A businessman was shot and an undetermined amount of cash was stolen from a restaurant located in the Checkhall area, according to the police.

Police PRO, ASP Claude Weekes said Damien Shillingford, owner of Icho’s Bar and Grill, was shot in the groin area at around 1:30 am on Saturday by masked men.

The men then made good their escape with the night’s earning.

According to Weekes, Shillingford was in the process of closing down the establishment when the men pounced, firing a round of ammunition as they approached.

Shillingford got shot in the process.

After grabbing the money, the men escaped in a vehicle.

Shillingford was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital but has since been discharged, Weekes stated.

He said investigations are continuing.

Icho’s Bar and Grill is located next to Warehouse in Checkhall, Massacre and is close to the Canefield Airport.

You know, this just can’t be right. These guys must have sat all night watching that man work hard until the wee hours of the morning to try to make a living for himself and then they don’t even just take the money and go away, they must shoot and try to maim or kill the man for his own hard earned money and people on this site are actually looking to justify this crime by blaming someone?

Just go around Roseau and around the country and ask how many people are frustrated and tired of trying to get Dominicans to do a job for them and just hear the tales of woe even after they may have paid for the job.

For goodness sake, everyone cannot work in an office but there are other jobs to be done and if people really want to work they will find honest work to do, but it is easier to watch a man sweat and then take what he has, because “he has”!

Can you people on this site stop encouraging and excusing this kind of travesty?

For all you patriots on here talking about more employment, less crime, are you insinuating that every unemployed person should go commit aggravated robbery? Guns are not cheap, I might add. A very idiotic statement in my opinion. The people who are truly seeking employment do not go and rob hard working citizens. These punks are criminals who should and will be dealt with accordingly. As citizens of a law abiding nation, regardless of political affiliations, we should never condone these malicious acts on our fellow citizens by blaming the government.

I know that you are all educated individuals, but alas, let us not stoop that low. If we keep making excuses for these thugs, sooner or later it will hit closer to home. Why, Why, Why we will cry.

Thieves, you do not have a conscience nor a heart, as you stole from one who is doing his utmost to make a living and you grabbed his money from him.
Get a godly life and a decent job, lazy, wicked bastards! As you age and at your end, they will be unpleasant and unhappy ones with much suffering. What you sow you shall reap in time and soon enough. What goes around comes around two-fold. You will not escape God’s wrath.
Keep digging your graves bigger and deeper just as heaping burning coals on your heads.
Money comes and goes. The money you stole will soon be finished because you procured it by stealing. What will you do next? I hope the police catches you.
Business people must be alert to do their utmost to prevent these thieves from entering the premises and after hours. It is too bad you did not have an alarm which would have rang or even chimed, alerting you of when unauthorized people are approaching.

This is a major contributor to the slow pace of economic growth in Dominica. Why would anybody want to make investment in a small country where crime seem to be the punishment for taking the risk of employing others?
This has nothing to do with politics!! this is all about being a real conscious rational human being versus being an irrational animal..MAGWASA!!
Unless we learn to live peacefully with meaningful positive contributing lives in our country, Dominica will forever remain behind..this is ridiculous!! Shame on those thieves!!

People are desperate. Bad governance by a corrupt, greedy and incompetent regime. They grab everything while the majority are jobless, poor and hungry.
While all this is happening, the Salisbury people who want to work to earn a living are being deprived of feeder roads!!!!

Stop making excuses for these lazy, adult boys who prefer to rob a man of his hard earned cash than find a way to make their own. If you start blaming you will never stop; the economy, the government, the church, the fathers…? These guys are just plain lazy. Even in the poorest countries men find a way.

Impeding on a man’s ability to provide for himself and his family is wrong……I hope they find these criminals and let them pay for their selfish act….

  11. August 17, 2015

All these criminal actions are due to the lack of jobs and poor economic leadership in the country.

dominican, there is a direct correlation between the state of any economy and the level of crime. read any sociology book and you will learn that. So YES the increase in crime has everything to do with governance, and note i said GOVERNANCE.
