Carrette says gov’t does not select police recruits

Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette

Acting Deputy Police Chief Cyril Carrette has said government has not been interfering in the process of recruiting police officers.

Carrette said all recruits meet certain requirements before they can begin training for a place in the Dominica Police Force.

“If the individual meets the requirements and so forth, the individual may find favor, but it’s not a  question of they just take people and send people down here to be trained,” Carrette said.

He noted there have been claims of government selecting individuals to be trained.

“It doesn’t happen at all,” he said.

Mr. carrette, please retire for gods sake and give mr. Weeks a chance. Go on a vacation, a cruise most probably. Remember sometime in November when you asked me to come into your office and i was interrogated by you, a female office along side the deputy. You made bad comments towards me, laughed at me and insulted me. Is this the way a man in this high position should behave when you’re supposed to protect the citizens under your constitution. Then you claimed to everyone that i was insane but the jokes on you now cause your the one whose aging and senile. I don’t despise you, i despise the things you do and the public is seeing the same thing i saw in you. An arrogant, uneducated, low standard fool.

We want Mr. weeks all the way!

I DEFINITELY THINK WE SHOULD REPLACE CARRETTE WITH MR.CLAUDE WEEKS. CARRETTE SEEMS TO BE MORE OR A RECRUIT THAN A COMMISSIONER. HE HAS NO MORALS. WHATS HIS HIGHEST LEVEL OF EDUCATION? I MEAN, YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE ALL SORTS OF HIGH QUALIFICATIONS BUT AT LEAST SOME KNOWLEDGE AND THIS MAN HAS NOTHING. ITS LIKE MAKING BREAD WITHOUT FLOUR. ITS TIME WE THROW THIS CHRISTIAN GENTLE FOOL+ OUT AND REPLACE HIM WITH OUR DEVOTED MR.CLAUDE WEEKS. LETS MAKE A DATE TO DEMONSTRATE.

Mr. Police Com. you need to be more honest. I worked with you.I must say you have changed. You need to focus more on the prevention of crimes. Some of the cops are just thre to pickup a pay check. The time has come to start evaluating your guys.See who is doing their jobs and see who is not doing their job.YOU need o know the good guys from the bad guys.Bring it back to the 80’s when guys were doing their jobs they were paid to do.You also need to consider giving quotas to cops who are not perfoming.

Mr Carrette if we have five political Parties on island, the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force presently as it stands, makes it seven…There is so much politics in the recruitment and even the rank and file of the force that the job that is being done by most of these guys is inept to the highest order..
I suspect after the mauling that you got from the public,a fleeting mention of emmanuel was made by you yesterday….Alas ! Alas ! Alas !

Carette everyone knows that the police chief is controlled by remote control from Skerrit’s office. Who is he fooling? –well only a fool fools his self.

The fact is that Skerrit is the Sherriff and you have to ask for permission and approval from him before you do or say anything dealing with law enforcement or the police force. It is sad when big men act like that. Please Mr. Carette deliver the policed force to a more competent leader –because you are no where close to being defined as one. You are a big joke and papyshow.

poor you mr. carette. you are obviously very unpopular with the public and i don’t think its because you are doing your job well. i am not a political person however, based on my assessment of your numerous speeches, i have to conclude that they are of very low standard.surely as the top cop, your use of language should be much stronger..

    January 26, 2011

Favouritism has always been a factor in the foolish force.I can still count the amount of officers selected from grandbay with my ten fingers. And i know for a fact those who have made it through knew someone or their parents ask someone to pull a string or two.Foolish force needs cleansing from top to bottom before we can say we have a police force. Most of these fools walk right past physcological evaluation if there is such a thing in recruitment in d/a.I must add there are some fine police officers dedicated to the job despite all,but very few.

Look and listen closely. I am willing to bet that the recent spike in public appearances made by the Acting Deputy Police Chief, while the PRO is been silenced is related to some more feathers in the deputy’s cap. He is obviously trying to boost his public image. Why now? Is a promotion in the works? Let’s look and listen.

