Dominican teen accused of attempting to burglarize police station

Dominican Vernon Bernard leaving the court

An 18-year-old Dominican residing in the BVI is awaiting trial for attempting to steal a motorbike from a police station.

Vernon Bernard will reappear at the BVI High Court on March 2, 2010.  Bernard, along with a 17-year-old, were arrested in November last year in connection with the attempted burglary at the Road Town Police Station.

According to a police press release, during the wee hours of Saturday morning [November 28], an officer at the police station discovered one of the perpetrators with his face covered holding a bolt cutter on the premises, but the individual fled the scene as the officer sought assistance.

Preliminary investigations indicated that three perpetrators gained entry to the premises by cutting through the perimeter barrier in the back of the compound.

A fourth male remained in a get-away car. The cutter and the get-a-way car used in the incident were recovered and analyzed by the Scene of Crime Unit.

    HOMEBOY….O BOY

Firstly, the crime was committed in the BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. If you are convited of serious crime in the UK and it’s Dependant territories, it is likely that you can be deported to your country of birth, irregardless of being a citizen.

As for your comment on US Law, I beseech you to access the US Homeland Security website.

That child only born in Dominica but he has lived in the BVI for a very long time with his mother who is a Dominican. I am sure he learnt all his tricks there because that is where he was raised.
Mister is a very troubled child, and he is causing his mother a lot of stress. …I don’t know what his problem is, but I am sure that if he gets sent back to Dominca, he will never survive there.

Dominica is not a playground. I am sure no one in Dominica has ever thought to go rob the headquarters when the police confiscate their bikes. Oh but in the BVI he wants to drive an illegal bike and when the police take it away he wants to go get it back? ………he is a nuisance to himself and his mother.

Well by all means send him back so he can be taught a lesson. You think we want Dominica to become poluuted with these fellas? He will see what it is to be a badman.

Homeboy is correct. There have been one ot two instances where US naturalized citizens have been deported as a result of providing false information on their application. There are extradition laws, but that is not applicable in this scenario.

Besides, even though a naturalized citizen could easily be deported to his country of birth, why would we want them back in Dominica? What do you think criminals who are deported back to their birth countries do? Do you think they sit around and play hopscotch and sing ring-around-the rosie all day? Take a look at the three caribbean islands (jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad) with the highest U.S. deportation rate. These islands have some of the highest crime rates in the world, because the deportees just resume their old habits once they get back home…they have nothing to lose…

Robbing the police station, not very smart, idiot!

  23. Homeboy
    February 8, 2010

To LAW that is not totally correct.. If someone is Naturalized in the USA, the only way they can be deported is if (1) They were found to have lied to gain their US Citizenship..
Such as by being affiliated with the NAZI party or other terrorist organization..

If they commit burglaries or other felonies they are not repatriated.. Disobeying the law is such a broad term, there are certain statutes that will cause revocation of citizenship and deportation.

But if he is not a citizen then I say deport him
