Candia Carette-George has been appointed to act as chief magistrate

Minister of Legal Affairs, Ian Douglas has, confirmed that Candia Carette-George has been appointed by the public service commission to act in the post of chief magistrate.

The position became vacant after its former holder, Evelina Baptiste, was elevated to the post of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) with effect from November 1, 2013.

“Candia Carette-George has been placed by the public service to hold the fort of Chief Magistrate for the time being. She is very competent and I am sure she will do a good job in that regard,” Douglas said.

He expressed confidence in the performance of the “magistracy”.

“The magistracy has been performing and performing very efficiently in the past… we have had lawyers from the private bar who have come in (like Michael Bruney) who has held district G for us for a long time doing well and ensure we manage the back log,” he said.

Douglas is of the view that the current shortage of magistrates “is not a serious problem right now.”

“We should have six magistrates and we are down by two… we are doing our best and managing the situation and will endeavor to fill the vacant slots in the shortest possible time,” he said. “The remuneration in the public service is always not big and never pays but that’s how it is always. Some of us just have to make the sacrifice and be a patriot,” Douglas stated.

Perhaps someone can explain why is it that every comment is rushing to congratulate the lady who has only been appointed to act in a post or is it that others know something I do not yet know.

Hello and good evening my people. Well I want to congratulate Ms George on her promotion to this very demanding and important position within our Criminal Justice System. All we asked is that you be honest to all of our citizens and it should not matter which community they come from or family name recognition they have. The laws of our country should be apply equally and be respected by all.

On another note; why can’t that minister say something of value? You mean that is the best a politician on the ruling government side has to say in the peak of election campaign? “The remuneration in the public service is always not big and never pays but that’s how it is always……”

Mr Douglas you are in the position to make a difference, so why not instead of wallowing in self and political pity. Shame on you man

Congratulation to you Mrs. Carrette George from the Evangelical Community, God is the one who sets up and not man therefore he will give you the grace and the wisdom to function in your new position. You have been faithful in little things therefore God has placed you in charge of bigger things and he will give you the strength and wisdom to perform

Sir, you must stop calling God’s name in your politics. While I am happy for the young lady, it is wrong for you as leader of the evangelical association and pastor of the Pentecostal church to put God’s name in that mess we have in Dominica. I wonder if God had anything to do with those Pentecostal churches that split, messed up and many members went astray under your watch. So stop your political game and repair the broken bridge between you and pastors. That’s what God is interested in and not your partisan politics.

Preacher, the sad thing about this God thingy you spoke about is, whereas Ossie Lewis who according to you all is not a born again Christian, would not compromise his conviction to support the cabal; With this Christian you said God put up, let us wait to see how much ungodly principles she will stand for. God stands for Righteousness, peace, love and justice. I sthat what we should expect from her and the greedy evangelical community which has damaged the reputation of many local pastors?

AA! So is true den, skerritt is a god. People get rewarded for singing how great thou art skerritt and you people saying is God’s blessings. It is time you hypocrites stop calling God’s name in vain.

Congratulations to you Mrs Candia Carrette George from the Evangelical Community. God is the one who sets up, we rejoice with you and pray that God will give you the grace and strength to shine in your field of work.

Those who are faithful in littlle things God will make them ruller in big things. the blessings of The Lord be with you all the way

      December 5, 2013

You all must stop calling God’s Holy name in vain, This is a corrupt system and God is not in that foolishness. She got promoted and that’s good for her. Her last name before marriage helped her tremendously since her dad was PC recently and served Skerrit’s interest faithfully. The so-called Evangelical community need to search themselves to see if their behaviors and conducts are in line with the bible or if they just crazy after money which is the root of all evil.

      • A perfect idiot
        December 5, 2013

Skerrit was made the winner of a very ungodly election and you were busy to tell the nation that is God that put him there. After 14 years when we look at his Nebuchanazar reign, one has to wonder what is the name of the god all you talking about. It sure not the bible god. Hope is not the money god!

Some of you take and mention the name of the Lord in vain and for everything which may have absolutely nothing to do with him. You are too assuming without ascertaining yourself and your words.
Do you not know? Matthew 5:45 – For he makes his sun to rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

What makes some people think that they are more favored by God than others?
I do not think some of you know the Bible, as you profess to know more about it than others. Some misinterpret it to suit their ideology and mentality. Others do not comprehend it which is why they make such statements.
Leave God out of your foolishness and earthly matters which He did not appoint in the true sense of the word.
If you have anything to say on this matter, simply say, “Thank God” and for small mercies.

When the Government didn’t renew Mr Ossie Lewis’s contract, I was surprised but not expecting something like this to come.

Mr Lewis may at the end be happy that his contract was not renewed because he would not want to part of the mess. There is no way she could be a better and more suitable candidacy for the position of Chief Magistrate ahead of Mr Lewis.

There is going to be more confusion and chaos coming to the magistracy than it is presently experiencing.

I though they (the Government) said that Behanzin was a lay magistrate because he didn’t possess a Legal Education Certificate (LEC). So what about the Ag. Chief Magistrate, does she possess a LEC? What is good the goose is also good for the gander?

Isn’t she the same magistrate who allegedly wanted to dismiss the case against Lincoln Corbette, without the knowledge and presence of the DPP’s Office?

Change is a must, not an option and it is coming sooner that some of you think.

    • Jejep
      December 5, 2013

SILLY YOU. The Magistrate had the matter stricken off the courts’ list and in so doing granted the DPP leave to return to court with the matter. This was done in a fairness. Every adjournment it was done at the request of the prosecution even while the defense was always represent. In other jurisdictions, the matter would have been dismissed. Some of us are expects without being aware of anything at all.

I endorse what you stated. I thought of Ossie Lewis and considered why not he for this position, that he would be a suitable candidate. They ensured that he is out of the way. I now have a different view of the government.

@ Really: Really? Haven’t you heard before that contracts can be renewed too even if they were previously signed for even six months let alone one year? Does that require any thinking? Ossie Lewis having a previous contract for a one year is irrelevant in considering a resign of the same for another year or more. What is relevant is his qualifications and competence.
