Director of Public Prosecutions Gene Pestaina is standing by his January 9 decision to discontinue a case against 22-year-old Sarah Lyn Augustine of Mahaut, a young Dominican who is also a Canadian citizen.
Pestaina told Dominica News Online that his decision was based on a psychiatrist’s report and the intervention of the Canadian authorities.
A report by Consultant Psychiatrist Griffin Benjamin concluded that Augustine, alleged to have murdered her two children, “is mentally fit to plead and answer the charges against her”.
However the DPP said he was more interested in another part of the same report that indicated that “Augustine was diagnosed as suffering with Post partum Depression, a clinical illness characterized by a major depressive episode”.
He also took into consideration, he says, offers of help from the Canadian authorities to provide necessary psychiatric facilities for Augustine.
“We don’t have any suitable psychiatric facility here to deal with this lady, she would be tried, very probably convicted, sent to jail for a length of time and waste away,” Pestaina said in explaining why he arrived at the decision he did.
“The matter was discontinued on the understanding, the agreement that the Canadian authorities are going to house her and give her the adequate psychiatric treatment which I think everybody believe and understands that she needs,” the DPP told DNO.
He could not however confirm whether Augustine, who is in Canada, having earlier been granted bail, was freely walking the streets of that north American country as has been alleged on some social network sites, or had in fact been confined to a facility by the Canadian authorities.
Augustine is alleged to have stabbed her five year old daughter Rachael Vigilant 45 times and her two month old baby Sophia 31 times.
A police report also indicates that after committing the act, she attempted suicide by trying to slit her wrist through a “deep wound in the left arm area of the wrist”.
While her name does appear on the January 2012 criminal assizes that begins at the High Court in Roseau on Tuesday (24th Janaury), it says under the section OFFENCE, that a notice of discontinuance has been filed.
Some Dominican nationals from the diaspora and elsewhere, writing on the social network FaceBook have harshly criticized the decision to discontinue the case, arguing that justice has not been served by that move.
She should have rotted in prison!!!

I am taking a spiritual view on this, as many have justified this based on God forgiving Sarah.
Yes, GOD forgives. He is a forgiving, merciful and gracious God. But what is forgiveness? Is it that we can do whatever we want and then just run to God and say, Father God, I have sinned, please forgive me? And then be on our merry way? Many have said that “God will forgive Sarah Lyn Augustine” and I agree that He will if she “SINCERELY “repents; however, that doesn’t mean she should not be held responsible for her actions HERE ON EARTH. When God forgives, He is blotting out our transgressions from His record in HEAVEN; thus, rekindling the relationship (spiritual) with Him so we can be called a Child of God. Being forgiven of her sins, means that she has secured a place in heaven if she maintains her position as a child of God. This, however, doesn’t mean that she should be TRUSTED in the same “office” which she betrayed-(Society).
Let’s look at two examples.
#1: Adam and Eve disobeyed God (they sinned). God forgave the both of them by covering them with “blood”. YET, He drove them out of Eden “Lest they stretch forth their hands and eat of the tree of life”. Ostensibly, He did not TRUST them in the position He originally placed them- a place where they could “freely” eat – but they had betrayed that trust and as such they were no longer deemed responsible to be in such a “position”. Hence, though forgiven, they had to be placed “outside” where they TOILED for their “bread” instead. In addition, the level of trust was so low, that GOD even placed flaming swords at the entrance of the Garden to ensure that they don’t try to “sneak” in because GOD knows the heart of man. YET, they were already forgiven and still children of GOD- but they had a trust issue.
#2: Saul was King of Israel – a child of GOD. He disobeyed the orders of God – and what happened? GOD rejected him from being KING. “ Because you have rejected the word of God He has also rejected you from being KING”. Notice, it doesn’t say that he was rejected from being a child of GOD, but from the position of being KING. In other words, God could no longer trust Saul as a King- he had an issue of trust.
I am saying this to say that, God may have forgiven Sarah providing that she sincerely repented, but shall she be kept in “eden” lest she put forth her hand and strike again? Shall she be trusted among others? Depression is more spiritual than anything. Many have claimed that she had PPD, this is nothing more than a demonic spirit that took over that child and the truth is, no amount of medication can fix that – the demon has to be cast out from her if she is to be “normal” again. Given that her family is very “spiritual” or Christians (correct me if I am wrong), they, of all people, should understand that truth. Can they ascertain that she is “spiritually” well to roam around? Until that spirit of murder/depression(aka PPD) is cast out she needs to be in a place where she cannot strike again. THOUGH, she might be forgiven- yet she has a trust issue.

