The Dominican accused of brutally killing a baby in St. Maarten made his first court appearance on that island on Friday.

Dalton Le Blanc was taken before a Judge of Instruction for the crime that sent shock waves through the Dutch/French island and Dominica.

The judge was given details of the crime and prosecutors asked that the suspect’s pre-trial detention be extended while they gathered more evidence and carried out their investigation, according to media reports.

The request was granted and the judge ordered eight more days of pre-trial detention for Le Blanc.

Both the prosecution and the defense refused to comment on the matter, saying it was still under investigation.

Le Blanc is the prime suspect in the killing of the infant, identified as two-month-old Mark Reid, Jr.

The crime took place in an area called Middle Region and according to reports it appeared that Le Blanc had gone ‘berserk.’

It is amazing how many people are calling for his execution (so to speak). Do not forget that your sane child, parent, sis, bro or other family member can turn insane instantaneously.

I wonder whether any of his family member spoke like you guys concerning those before him who committed similar criminal act. I wonder whether they too called for others to be killed or tortured and didn’t know their turn was coming. Be careful you stand, lest you fall…..

It will serve you better to pray for your family and pray for others too – Again, you do not know when any of your family member will snap, no matter how sane they are. So be not quick to cast stones – you have glass houses and might just break your own glass.

Some people do not think beyond. They do not put on their thinking cap. Broadmindedness and common sense should dictate to us that there are times such as this incident, Dalton gave way to some force which drove him to the extremity of his action. This is why considering his abnormal behaviour we must have empathy for him.
We do need to pray. We never know what lurks for us in a wink of an eye.
It was stated he was a quiet man. He could also have had suppressed feelings of whatever nature. Some men of all do not talk about their problems. One day it gets too much for them and they just snap. Let us also pray for him and his family.
Obviously, the baby’s parents and other family members are in grief. They will never get over it. I do feel for them and what they are going through and visualize how much they are missing their baby. It is difficult for them knowing that they will never see their baby. I remember them in my prayers. May God console them.
As in Holy Scriptures: “Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep/mourn with those who do.”

judging from the information that was given on the news, it sounds like he took one of those drugs ecstasy, molly, or some Hallucinating drug that ulsters the mind of any normally. If that is the case He probably wouldn’t remember anything after the drug leaves his system him. but that is still no excuse for his behaviour. he made that choice to take it and he should be punished.

DNO, Dominicans worldwide who read about this are also shocked that one of our own could resort to such atrocities. It is a real melee.
My heart goes out to this man. My heart goes out to him. I feel sorry for him. He has a problem and is in need of medical treatment.
Those of us who have empathy for him are not exonerating him. Residing abroad in a greater population, we are exposed to all sorts of strange incidents. We hear and read about them as also DA residents who hear about them especially on TV. We pray to God for protection that no incident of any nature ever happen to us.
If I recall reading Dalton was a good worker and a quiet person. Who knows? Something could also have occurred at work which triggered his attitude.
While he was in the house he heard the baby crying. The baby heard the commotion which scared him and he began crying. In his frame of mind, this must have caused Dalton to become irate and he grabbed the baby.
We do not know why he chose the house and what he had planned to do with the baby. If he does not know the occupants of the house, he could also have been disoriented.
When (if) the police chased him/was after him they did not know what he had. They asked him to drop it or knowing that he was followed he dropped the baby.
In his state of mind, he got scared and his first reaction was to drop the baby causing it to die. I do not think that he meant to kill the baby.
Dalton was in a bad state of mind.
I hope the St. Maarten police authorities will be intelligent and considerate enough to have him mentally examined and get a psychiatric assessment. Sensible and compassionate people will think beyond and conclude that something happened to him which contributed to his strange actions. One way or the other he will have to pay the price of his actions. However, I do hope that he will receive fair lawyer defense and treatment from the Court.
We would obviously want to hear about the proceedings and the outcome of this case. Thank you DNO for keeping us informed.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. I am definitely not condoning what the man did by killing an innocent child, but from what I have gathered, he snapped. Any of us could snap and when we snap, we do different acts, and after when it is said and done, the damage is done.

That is why we are each others keeper. If we know someone is acting out of character, we should try to help or get involved. I am not talking about a calculated murder. I have done some human brain research and this guy, definitely has snapped. Any one of us could snap at anytime. It is only the fare of God and self control that we are not in the same boat or even worst.

Lets pray for this young man, and also the family who have lost their precious child. The Lord knows the heart. We have to be punished for what we do on the earth, but the one who has the last say and knows our heart is the Lord God Almighty.
We have children and family, and we should not rejoice when these unbelievable happens. We do not know who next will snap. Is could be the most quiet person amongst us. PRAY,PRAY,PRAY.

    April 8, 2013

I sympathise with the parents and family of the innocent deceased baby it is a very hard one to deal with, no one would like their baby to die so miserably.
I also sympathise with the family of Dalton,I do not think that in his right senses would have done such a thing , something definitely went wrong. So all the people saying to crucify him should think twice and show some mercy.Though I agree that he has to face some form of punishment but let the court decide. Do not judge him before the hearing.

I endorse that. While I do feel sorry for the parents of the baby, I also feel sorry for him. It is incomprehensible that he would have done something like that and under normal circumstances.

Have you given this incident a thought? Have you given a thought to him and his demeanor at that time and what caused him to do such a thing? If it were a member of your family or a friend, what would you state and how would you feel? Where is your empathy?

Death cant compare to the pain that the family is facing. it could have been a miracle baby that she just lost.

      • Justice and Truth
        April 9, 2013

I agree with you. However, only God knows. Consider the numerous babies that are aborted worldwide specifically in the U.S., the loss of future adults/citizens. They were not given a right to life. It is sad.
This brings to mind the words of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta when someone asked her why have they not yet found a cure for cancer. She replied: “Because they aborted the scientist/ researcher/doctor…”
As sad as it is for the parents and I do visualize their grief, the baby has gone back to his Creator, Our Almighty Father and is resting happily in his love, glory and peace. He is an angel playng with the other angels in Heaven, some of whom had suffered from terminal illnesses in their short lives.
Consider, if per chance the baby would grow up to be a teenager and then an adult, what type of person would he be? Do you know the saying, “God protects us from something worst than death?” There is no doubt that God protected the baby from this and also from a lifetime of pain and suffering if he were to survive the fall which would have created further suffering and expense for his parents.

If that woman had a gun, it would have been by her bedside and her baby would have been alive…..u never know people, be prepared to protect your family

      April 8, 2013

      Honestly????

You are calling for persons to be armed in the guise of protectign their loved ones? That would be the defense of everyone then, self defense.

What makes it worse is that with lil or no facts – you are calling for perople to arm themselves and be prepared to protect their families.

This is random – this is NOT normal everyday occurance…

      April 8, 2013

My heart goes out to the family and all affected and I am ashamed at the fact that it was a Dominican who did that, but please!!! a gun!!! come on, two wrongs don’t make a right. Remember that is how violence starts and we are talking about finding ways of settling disputes peaceably.
I personally would arm myself with something that would render him immovable until the police comes at least without harming him permanently or killing him. At least I would have achieved the objective of protecting my family without killing someone and it would all be in self defense. A gun is not necessary.
