Businessman granted $75,000 bail

courtA businessman was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared before a Roseau Magistrate on Friday on alleged inappropriate behavior involving a minor.

He is facing six charges under the Sexual Offences Act: three alleged counts of indecent assault and three alleged counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Due to the nature of the offense, the Sexual Offences Act prohibits the publication of the name of the accused.

The prosecution did not object to bail.

He is to surrender his passport to the police, not interfere with the virtual complainant, be of good behavior and report to police headquarters twice a week.

Trial date is set for June 6, 2016.

Aye we live in a freaking funny country, since people are saying because it happens other places it’s, because it’s been done before it’s ok, beacause they parents may have been bad parents its ok but the most ridiculous is that because a 15yr old may have had relations with grown men knowingly, men who could have been her father mind you, its ok. Thing is at 15 I’m sure all of us did some things we would never consider doing now. Remember no matter how adult a child acts that child is still just a child.

Its really sad the way things are going on in this country. Jah! . while we may be quick to want to chastise those involved, we have to ask our selves what’s really going on in our Dominican families? His does a 15 year old child feels so comfortable engangung in such activities with someone who can be not only her father but grand father. What morals are we instilling in our young kids? What is it they desire or lack that would cause them to go down these roads? Where are the role models? Who is praying for them? Who is guiding them? Its really really sad

Oh please let us not be hypocrites; Many of us are children from teenage pregnancies. Many of our teenagers are parents. If an older man were to get a teenager pregnant and marry her; would that be any different?

Internet at our fingertips make it look as if these three individuals are the only ones who have ever had this happen. I believe we should look at ourselves before we pass judgment and let the real courts do the job they are there to do.

We all have family and friends of both sexes and pray they never find themselves in similar situations; the same goes for the family and friends of those involved. We are shocked because maybe we do not view some people as human and sinners like the rest of us. This thing is much different than the usual sex offenders, these are sadly working girls in a sex business who seemed to know exactly what they were doing. I am shocked only because I was unware Dominica had that trade and apparently the clientele.

Judges 16: Samson and Deliah, We should refresh our memory of this biblical verses.

Before anyone of us living today was born people use women to destroy men.

We have to ask ourselves are those allegedly doing this hideous crimes and hideous they are if true are any less sinners than those who are making it possible for these crimes to be committed or could they be viewed as accomplices of said crimes.

Deliah was paid to get to know the weakness of Samson, Are there some in our society making it possible for our young women to have sex with older men so as to take them down and turn around and present themselves as holier than thou and upright citizens or are they really just pimping our children, hoping for a big payday, whatever that payday would be? Not in anyway to excuse anyone who would allegedly do what is reported to have allegedly been done?

ki sa protecting identity of child rapists and abusers?. Boy Dominica is the best. Isn’t there a public directory of child sexual abusers? Boy that country really backwards eh. I don’t care if the girl was is the middle of Roseau naked and offering it for free. Adults should not be enticed by children. This is sick and demonic. And we as a society need to start publicizely these monsters and shunning them.

Canada is a Sovereign country. When children are molested and the perpetrators are charged, I have heard through the Media, the names of the victims and the perpetrators are not mentioned for the sake of the children and family. This is police authority orders.
I guess in certain circumstances and after the verdict and sentence, only the names of the convicted are released. We have to be satisfied with this Law since we cannot change it. It sounds like a fair Law.

And significantly reprimand these children for engaging is such adult acts with such adult mannerism. If we do not send a proper message to all parties involved, then these predators will never stop, and these grown baby (girls), will never report such advances to their parents. All parties are liable and should be held responsible.

I said the same. Too many parents, especially mothers are lax. Some of the fathers are nowhere to be seen. These parents are in dire need of counseling and also on good parenting. Many children go astray due to bad parenting. I will point out, not only in Dominica but right where I reside in Canada.
Children are so lovable and innocent. They are in need of loving parents and proper nurturing. The various sad stories of children are many. They could reduce some adults to tears. This is why the Law is there to protect them to a certain degree when parents fail them.
I recall the godly words of Saint Pope John Paul II: “The family passes through the world. As the family goes, so does the world.” Sadly, we see some of that today.

  12. March 4, 2016

we really need to at all times to watch ourselves because if we do not have moral principles then it will be very easy to go down . it is very sad when our brethen fall in this manner. we have to be very careful not to defy God by continuing to do wrong things over and over again. i feel for the young child and her mother , they are victims. the perpetrators need to understand that they have done a wicked thing and turn to God and repent. righteousness exalt a nation but sin is a reproach to any people and if they truly repent then who are we to judge them and continue to cast stones at them ? but no matter what we do or who we are there are consequences for the wrong which we do, we could be escaping justice at the court but know that. justice does not always end in court. let us all strive to do right, live right and be right inside.

I hope this will be a deterrent for those who seek out and encourage minors in unlawful acts.
Parents must instruct their children that when they are propositioned into such activities to avoid those who do.
The Social Service Department and schools should be involved in educating them accordingly.

Ok so I am a mother of only girls 4 of whom are teenagers, when I hear of this mess? The law states that I should not call crazy tee’s name or Ian pinard’s name so I won’t but doesn’t the law also state that we should protect it’s citizens? Doesn’t it state that men should not have sex with minors? I am a mother and a single one at that and I do not care how high a minor raises her skirt for a grown ass man or if she opens her legs as wide as the ocean in front of him she is a MINOR. How in God’s name can we sit here and allow ourselves to be musseled while men hurt our kids? Since when does Dominicans wait for the ok to speak or call names or criticize or condemn? Any man or woman who has the balls to hurt children are not of God. Quoted from Voltaire: To learn who rules over you simple find out who you are not allowed to criticize.Another Quoted from Thomas Jefferson: If the law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it but is obligated to do so.

