Dominican shot dead in St. Vincent; another in police custody

A man, believed to be from Calibishie, was the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred in St. Vincent, yesterday, following a shootout with the Vincentian Police. Two other men, a Dominican and a Vincentian, remain in police custody.

Commissioner of Police Cyril Carrette, in an interview with DBS, confirmed that the incident occurred when a boat, destined for Dominica which had not yet departed, was intercepted by police.

“I received information from the Police in St. Vincent, yesterday, informing me that a Dominican boat was intercepted by the Vincentian Coast Guard on the shore in St. Vincent and there was a shootout with the police and one Dominican was shot dead and another Dominican was captured and a Vincentian was captured as well,” Carrette said.

While he didn’t reveal the names of neither the dead man nor the two in custody, he did point out that approximately thirty-one kilograms of cocaine was found on the boat, along with an unspecified quantity of marijuana.

The Commissioner, however, insists that the Police are determined to continue to combat the illegal drug trade that so plagues the region.

He stated, “We are working collaboratively with our counterparts [in the Latin American countries], because there has been an increase in drug activities. They are trying to tighten in places like Mexico where they have these drugs going up to the United States of America and now we are seeing more frequent movements of these crafts carrying drugs through the region. It is indeed very serious but we will not relent in our efforts at pursuing those drug traffickers and trying to bring them to justice.”

We have to live with the consequences of our actions: the same way the captain of the ship paid with his life, is the same way people who CHOOSE to do drugs will pay. The drug dealers can only sell to those who accept the drugs. Demand and suppy 101.

Vincentian police have no conscience, they seem to forget that it is once a police and twice a civilian. D/cans, these officers treat people like dogs, this is nothing compare to Dominica Police. I am fed up of telling them so. They just figure out that once they have a gun is shot and once they have a boots is kick. And they think that they can curse you and you can’t reply, but I had to put one in his place and was about to make him apologize, but he beat me to it.

Could you imagine that when these victims goes on these missions and are missed by their families, these families go to the police and reports that their loved ones went on a fishing expidition and have not returned, causing our coast guards to go out on wild goose chase trying to find them when in fact they are out on drug deals. So many of our young productive guys are loosing their lives out there, why the others are not learning their lessons and stop the trade?

    • Victims
      July 15, 2011

So so true when will our young men learn that they need to work for their money and cannot continue to take part in illegal actives to make money.
This is not about me running down the weed man, because i have friends and family who uses the stuff, its about young strong men who are able to work, who have acres of land in their country and can make an honest living but choose not too, about young men who suck their parents and family dry by putting them through unnecessary worry because they feel that they should not have to work, but push drugs to leave.
On the other hand until our parents, elders, girlfriend, family and wife’s stop aiding and abetting the drug runners we will not be reed of this problem.
The people who enjoy the profits of the these drug runs should be given the same punishment as the perpetration, because they are the one the illiterate drug dealers are trying to impress and support.
As long as these men are with women who are “red eye” they will continue to offend to keep those bitches sweet, get reed of the cause and hey the problem is solved, if the red eye “wanti wanti” and upholders were being given the same punishment as the dealers we would have less drug runs.
Come on Dominicans get to the source the upholder is worst than the thief.

For all those that screaming to kill all the drug dealers and shoot them. Remember for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Think the drug dealers don’t come here and read the messages and new columns too? Think friends, family, “customers”, etc. don’t tell them what is the consensus for their fate? Think again. They will arm up, guns up, bullet proof vest up 10 times more than they already are and now pose a bigger threat to us the regular citizens who work hard for a living.

There are a lot of other non violent ways to resolve the drug problem. Take the cartel problem in mexico and the US borders for example. The more they beef up security and shoot them, the drug cartels get worse and worse and increase in size, increase artillery, and increase their ruthlessness. I don’t want it to be like that in Dominica, where you have 5 and 6 sets of groups fighting each other for drug trade control. That is where the innocent people will die.

If you are so concerned for the youths and their potential poisoning then speak out to the police as to the information that you know. If you are afraid of retaliation then do it anonymously. Be smart people.

Be careful what you wish for, you might not like what you get.

      @ Pops

If the drug dealers do not read the comments, then the information should also be in the newspapers.
I do think that they access those Websites and read the comments. If they do not, some other people who read them, especially the youth could benefit from them.
Let me further inform you, criminals/ murderers do listen to and read the general news. They are curious to know what is being stated about them, including the Police and how the Police are conducting the investigations and their findings. This is why the Police cannot divulge certain pertinent information during investigations relating to those cases so as not to prejudice the cases and hinder their progress.
In other words they do not want to provide feedback to those criminals and murderers which may cause them to hide somewhere and continue their evil works. They want to catch their man, woman who committed crimes and soon enough so as to get them out of the streets and have them prosecuted. Comprehend!
Sensible comments and words of advice on Websites of any nature are valid. It may be that those drug addicts and others who are involved in criminal activities may learn from them and turn from their wicked ways.
We are also each other’s teachers, one way or the other. May be it be good and of benefit to benefit everyone. The world is in dire need of peace and safety which will benefit us, the law-abiding people.
You, too, need to assist the youth and your country. You are not an exception.