I am not sure that Mr. Weeks is the best candidate for the job at this time. I think the police force should be run by someone who has studied in that field and has an advanced degree. Dominica’s crime is becoming more sophisticated and the same old boys club cannot continue to do the same thing they did thirty years ago. The police force needs to step things up several notches.

What about the deputy who went overseas and got his masters in running a police force? I think he is on vacation. When is he coming back? Has he been forgotten? I really hope he is not red, blue, green or whatever. I hope he is color blind. More importantly, I hope he is allowed to RUN the police force.

In as much as I believe that the police is controlled by the politicians –those in government let us not be hypocritical. The police recruiting process has always been influences by the party in power. I could go a head and name officers who did not meet the requirements and was still selected. That happened during Freedom Party and during the UWP. Let us not be fooled a policeman job is just another government job and government give jobs to their friends and supporters. During the Freedom party administration one recruit was selected and that guy could draw his name- when this guy wrote his name you would think that it was a 5 year old writing. I swear. The same happened during the Edison James administration.

I know for sure that we have never seen such blatant manipulation of the legal system and the law enforcement and so I do understand the pissing and mourning that is going on right now in Dominica. Carrtette has proven time and time again that he is incompetent and he keep putting his foot in his mouth.

    1. I strongly believe Mr. Claude Weeks should be the Commissioner of Police than Carrette. Mr. Weekes has more integrity, straightforwardness and I believe he can bring integrity back to the police force.

    2. Why is Mr. Carrette making so many public appearances? I thought Mr. Weekes is the P.R.O!

The public should make a strong call for Mr. Claude Weeks to be Commissioner of Police. This is my view. :-D

    January 26, 2011

A Skeritt-controlled police force is being created in Dominica. The force is highly politicised…….it is very blatant by the actions of the so-called law enforcement offfers. There is very selective recruitement indeed. Even individuals with the appropriate qualifications and who fits the job specifications are not accepted! We are creating a millitary within the police force.

Acting Commissioner of Police please do not be a puppet and be honest………..speak the truth!!!!

In my presence, Christmas 2009, I had to empty my barrel, contents looked at, just food stuff for my mother; yet still the person next to me, the cover was just taken off, procedural matter and not charged at all? Preference? Friendship? Their should be fairness, the next time i have a barrel to clear, i know just what to do…………. Friendship in business is bad; friends of customs employees always have a good time clearing their barrel, but the person that cannot afford really have a hard time getting money to pay and those that can afford to clear their barrels getting it for nothing.

What happen? Carette take Weeks’s job of Public Relations Officer? It looks like it! But guess what carette, the people respect Weeks more than they do you. They have more confidence in him than they have in you, so here you go again!! Think about that before you come and make another public statement.. GIVE US WEEKS! WE WANT WEEKS!!! WE LOVE WEEKS!

  29. Respect for Authority
    January 26, 2011

Things have gone so bad in Dominica that people no loger respect authority. The way people refer to the Prime Minister and the head of the Police is down right shameful. That is why our children behave they way they do, because some adults have no respect for authority.

Fellow Dominicans, please learn to disagree without being nasty in your comments to one another.

Saddam Hussein was the leader of his country! Hitler was the leader of his country, Ida Adam was, Papa Doc and Baby Doc and all the thugs to kept people in check were… Did they deserve respect, Respect is mutual, and when our parents taught us that we have to respect people in authority positions whether they DESERVED respect or not they taught us wrong! People have to EARN respect, no matter what position they are in… The reason why our children behave the way they do is because of people like you… They see what they people in authority do, they hear. And people like you get them real mad when you tell them they should respect those people… Those people in authority MUST respect themselves by doing the right thing, and respect the OFFICES they hold in order to ream that respect… This respect people by virtue of them hold an office is passé de mode and WRONG! This has helped create some terrible people in authority!

Respect, I respect this observation, though there is more to it than that. Suffice to say that there has been a departure by society at large from the basic courtesies that so undergird our culture in the past.

It would go a long way in keeping our society hinged if we remind and teach our our youth common courtesies like: I am sorry, thank you, excuse me, sir/miss/mister/madame, pastor, reverend, prime minister, parliamentary representative, etcetera, etcetera.

There is great benefit to keeping our cultural traditions, even as use of modern forms of communication technologies is relentless.
