Budding calypsonian, Chris “Chris B” Sylvester, of St Joseph has pleaded not guilty to four out of six charges filed against him in relation to a shooting incident in St. Joseph.

He appeared in court on Friday after it was alleged that he was involved in the incident which occurred in the community on July 8th.

Sylvester was charged with possession of a firearm, namely one .32 star Trademark Pistol, without a valid license, possession of a certain ammunition, namely one live round of .32 ammunition, without a valid license, possession a firearm with intent to endanger life and discharging five rounds of .32 ammunition in a public place, namely the St Joseph public road.

He pleaded not guilty to all four of these charges.

Sylvester was also charged with unlawfully and maliciously shooting Evalina Baptiste with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawfully and maliciously shooting Laken Charles with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was not allowed to enter a plea since both charges are indictable.

Magistrate Bernard Pacquette set bail of $60,000 after he refused a submission by Sylvester’s attorney, Joshua Francis, to set it at $15,000.

Sylvester has been remanded at the Stockfarm State Prison since he did not have any proper sureties for bail.

The Magistrate gave the defendant until Monday 14th July, to secure proper sureties

The trial is expected to begin on December 9, 2014 at the St Joseph Magistrate Court.

The police say the incident occurred after an alleged argument over $2.

Chris B was named Stardom King of the Tent earlier this year.

Life is truly interesting. How many artists have cast a shadow on what will befall them in song? We can name a few: Bob Marley, Lord Maestro, John Lennon. Well Chubby sang and foretold his revenge in “Coco Sec.” But you get the point.

Chris B’s is a strange twist of fate. Wonder if his could have been avoided, if he had taken time to heed his own words?
Or is it a question of life imitating art. Whatever it is, we should all take warning. Life is indeed strange.

There is only one God. If you mean Our Almighty Father which Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us to call him, then call him by His Most Holy Name. This is the One and Only One who is can and is capable of assisting us to obtain eternal salvation. It is not by any other name.

Can sombody please tell me why the drug lord is offered bail. A single mother is still hospitalized. Her innocent children are to fend for themselves while the attempted murderar is looking for bailout. Do something about the lawless place. The nite club and drugs stores are still conducting business asusal. Is there a sane person to stop this blatantly disrespect for human life. There are 3 people over 100 years leaving in that area . They deserve to have a dignified life. Who do we have to bring in to stop the drug dealers and paros. Clean back street. Give usthe peace and tranquility our innocent children deserve. How many more are going to get stab and shot. No no nite club or disco should operate in such a closed environment. Please don’t make it a political issue.

My dear Dominicans lets all take a deep breathe and do a little thinking, while we all condemn this wreckless action by Chris let’s take a look outside the box we are all disappointed in the action of a this young promising calypsonian and we are equally sorry for the damage done to the innocent ppl, But the late grate Bob Marley once said, IF YOU LIVE IN A GLASS HOUSE DON’T THROW STONES, I have children like most of you and tomorrow it might just be one of us greeted with a bad news, so let’s think about this, I personally condemn his action but I feel for this young man I hope he learns a lesson from this bad judgement.

    July 12, 2014

The political parties that are inciting violence must answer for their actions. The reign of terror in St. Joseph by the opposite team must cease immediately. The shooting in Back Street was not a random act of violence. It was a lord in his turf taking care of business with no regard for human lives. The anti-government forces are challenging our democracy and society. Before the individual could be charged his Alcapoon father provided the party lawyer.
Prime Minister Skerrit, your have a moral obligation and commitment to fight the communal forces that are trying to undermine the fabric of our society. Go back street the people t are living through hell, this is the strong hold and regular hang out for the present senator of St. Joe.
A nation can only progress when the core of that society, including women, children and the elderly can go out without fear. If you ever talk about the 24/7 smoke shop that you encounter while in your home or walking the streets your risk retribution from the lords. Do not put a bandage over it fix it.
We need to sustain harmony by closing the so call disco that starts a 4 pm until 7am next day. The drug store operate without any fear from the law. Three people were shot almost wiped out. The single mother who seats in the market every week in order to feed her children, her life was almost ended. Please make the necessary changes that will restore law and order. The social media and politicians who incite violence should be held accountable. Stop this Lawlessness.

What other tragedy will it take for the people to take back our streets. Back street belongs to everyone, not just the drug dealers. We have sat by silently and fearfully and watch the drug lords and child molesters operate openly without impunity. Yes, I did say Child molesters. Your little girls cannot walk without they making advances at them. Parents have to accompany their children at all times, because the drug consumption and transition has become business as usual. No this isn’t the type of community we were raised inn,
Enough It is up to all of us to eradicate the old goats from causing more harm to a society that is already bleeding.
Are we going to sit by and see a few uneducated henchmen take over? it is for real.! Let us take the responsibility to educate and activate the young minds. This shooting was not a simple coincident, wake up, some of us fear the retribution, therefore, we have remain silent. We may have different political belief, but the community is bleeding and hurting. It is time somebody speak up! This is not the end, but we must have a beginning to have the end.
Take our streets Back. Take Back Street First. I don’t’ want to hear no political agenda. Everyone of them have more land than you could imagine, but the drug money is faster and sweeter

That was a single mother who took the bullets for her three children who were playing in her yard. Tomorrow his father will bail him out to finish what he started………………. He did not shoot for us fare?
