Dominican arrested in major Antiguan drug bust

A Dominican and a Canadian couple have been arrested in Antigua for alleged cocaine smuggling.

The drug seized is estimated to be valued at about $EC565,115.

According to press reports from that island the three were arrested at the VC Bird International Airport during an operation by the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy last Saturday.

The Dominican has been identified as 29-year-old Kenny Reynolds, a security officer at the airport who reportedly failed to properly check the passengers before allowing them into the departure lounge.

Press reports indicate that the cocaine was found strapped to the body of 49-year-old Robert Veillette and 37-year-old Angie Eliotte, both Canadian nationals, when they attempted to board a flight to Canada.

The Canadians were charged for Drug Trafficking, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with intent to supply, Exportation and Being concerned in the supply of Cocaine.

Reynolds was charged for Drug Trafficking, Being concerned in the supply of Cocaine and Exportation.

All three appeared in court on Tuesday where the matter was transferred to the High Court as the quantity of drugs involved exceeds the amount for which a magistrate can conduct a trial.

Have respect! Is this the manner how you reply to people? Some fellow Dominicans are not able to respond to other fellow Dominicans amicably. I do not think much of you. You have a lot to learn about respectful and amicable communication.
Are you one of those who own guns or do you know some people who own guns and who commit crimes/ murders in DA? I hope you are not one of the criminals Police are searching for and who is not yet caught. Why are you taking offence and raising objections? You give yourself away.
Yes! I reiterate how did those guns get to Dominica and in the hands of criminals who use them when robbing? I am a concerned Dominican. I have the right to ask this question.
You know that guns are dangerous weapons and people use them to injure and kill others. In addition innocent people could be injured or murdered.
In bygone years we never heard of guns in Dominica and guns being used in Dominica. What has happened to some youth of today that it appears their friend and companion is a gun? They use it against people who do not harm them. They go out of their way to rob and use them against people who are minding their business and that of their employers. Something is wrong somewhere.
United we stand, divided we fall. All and I expect specifically law-abiding Dominicans should ask that question. Probably they will get an answer. It is important. We need to know.

So what if you think a good lawyer could acquit him which is what you insinuated. There is a saying, “Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear” or “foot in mouth”.
The question is as a security officer why did he not search the two Canadians? Other travelers were searched. There is a reason why he was obviously under surveillance. Let us hope as you feel that he is indeed innocent. We will hear more on this one.

@Truth and Justice I thank you for coming to my defence @Forreal I apologise if I offended you in any manner just gave my two cents had no intention of accusing and judging anyone that’s not my job. But….before anyone gets a job as security at the airport I would assume that that person would be properly trained on how to examine luggage/passengers etc for prohibited stuff. He has rules and regulations and proper procedures that he has to follow. Sorry for my ignorance but I happen to work at an airport also and I know the training and guidelines on how to search and passengers do offer bribes that could be tempting. If your friend did not get a bribe then he simply did not do his job properly and does not belong in such a sensitive position this is a port of entry/departure and that country’s national security cannot be compromised in anyway. On another note after questioning your friend on how long has he been doing this type of job, and looking at his training records the best lawyer would not be able to defend him. He just does not belong in that line of work period !

      3rd Degree

You are indeed 3rd degree. When you respond to anyone on this Website since you do not own it or own them, use proper language and refrain from fowl language. Gentlemen/ladies do not use profane language to others. Furthermore, you do not know who you are addressing. Be kind and in your manner of speech!
Read between the lines. Surely you have also noted what others have stated. Why are you picking on me? I stand for justice and truth.
Since you speak about innocent until proven guilty, I am fully aware of that. I do not need any one to inform me about it. It is nothing knew that criminals/murderers are innocent until the Court of Law proves them guilty. They will swear to their death that they are innocent. Some are acquitted and return to their same ways and become worst. Therefore, utilize your judgment. I never said that this man is guilty. I commented as others did and have the right to do so. Next time, read carefully and watch your language including what you state to others on this Website. Some of you do not like reading the truth and try to suppress the truth. You water down the truth; you want the government to legalize a drug which is harmful to people’s health. What type of human being are you?
There are people worldwide who are for and others are against legalizing illegal drugs. I join the ranks of those who are against it and always will be. People have a right to their opinion. Allow them that freedom of right. The truth will always prevail.
If you are a Christian and a practicing one at that, you will be on the right side and not on the left. God knows if this man is guilty or innocent. This does not prevent me from feeling sorry for him because he is arrested. I would not want to be in his position whether he may be innocent or guilty.
Lawyers are paid to defend criminals/murderers. What will they not say to have their clients acquitted? Those who tell lies and who allow criminals/murderers to go free will answer to God for it and this is watering down the truth, making evil good. Therefore, think God!

