have all kind of top level security system and people still burglarize them! Every 5 minutes pick a state and county a person walks into a bank in the US and walks out with untold sums of money, very seldom are they caught. Just 2 weeks ago in NY a man walked into the Metropolitan Museum of Art NY and walked out with a priceless painting which was recovered all the way in the Paris airport, security their is like fort knox so what is your point again about being cheap? sometimes you people act as if nothing goes on elsewhere but Dominica. Cameras DO NOT DETER CRIMINALS, they only assist in the law enforcement hopefully getting clear enough images to build a case.

      • Justice and Truth
        July 10, 2012

        @ Perliss…

In Canada too. All sorts of locks do not keep them out. Recently, even alarms they disable. Thieves that they are. They even walk away with ATM machines. They also take the good ones out and put fake ones in. Thieves always find a way. As God looks on and took note, a punishment awaits them.

We now have an acting Police Commissioner. For the time his acting he should really have serious discussions with the Police Service Commission, the Permanent Secretary of National Security, the P.M. etc. to have police officers on duty, not only in the city but in the various communities – I just do not see the reason for community police, because since this came about there are many crimes in this small island of D.A. Police shoud be given incentives and in this way they’ll surely give their all in helping with the crimes in this beautiful gem of D.A.

This is ridiculous and I am rather upset about all of this. The Pharmacy is in the heart of town very close to the police headquarters. The police must patrol the streets at all hours, that’s what we are paying our taxes for, while we are asleep they suppose to be at work. I hope the new chief will make a remarkable difference in that regard. PUT POLICE OFFICERS ON THE ROAD ESPECIALLY AT NIGHTS. See what happen at the Muslim store thank God the Bandits were caught.