What do you really know about God and His forgiveness? Who said that God does not forgive and will not forgive her? There are grounds for God’s forgiveness. He does not go about forgiving people and those who do not seek it from Him. There are also conditions for their forgiveness. Since you are quoting from the Bible you should know this. It is not for you, personally to forgive by merely quoting from the Bible. It is for God to forgive those who have sorely offended Him and by murdering those two children, if only they ask His forgiveness and their actions thereafter which will appease Him. God knows their heart. Save your quotations and time.
I read this story last evening on DNO. I provided my comments. This morning when I awoke, as I reflected, this case crossed my mind and decided to provide my further comments. I hope this was done through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Sarah Lyn Augustine decided to return to Dominica with her two children. It appears her intention was not to return to Canada.
While in Dominica, she murdered her two children. These are two murders of young children which is a serious matter.
So she experience Post Partum. The Law should be able to deal with her accordingly. If Dominica does not have such a service, this is something which the government should pursue and implement in Dominica. After all there will be other people in DA who would suffer from same.
I, too, reside in Canada. Murders of babies are taken extremely seriously. She would have been arrested and imprisoned. A case would obviously be called. She could have been granted bail under certain circumstances. If she is considered a flight risk, her passport would be confiscated.
A case would be called and the Law would decide whether she is fit to stand trial. She would have been referred to a Psychiatrist who would assess her and provided the results to the Court.
She still would have to stand trial and if she is found to be mentally unfit, she would be placed in a mental institution. Otherwise she would be imprisoned for some years.
Who wants to have anything to do with a murderer? She should be feared.
I also believe that if she resides in Canada, any children she may have in the future would be taken away from her by the Children authorities, given that she murdered her two children. In fact, to make this explicit, she may have been informed not to have any children otherwise the children will be taken away from her.
Having been released on bail in Dominica, she is obviously still a murderer. Therefore, her passport should have been seized and stamped accordingly. She should not have been allowed to leave Dominica under normal circumstances. The Canadian Police authorities should have been contacted and notified about her. It should not be a secret to withhold from either Dominicans or Canadians.
If her family in Dominica and Canada wanted her to return to Canada, as a murderer whose case was not yet called, provisions should have been made with the Canadian authorities to hand her over to them. She should then be escorted out of Dominica by DA Police authorities and handed over to the Canadian Police authorities. This should have been the policy.
However, the DPP appear to have conducted secret conversations with what they have stated the Canadian authorities and simply allowed her to leave, on her own and enter Canada as a normal citizen to live a normal life in Canada. This should never have occurred.
Her return to Canada appears to have been conducted underhand. People in Dominica and Canada need to be protected from murderers whether they killed their children or adults and whether the woman had a post-partum seriously. This illness could lead to insanity and other problems as murder, too.
It is a serious matter and one which should not have been taken lightly.
Since this woman murdered her two children in Dominica, her case should have been heard in Dominica. Now the DPP has let her go to be free to roam in Canada’s mainstream.
You have made an error DPP. You have given Dominica another bad name in the eyes of the government of Canada that also you are incapable of conducting a fair system and hs a lax system.
I will be contacting my Member of Parliament in Ottawa, Canada which is where Parliament members conduct their daily sessions about this, instructing him to contact the Minister of Immigration about this and will demand a response. In fact, I do not have to demand a response I will request one because since this was not news in Canada (which should be) he may not have heard about it.
I have previously written my MP on certain matters who always responded. This case, the murders of two children, is a serious matter and the Police authorities should be notified as well. It should also be on her Canadian record as murdering her two children, as a murderer, one who did not leave by the Law. If she is a mental case, she will not be allowed to leave Canada.

Today, I took a first step and it was to write my MP in Ottawa; not at his local, Toronto office. If you want action, send it directly to the Ottawa office.
The next step is to contact the Police Department, the Social Assistance and Children’s Aid Society. There are two Children’s Aid. Another is the Catholic Children’s Aid Society or Child Welfare that they are also referred to.
She really should not get away with this for she murdered her children. I do believe that she is being protected.
The first time I read that she murdered her two children and note how many times she stabbed them, not once or twice but numerous times in order to kill them, it hurt my heart.

You are the idiot because you do not know the Law of Canada.
I am a resident in Canada, a taxpayer and a naturalized Canadian. It is my business to ensure that justice is meted out. As such, I have my rights to write and to speak out. No one can take that away from me.
I suppose that you are either her family or friend. Whether you are, it is imperative that you face the truth. The woman has murdered two of her children. She is a murderer and the DPP may not have followed proper protocol. Your comments give me the urge to do more than what I have written. The Canadian government as also the Immigration department and the Police Department and all other departments where she will seek assistance must be fully aware of this. A murderer who did not face the DA Court or any Court should not be roaming the streets of Canada.
If you know where she is and that she is undergoing treatment in Canada, as approved by the Canadian authorities, let us know. We do not want to know her whereabouts but that the Canadian authorities know where she is and if they are aware of what she did.