It’s very sad that happens all over the world but am happy that Dominica is doing something about adults having sex with children. In my days every Thing was swept under the carpet or the adult would pay their way out by giving the child parents money. I still feel the pain growing up in Dominica and being abused by adults. Parents please take time out to educate your kids from these predators. Wish when I was growing up my parents educate me.To does who make the law in Dominica please make it so hard that those who decide to abuse kids will think twice. Am praying for the kids all over the world. :(

The only things (people) worst than the abusers – are the people who MAKE EXCUSES for the abusers!

A minor, is minor…no she knows, no she wanted, no she was asking for it. MINOR is a minor!!!! NO is not her mother fault, no is not her nenen fault. It is the fault of the ABUSER. A minor could run around naked if she felt like it – it is the duty of the adult to ensure that she is aware of the consequences of her action; to tell her that what she is doing in wrong – to guide her, to inform her parents, to counsel her. It is not the Duty of an adult to take advantage of a minor!!

Or as young girls when you were going to school and a grown man trouble u and u smile and blush? And all the time these mothers know about all these things are happening and you people know it’s happening and say nothing about it. It’s happening in your villages and your communities every day and u turn a blind eye? Do you report it? Do you demand justice for the child? Well Well Well. Look story. What is wrong with these grown men in Dominica. Women in Dominica cannot get man and grown ass men running after school children. What is really going on here. 15 year old girl. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Don’t these men have daughters? How would you feel if a big hard back man running down your daughter. Where was the parental supervision. How is this school age girl getting time to go be with these big men.

I know is innocent until proven guilty but I believe is true self. Shame Shame Shame. I dont want to go to Mexico no more. I hope a big fat police man show up at their door door door and make them pay more than $500,000 dollars and jail their backside.

      March 5, 2016

The 15 year-old girl is old enough to have sense to defend herself and run away when she is affronted with this type of behavior of adult men. She should go home and inform her parent(s). She should not succumb to their demands and expectation.
We know, as the saying, men will be men and are easily tempted. Therefore, when this occurs, the female gender must immediately remove herself from such an atmosphere.
What could have caused her to remain there to subject herself to sexual advances and whatever else occurred later?
The mother herself should question her daughter about her activities and how she managed to find herself in this situation.
You know, Blaze, the whole thing is, in this case the perpetrators, although weak of spirit are always solely blamed. When they face the Court, we hope they come out clean and give an account of what honestly occurred. You never know, it could acquit them. Some of those teenage girls are not easy.

Is a 15 year-old still a baby? She is old enough to have a baby. Have you not seen them on the streets? She is no baby. She probably needs discipline and to be taught morality.
A friend who recently returned from Dominica was shocked to see how many young girls have babies and they appear to be proud of them. The same occurrs in Canada.
The governments of this country do not put their mouths in it except, according to the Law, to charge rapists and those who abuse them.
They will teach about sex and mas………. (you know what I mean I hope), same sex so-called marriage and it is OK to be gay. This is what those educators approved of and teach in their schools with the Premiere, a lesbian for this Province, at the helm of it who instituted it. It is a scandal.
I have stated, when these authorities die they will have much to answer to God for, even right on earth as they age. I doubt God will forgive them for tarnishing the minds of the little ones.

Some people have their views about sex education. Some others are dead set against it and not to be taught in the schools.
Schools are places of learning to one day graduate and obtain a good paying legal job for their livelihood. Leave sex out of it!
For God’s sake and that of the children, allow the learning process of godliness, also disciple, love and respect. This is what I would teach in the schools aside from maths, geography, history, languages and the likes.
Governments have no right to teach sex education to children and to those little ones in school. It is the wrong teaching. This is a teaching for responsible parents to teach. Whatever they teach should be according to the child’s age. Otherwise, the children will be open to sex and experiment of same.
There is a time and place for everything. Let the children be children. Nurture them and protect them while they are still young, gullible and vulnerable.

I think when Dominica became INDEPENDENT of Britain she should write her own LAWS, and not continue adopting BRITAIN’S LAWS.

I agree with Kenisha, the ONLY NAME that should be withheld is that of the MINOR. There is NO DIFFERENCE in LAW pertaining to RAPE, MOLESTATION, INCEST, or SEXUAL ABUSE.

In Dominica, after the person is charged his or her name can be released. For whatever reason our media seem afraid to mention names.

    75 grand alone?

How much bail is requested when they get couple bags of ganga?

    smh…

    • Face the Facts
      March 4, 2016

Did you consider, if they are not caught and the ganja is not confiscated, the worth of it on the streets? The amount and worth are the reasons why the bail is high.
When they are caught, the illegal drug is valued. Based on that, this will also determine the amount of bail.

We need better. We expect better. Let them know. All the men and women who portray themselves as leaders in our society, whether as politicians, businessmen, clergymen, teachers, principals, police officers – we, the Dominican people, expect better. No distraction, no diversion, no name calling and maypwee.

We expect better. If you cannot provide strong, moral, statemanship, step aside.

Yes you are missing something because u not reading the damn article.

Charged does not mean convicted. Charged means they feel there is a case to be made. Conviction happens after the gavel comes down and you are found guilty.

There should be no bail for such crime. We should go straight into trial. If the man is a businessman and maybe close to politicians with money, we cannot under estimate the power of money and what it can do. It is hard for people with money or poor, to resist a large of money in exchange for hush-hush. They should not be given any opportunity to go out and pay anyone.
