A 9mm pistol. Not the real one seized

A man from Canefield was fined $10,000 at the Magistrate Court in Roseau after an illegal gun and ammunition were found in premises which belong to him.

A 9-mm pistol and 50 rounds of 9-mm ammunition were discovered in the house which belongs to Philbert Francis Dupuis, according to police PRO, Acting Inspector, Pellam Jno Baptiste.

According to Jno Baptiste on Monday, November 21, the police, armed with search warrants went to two premises belonging to Dupuis, one at Jimmit and the other at 8 Street, Canefield.

The illegal gun and ammunition were found and seized in Canefield.

Dupuis was charged with possession of firearm and ammunition without valid licenses.

He was taken to court and charged the same day.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined.

He paid the fine immediately.

A man has illegal firearms and ammo for any of the following reasons.

To commit a crime like rob, or kill.

To sell to people who are not licensed to possess them otherwise they would be buying from a licensed dealer. These are customers who want guns to commit crimes. They will buy from unlicensed gun dealers to avoid the paper trail.

Those who have illegal guns on hand sometimes have them for their protection while they are involved in illegals activities. Looking back over past drug busts in Dominica I found it interesting how many drug dealers also had guns for sale.

It seems the two crimes – selling illegal drugs and selling illegal guns – are joined at the hip. They belong together! It looks to me that they are found together in major police raids about 40% of the time. Knowing the harm drugs are doing it is easy to understand that people who will sell drugs will sell guns with no qualms whatsoever.

I congratulate the police for their work.

    Sincerely, Rev…

Simple. Just pay your fine and keep it trucking. Simple. When you ready for your gun just get your license and go and collect it. I bet if he was imprisoned people here would start to watch him funny like he is a criminal, well that is if they not watching him so already. Dominicans funny like that. you would swear is they jesus have gave the power to judge others.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Good law abiding citizens should have all the rights to bear firearms to protect themselves and their property. To many criminals and felons have guns and no laws is preventing them from having them. Then good people are left at the mercies of these criminals. Arming all citizens would mean that Dominica would be able to protect itself from both domestic and foreign threat. People simply do not respect people property in this country and possession in this country. People working too hard in Dominica for them to be unable yo protect themselves and what they have. People can no longer depend on the government to guarantee their security.

All this nonsense about who know and don’t know and he is a hard working man makes no sense. We dominicans too like to push our hands in fire for people we know or care about. Bottom line, we have a problem with illegal firearms in the country and much has been said about it including the offer of amnesty to those who surrender it.

He did not have it to put in church offering plate on sunday morning so I say jail his behind and fine him $100,000.00. He had no darn good intention and in so doing violated the law. Allu too darn hypocrite.

    Always Assertive!

Why was he not given the same consideration and leniency as Bubbles, who was also found in possession of an illegal firearm,a 9mm Glock if I remember correctly. Does the application of justice in Dominica depend on who your friends are?

It happens in other countries to.

Sometimes its not who your friends are as much as what lodge you belong to.

But when men and women stand before God at the great white throne judgment Divine justice will prevail.
Each one will be judged according to the word of God which lives and abides forever. The “book of life”
will be opened. Only those who have trusted Christ and received HIM as their Savior – only those who have been “born again” – will be recorded there.

When the Apostle John was in exile on the Island of Patmos in about A.D. 96 he had a prophetical vision of that coming day. He wrote “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15)

Have you received Christ as your Savior by trusting his death on the cross to put your sins away? Have you been “born again”? If so your name is recorded there, on that page white and fair :!: If not you are still
      lost without Christ.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

I don’t understand your logic at all devine lady. So because a man is a hardworking business man the laws of the land should not apply to him? It is exactly because of this kind of warped reasoning that are in the mess we are in. Come again.

The man has been a hard working man from TIME. While some of us chose to go to school and spend large sums of money on education, he was hustling hard and making a way for himself. This isn’t one of them young boys on the block just wasting away. So don’t come here with that bulls as if every body with money MUST be involved in some bull scheme. Some of allu scandalous and still doe have allu ass too allu elbow. The same people that does bring down the criminals involved in more crime, but who will bring down the law makers? How much people we holding in high esteem and they involved in all kinds of crap. Know who allu judging and pointing fingers at. At the end of the day, life must go on. Still gonna get this money!

He should be fined and jailed; given a mandatory 5 year sentence. The current sentence does not fit the crime and times.