If those two Canadians were not caught in Antigua and arrived at the airport in Canada and were caught, it would reflect poorly on the Antigua government and police authority that those people were not properly searched or not searched at all. This would give Antigua and its police and airport authority a bad name.
Canada has drug-sniffing dogs. I do not see how they could escape them unless they had a Canadian contact to assist them.

You have noted that this person is stereotyping. Human beings are curious and we are no exception. By their last names they may be French or some other nationality. I wondered if they are from Quebec, Canada. I would love to know who they are. I am also wondering if their names will sometime be printed in the Canadian/ Toronto newspapers or the other ethnic ones. We may find out sometime.
After their case is called and if they are imprisoned, after serving time they will be deported from Antigua. The Canadian government/ immigration will be informed accordingly. They may already have been informed and by the Canadian Embassy.
Let us hope the Antiguan Police authorities do not allow them to leave saying that they decide not to pursue the case and will hand them over to a Canadian authorities (big liar). Remember what occurred in Dominica with that other case? We will hear more.

What do you think and expect? It is obvious that he is an accomplice and stood to gain a certain amount of money from it. This is how those people operate. They do not do it for nothing.
I have asked the question a few times, how did those guns and robbery paraphernalia enter Dominica? Look at what has been occurring in Dominica, namely, theft with guns. The government/police authorities also need to look into it. Some employees at the airport and in customs are responsible for allowing them in and without being detected unless they came through an illegal route.
They will risk their secured jobs and their freedom for a few almighty dollars. Money can be the root of all evil.
This occurs every where in the world and right in Canada. On occasion, some are caught. It does not mean that those drugs should be legalized.
There are times some of them who are employed at the airport are caught and fired. In the end they are imprisoned. What grief and a loss also to their family. Once arrested, charged and imprisoned they could kiss their freedom and the chance of getting a good, secure and stable job goodbye. Is it really worth it?
It is disappointing to read how many Dominicans who comment on this Website support illegal drugs, selling them and taking them and making excuses for those who do. Surely, there is a better way of making money and a lot of it. Firstly, just as they cultivate these things, they could grow fruits and vegetables and sell them on the market even overseas. Some people prefer illegal and evil works and quick money. They are not interested how many people get sick and die from taking them. In the end they pay the price.

My friend, at elementary school we were taught that “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” At your age you were blessed to have a good enough job in foreign soil; why not stay humble and protect your job and future? Now you are left without a job, locked up, and a once promising future just went abegging like sand. You young people must think twice before you make ill advised dicisions.
To all of us my people let’s think it through first before we act and regret later. Let’s also think of the scripture in proverbs that says, “There is a way that seems right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. In other word, things may always look rosie, but we must think of the possible end result which could be very costly and detremental. My prayers are with you though!

      @ As I see it

These days the Police authorities all over the world are on their heels. They are being watched and will be searched. This includes those who are airport and custom employees. They know their tricks and how they transport those drugs and that they are often allowed to pass through the airport and not searched. Few, if none at all get away with it.
The last time I passed through Antigua on my way to DA and when I transit in Antigua on my way back to Canada I was searched. I had to go through this metal detector, take my shoes off and a metal was passed over my body. How could those people ever think that they could go through the airport undetected and then onto Canada unless they have a contact at the airport in Canada? Otherwise they would have been caught. I expect that the Canadian authorities will be informed about this since the two are Canadian citizens.