Pestinea messed up big time. While we know he is the “fall guy” in this instance, he should have said NO the the Attorney and Canbiet and let the matter proceed. Bottom line is, someone KILLED these poor kids and accountibility is paramount. What he did should have been left for a Judge to do as part of sentencing if a conviction was achieved.

Red Eye that’s the way it is in Dominica; we all are related in some way on that island, and for we do not know, they might well be related in someway, or since they are from the same village, who knows what the connection is.

If she is in Canada, some of us in Canada will contact our government authorities and send her picture to them. The government will not take it lightly, a woman who murdered her two children and will investigate it. She is a murderer while she lives and to her death. This stigma, nothing can ever erase.
The last thing that the Canadian government wants, are murderers and more of them in this country. It is unfair that she is freely walking the streets in mainstream Canada when her case was not yet called in Dominica.
From my point of view, she should be returned to DA. This would teach DPP, the judge and/or magistrate and make them feel humiliated, a lesson, to conduct their cases appropriately and not lay them on the hands of the Canadian authorities, the latter, if this was really done and underhand. It is unfair to Canadians since she murdered her two children in Dominica and not in Canada.
It is stupidity in itself that she was allowed to leave. A murderer of two children, her passport should have reflected it accordingly. We will not let this lie and not in vain, all for the love of those beautiful children whom she murdered, depriving them of a life. She did not deserve to have those children.
God knows her reasons and if she was really suffering from Post Partum or from being rejected by her lover. This was one way of getting back at him. However, she made a grave error. She has to live with this and will never be happy unless she makes penance and sacrifice as a means of appeasing God for murdering her two children. This includes sincere worship and prayers and performing acts of love in Jesus Name.
Jesus loves the little children of the world. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is hurting at such atrocities. Thank God, they are angels in Heaven and will never experience the pain, hardship and suffering of this world.

If the Canadian authorities are aware of that, they will determine if she will be allowed to teach children or work in areas where there are children.
The authorities cannot prevent her from having children but if she gets pregnant, she will be scrutinized and the moment she has a baby, he/she will be immediately taken away from her and given child protection into the hands of authorities of the Children’s Aid.
Where specifically children are concerned, since they are vulnerable and future adults, the Canadian authorities take this extremely serious.
Teach the children well, nurture them appropriately and do not harm them. They are the future adults of the world.

I suffer from post partum depression as well, and trust me it’s not a very good feeling. I have a four year old son whose dad is trying to gain custody of him because of my ‘condition’. i may have had negative thoughts in my mind sometimes but rest assured i could never bring myself to doing harm to my son, the being that i carried for nine horibble months. He is very unruly towards me because of the stuff his dad put in his head that i kicked him out the house and broke up the family – but never will i commit such an act, i will cast my burden unto the lord for he will never allow the righteous to be moved.
I dont know what was going on in Ms. Augustine’s head i grew up with the young lady, but stabbing your kids multiple times like that is just plain and simply crazy. I will not comment anymore i will just say a prayer for hte lil angels and for Sarah herself. God Bless us all

No way if she were in Canada would they discontinue the case. She would be dealt with the full brunt of the Law. If she were deemed a mental case, she would be placed in such an institution.
Thanks to their lawyers and psychiatrists, some people will be sent there to avoid imprisonment but if they are eventually found fit to stand trial, they will be tried and sentenced.
Dominica Law is too lax and showed empathy for this woman. She committed two crimes/ murders in DA and she should have been dealt with accordingly as anyone in DA who committed a crime/murder. There is something wrong with the DA Law.
It is alleged she was suffering from PPD. In this day and age anything can be faked; just go on the net and learn the signs and symptoms.
She stabbed her children, was successful at ending their lives, but when it was her turn, “she attempted suicide by trying to slit her wrist through a “deep wound in the left arm area of the wrist”. Note the word wound meaning singular. Why didn’t she not slit both wrists, or her throat, or hang herself.

They are called dead-beat dads. Too many of them have children and are irresponsible. They do not care about the children they fathered.
The Law must also deal with them accordingly. Some of them do not support their children.
The Canadian Law has a way of dealing with them. If they can be found, they are now taken to Court and their wages could be garnished for non-support. They could also be imprisoned.
As for visiting the children, the Law cannot force them to do. They may apply for parental custody and also partial custody.
In the long run, our patient God will mete out His fair and just recompense to them. Take heart.

Although we should not use mental illness as a reason for acquitting someone who has committed a crime, in this case it sounds like the DPP has sought expert advice on the proper treatment of this young lady. Of course she committed a terrible crime,however, a more terrible crime would be to send her to Stockfarm where the treatment of criminals with mental illness is inadequate. At least in Canada she will be treated in a civilized manner and will be on the road to rehabilitation.
What we need is a broader discussion of mental illness and how we can develop systems to treat people with severe mental illness, and the criminally insane. We also need more action to address the rehabilitation of criminals. Sending someone to prison without any treatment does nothing for them, but only increases their chances of returning to a life of crime.
My prayers are with this young lady as she tries to move on with her life and heal from her illness.
Her children have gone to heaven and are angels keeping us safe, until it is our time to move on to the other side.