Weed is illegal because of its value and culture. It enriches a selected few and with anything else that is of hight value brings lots of death and suffering….

Anyways, marijuana as a plant is good but when it burnt it is no longer in its natural state. it is unburnt materials from the plant so therefore, The human body wasn`t built by Jah to induce this carbon (smoke). This is the reason why when we couch the body is rejecting it(smoke). Smoking also reduces the level of oxygenated blood in our system which damages the vatal organs in our bodies

Do you know that Jehovah speaks to us in many ways and we refuse to obey him. We feel that we can control our life but no. He warns us many time.when we show no regard to him, he then will say to us enough is enough. It is time that this Family take their life serious. This is a generation curse. To many in the family is dying like that. Please look at this serious. Be content with little what you have. Jehovah God will bless it. Paboii God was watching you. i cant stand to see my country go down like this.. i volunteer myself as a trained marine sniper to go out there at night and hunt down those who profit bigtime from this illegal activity. once you are part of such activities and you transport drugs you will be taken out.. its time we fight for our peaceful island.. they drive around in their big hummers, their big cars, all their bikes, their houses.. its time – this is destroying the youths and soon those same youths will not be able to take the mantle as the future generation..

US Marine Sniper (2 tours in iraq and also served as security detail on US hospital ship)
its time we remove the evil doers from our humble dominican society

Are you going to use your US Sniper training and kill half the population of Dominica?

Don’t you realize that when one drug dealer is killed, five more are waiting to take his place?

There are other ways to solve these problems. Try to find those alternative methods and stop the violence.

      @ Exterminator

Know this, your (our) country is not going down. Those who commit crimes are the ones who are going down. Yes, they will give Dominica a bad name. Consider every country has its fair share of this problem and more, no better than Dominica. Should anyone make derogatory remarks about it, inform them accordingly. Keep your head up high and proud for your beloved Dominica. Defend it, pray for it including yourself and other nationals.
I reside overseas and I speak up and out for Dominica and defend it should anyone make uncomplimentary remarks about it and generalize all Dominicans. Keep in mind, people are people all over the world. There are good ones and bad ones; law-abiding ones and non-law abiding ones.
What saddens me is that so many of our people, some young men and women, more men and boys are being murdered as a result of drug trafficking and protecting their turfs. Of course, there are a few who were innocent and were murdered. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are others who were making a better life for themselves and their counterparts decided to murder them. You only have to be walking along the street and going about your business and you could get killed by gun-toting criminals, even by Police who shoot after those criminals who are running away and who are also shot at by criminals. I keep praying to the Lord to protect me from such.
Let us all keep praying for God’s protection and also for those criminals that God may mellow their heart.
If there is one thing I would like to see eradicated from the face of the earth are criminals of every sort. May God through our prayers put a hand.

It is no conspiracy theory that heroine was introduced to vietnam vets my the CIA and Cocaine was brought in by them to kill of blacks in California, only thing their white babies fell victim to it during the “flower revolution’ so the US Marine Corps toyed with it and experimented with making it more hardcore hence the birth of crack!

We do not want drug dealers & traffickers on our shores nor in our region, however if you so good take out the main issue you so proudly boast of and we will clean our own mess up, we still need our young black men to be productive elements of our nature island. @Buckshatt

