Clement Labassaire gets 12 years in jail

court2A Vielle Case man, who was a facing a charge of murder but was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, was sentenced to twelve years in the slammer on Monday morning.

Clement Labassaire was accused of killing his grand uncle, Ambrose Leblanc, on February 16, 2011.

The charge of murder was dropped after a nine-person jury could not reach a unanimous decision on it.

The judge said  Labassaire has shown ‘no remorse’ in the matter and his sentence will run from February, 2011.

Reports are that Labasseiere inflicted a mortal blow to the head of 74-year-old Leblanc after a land dispute in Vielle Case.

Leblanc died three days later.

Labassiere said in court that he had thrown a plastic pipe at Leblanc because he(Leblanc) was destroying Labassiere’s crops.

AS I say, unless it happens to the lawyers and judges family, they will let these criminals go back to kill more people. They know when they go to jail, they don’t have to worry of no bills, and will soon be back, do more crimes and go back. They see that the court system is are revolving door, and they have no regard for life.

These criminals, have made up their mind. They have nothing to loose. The only people who looses, is the dead and their family left behind.
Dominica law system is becoming a joke. Too much law-less-ness. Their love for each other and human beings have waxed cold.

Behanzin had good intention to put him away, he was let out as part of the conspiracy against Behanzin, it is ironic the first death would come from Vielle case

Ignorance is a sin. Take some time and compare Dominica to the other Caribbean islands…we don’t have a lot of killings in Dominica. Stop calling killings on Dominica please. I believe the justice system sucks yes. But DA don’t have plenty killing!

And that’s exactly why they should be put away for a ver long time in other to maintain our low crime rate.Deterent is a hell of a tool.Behanzin had the right approach.Too many senseless killings. If a dog is a threat to others it’s usually tied up or caged until it’s rehabilitation. One’s Life ie a gift from God.Thou shall not ” kill”.

A fair start for the justice system…… It was time for them to take a stand too many lives are lost and no justice. Now that justice is served it would be less likely that we will take the law into our mown hands..

This guy has had many chances to amend his devious ways but refused to change. He talks about Mr Leblanc destroying his crops!!! The guy was more interested in other more devious kinds of behavior than growing crops because there were other “crops’ he was interested in. He has been know to be involved in all kinds of illegal activity and behaviour. Twelve years in jail is little considered to his past history of lawlessness.