      @ Sooth Sayer

Your comment is an excellent one. It made me happy to read it. There are some people who do not know that in this day and age, due to terrorists’ acts, drug-dealing, trafficking and child pornography, whatever we say over the telephone and whatever we write on Websites may be heard, read and are being recorded. The world is no longer the same and a safe one as it were in bygone years which everyone should comprehend. This is why people must be careful what they state for they are unknowingly being recorded.
There are some people who are negative ones. Some of them will even state that it was staged and/or framed.
Common sense dictates that generally those who are caught were under surveillance for sometime and that the authorities have ample information and decided to make their move at this opportunity which presented itself and arrested them. There are some government spies who turn people in.
A few months ago there was a Police raid in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario. Approximately 65 of our people, West Indians were arrested on drug-dealing and trafficking. This is not the first time that a group was arrested. The authorities had telephones tapped. Their computers were also seized. Only fools and those who refuse to hear, know, learn and accept the truth will deny it. We know what we know. We speak the truth, follow the truth and pursue justice for our benefit and that of our country and nationals. Thanks be to God.

Wishful thinking. Everyone is supposed to be searched and go through some sort of detector as is done in the U.S., Canada and Europe. This is to ensure that they are also not carrying concealed weapons. This is the Law of every land in this era with no exception. They also have supervisors who scrutinize them. Failure to do this, if caught, could be grounds for suspicion. The employee may be reprimanded, demoted or fired whichever applies to the nature and seriousness of the case. If the authorities are suspicious of an employee’s actions, know that this employee will be under constant surveillance. They should never take a chance and jeopardize their job, their good name and freedom. It is too bad this happened to him. Time will tell if he is guilty or innocent.

Know that their drug-sniffing dogs may have already sniffed them when the plane landed and you were not aware of it. Luggage has to go through an area where there may also be metal detectors. This is why you think that they did not search your luggage. Do not deceive yourself.

Indeed! Whether you are a believer or not, this is what Our Lord Jesus Christ taught: Matthew 6:25:30 – Dependence on God – Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky, they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith…
As the saying, “Take time to do good.” God always provides. He gives us just what is enough for us. He expects that we will work for our keep, food and clothing. Some people are in too much hurry to make money and a lot of it. This leads to temptation as what has occurred to this DA man and the two Canadian women and others.
      God bless you!

The people were being watched on closed circuit cameras and he instead of checking them thoroughly made light conversation and let them pass, hence the reason he was arrested.

He was wrong and a damn fool not to be doing his job. It could be worst in these times. You job is SECURITY you treat all and sundry equally, you probe, you search at the end of the day you do what you were hired to do. This could have easily happened in Dominca. @ For What It’s Worth

Are you stating that it is a coincidence that he allowed the Canadians through, that they were caught with drugs strapped to their bodies and that he is not guilty? It is strange.
Well, as a security officer, he did not perform his job efficiently as if he did not take an interest in it and was not serious about it. This is grounds for dismissal or reprimanding or demoting.
He was paid to do a job and he was expected to perform it appropriately. If he is not guilty, good for him but he may not get back his job for failing to perform it as he should. Know that his personal life and his associates will be investigated accordingly.
These days we hear so much of this that we cannot help but comment and believe what we hear and read about. It is only natural.
If someone came to you and informed you that others were gossiping about you and calling you names, just think, what would your reaction be? Would you not believe it prior to finding out the truth? I bet you would go after the people who called you names and whatever else. This goes for each and everyone who lambastes others who provide their comments. They are entitled to provide their comments and to respond amicably. We read of firsthand information and we comment according to what we read. While I feel sorry for this man I am not stating that he is not guilty and I am not condemning him. If we hear and read that he is not guilty, we will surely be happy for him. Rest assured that all of us will be eager to hear the outcome of this case as with others. Food for thought. At the same time I wish this man well. May God assist him, come what may.

You are so correct. It is the identical situation with any position employees hold except police and security jobs are such that they cannot let down their guard for one moment. He may have made a mistake. For his sake I hope so. As much as I have written, I feel sorry for him. I also think of his family and what they are also undergoing. You know the saying, “Place yourself in the other person’s shoes/situation.”
Our Lord has asked that we are compassionate towards others. Some people misunderstand the difference in speaking the truth, voicing/stating one’s opinion and being compassionate. Let us say a pray for all of them. May God be with them and strengthen them.