You may be a Marine but you are really speaking a lot nonsense.
It is stated, “Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear.” This goes for making statements on this Website. Most importantly ask God to enlighten you. Whenever I speak and write including whatever I do, I ask God for his Divine guidance and enlightenment.
Some of you seem to misinterpret what is stated. Be careful what you state and do not judge and condemn others.
I have heard and read of your type of propaganda as related on this Website about the American government wanting the natural resources of Iraq of all. I disagree with you as much as I have disagreed with others who made this statement.
Some people lack basic common sense and knowledge to think and reason out for themselves based on the circumstances.
First of all, did the government state that they were entering Iraq and Afghanistan for other reasons than to eradicate Saddam, his supporters and terrorism? Have you really heard this? Prove it to us, the readers/ users on this Website. This is pure speculation on the part of the US Media and others to accuse the U.S. government of going after Saddam because of procuring its oil.
You seem to forget what occurred on 9-11, that fateful day for approximately 3,000 people. Every time I recall this and write about it, my heart hurts and for what those people experienced. The pain, the grief, mourning, the sadness to mention a few words. Are you without empathy for what occurred then and why the U.S. decided to enter Iraq of all to get Saddam?
It was debated and decided to enter those countries, first Iraq to get Saddam because it was speculated that he had weapons of mass destruction and was harboring terrorists who caused 9-11, this was the sole reason of the U.S.
During those televised debates which Saddam himself and all Middle East countries of all were listening to, he may well have hidden those weapons or sent them to other Middle East countries. America is not as secretive as those Middle East countries.
What I do think is that the government underestimated the force and might of the opposers as Al Qaeda and the Talibans. The U.S. thought that everyone in those countries would be elated and recline that their countries are receiving help, to free them from their government oppressors, the oppressive law which also oppressed women. Need I say more on this?
Little did the U.S. government know what would ensue as the wicked people of those lands tried to protect their evil ways towards their own people.
Keep in mind that oppressors, those who are drug dealers and traffickers have no love and respect for the lives of others. They will kill whoever is in their way. Their works are evil.
Growing, dealing and trafficking in drugs assist them to sell them, others purchase them and protect their turfs and their environment and in the interim making exorbitant sums of money, to purchase ammunition and weapons.
They are obviously upset that the U.S. government infiltrated their country, creating a hindrance for them and also in illegal drug-growing and trafficking.
When the U.S. government entered Iraq, it was stated that they were not going after civilians but Saddam but “to put a spoke in his wheel” so-to-speak and to eradicate him. You should recall that the U.S. government instructed its Marines not to harm civilians.
Saddam was an evil man. He had followers whom he recruited and financially supported. Among them were no doubt Al Qaeda and Talibans, wherever they may reside. Do I need to elaborate further on the actions of Saddam even towards his own family and in-laws? Read about it.
The U.S. Government is not an enemy of those civilians. The U.S. was careful not to endanger civilians. Marines were given the directive not harm the civilians. Without this premise I doubt that the U.S. would have entered Iraq of all. Obviously in any war civilians in any part of the world, will be caught in the middle.
Those who caused more harm are Saddam supporters, Al Qaeda and Talibans and their supporters.
I would like to call you stupid as some people, in that, you asked the question if the U.S. will infiltrate Dominica to eradicate the drug addicts. This is a silly statement. Just keep out the Al Qaeda’s, Talibans and their likes away from Dominica. May the government do its utmost to deny them entry into Dominica. They are the troublemakers who will want the national resources of Dominica and oppress its nationals. Please keep this in mind.
The Dominican Government and the Police Force are capable of eradicating illegal drug-growing, dealing and trafficking in time.
Dominica is a small nation. They have the authority, if only they will apply it and never cease doing so.
If the Government does not expend this time in eradicting them, by land, air and sea, Dominica will soon become another Trinidad, Jamaica and Mexico of all. It is bad enough already. God, please put a hand.
Marines who specifically volunteered and enlisted in the Army and who, thanks be to God survived are entitled to University education. Many did not enter for the purpose of injuring and killing anyone and some of them entered for their own personal gain, a salary and education. They hoped that their lives will be spared and after their stint in this war they will be able to educate themselves, free of charge at taxpayers’ expense. They are at an advantage.
You have benefited from being in the Army and it may very well have been a learning and discipline process. Apply it appropriately.
Therefore, what is your contention and beef? Look at what you, personally and others who were in the Marine and those who are presently in the Marine have gained and are gaining. Cease being negative and one-sided.
Cease being negative and one-sided. Do not only live for yourself but also for others. The Word of the Lord.
        May God assist you accordingly.

YES! I said it bravo! to the vincincian police thats the way to do the job. I hope our officers take note and learn from the Vincie police. May their souls rest in peace internal peace never to rise again. This is not a police officer`s opinion nor a politician. Just a law abding Dominican man who have no use for drugs and drugs dealers and Law breakers. Take what they get if our police force cannot do the job then the Lucian, the Guda and the Vincie police will do it for us thanks to the regional forces on a job well done. Now let the haters ventand I say bring it on.

No excuse to commit crimes. Crime does not pay. In the long run people pay for their crimes. What goes around comes around in time.

What a sad way to make a living. Live by the drug and weapon, die by the drug and weapon. I fully support the actions of the Vincentian Police/Authorities. Hope that lessons taught lessons learnt for those who choose the illegal way to make a living.

For them to die too when they talk… for the same corrupt police to say they are criminals so they cannot accept their statements… if you only knew who involved. But God will deal with all of them. One by one.. watch and see