Did you hear the story of a couple who left their baby daughter in a stairwell of a building in Toronto, in freezing weather some years ago? She was found and was handed over to the Children’s Aid Society. I heard that she is doing well. She may have been adopted by a couple in Toronto.
It was reported this weekend that they fled to Jamaica and that another baby was found dead, decomposed in a suitcase. The Jamaican authorities arrested them. Those people have a severe problem, placing the other baby in an area to die and murdering their other baby.
They are wanted in Canada. I am wondering if they will be extradited to Canada after the case is called in Jamaica. We will hear more through the Canadian Media which includes the ethnic Media in Toronto.
Something strange about this case is that I did not hear anything from the Canadian media regarding this woman /Canadian murdering her kids in a foreign country, if the government of Canada is involved with her coming back as a Canadian Citizen this would make headline, i smell a rat there man

Now we are hearing about Canadian authorities? why not before? did she travel under the care of some medical person? she was granted bail in December, left the state, and now January 9 the DPP is discontinuing the case. I have commented on this story. It is a shocking one that the DA authority allowed her out of the country while she was on bail. It appears to be a Kangaroo Court and authorities DA has and sadly so. They are some foolish authorities who will humiliate themselves and DA nationals.
Whatever the problems in Canada of all; whatever our problems, it makes us thank God that we reside in Canada. Murderers, if caught, do not get away that easy and worst yet the murder of two children.

If they know, they will surely notify the Canadian authorities about it, that someone who applied for assistance murdered her two children in DA, was granted bail and is back in Canada, one who never received a Court hearing and who did not paid for her crimes. Just think, how do you think they will take that? They will not sit on it and throw it under the rug. These are murders of two children. The government will investigate and want to know if she was released by DA authorities or if she skipped bail. Whoever is protecting her in Canada will pay a price too. Let us wait and see.

Right now the Canadian government is presently pursuing a case that some people from India who reside in Vancouver, Canada, be it that they are Canadian citizens murdered a relative who was a naturalized Canadian in India. The reason that she married a man whom they proclaimed was not of the same status as she was.
They even persecuted her husband, telling untrue stories about him and he was imprisoned for four years. They had ties to the corrupt Indian authorities. The poor man. Fortunately for him, so far, he was not murdered.
A Canadian Media, CTV, on its program W5 which is broadcasted on Saturday evenings at 7:00 pm has broadcasted more than once, the most recent one, approximately three Saturdays ago. I love to view this program as other similar programs. They are extremely informative, makes me wiser about Canadian current events and other happenings.
These murderers were still living in Canada. Well, the Canadian government has finally ordered their extradition to India. One is her very own mother.
Consider this, if the Canadian authorities know about these murders of Sarah Lyn’s children’s case, something will surely be done about her. Will she be able to be free in Canada? This is the big question.

The controversy over the decision of the DPP not to charge this woman because of her psychiatric condition illustrates how ignorant and ill informed a large segment of the population is about the condition of the so called mudurer. I applaud Mr. Pestina for standing his grounds in foregoing the prosecution option. This was the right thing to do. It is also the way a civilized society should deal with a severe mental illness. A much greater crime would have been committed had the woman been tried and made to serve a prison term for a crime committed under mental illness. That’s the kind of thing we expect in a jurisdiction like Texas where juvenile offenders and people with mental retardation are routinely executed. This is outrageous and Dominica should not bow to pressure for wanton prosecution of the mentally impaired. This kind of image would hurt our standing among civilized people.

This young lady obviously had some psychiatric issues and definitely needs professional help. My heart goes out to the father and family members who lost two innocent kids.
My issue with this case is the tremendous power placed in the hands of one person, the DPP, in deciding these issues. Recently, many of you sided with the DPP when he took issue with our Attorney General. While the DPP ignores sound advice given by our AG, he decides the outcome of a case based on the influence of a foreign government. The DPP needs to be relieved of his duties. He is incapable of carrying out the functions of his office.
The fate of this young lady should be decided by a jury of her peers or a judge. Her post partum depression should be taken into account during sentencing. The DPP can refuse to bring a case to trial based on lack of evidence. In my opinion the DPP is out of place to ignore the diagnosis of the psychiatrist and to take it upon himself to be judge, jury and executioner at the service of a foreign power. Which country does he owe his oath of allegiance to? Mr Pestaina must go!!

I frankly believe that this young lady is sick. I believe she is a threat to society and to herself. I do not know about her relatives, but I would not close my eyes with this woman around me, this is how dangerous i think she is.
I cannot comment on the DPP decision, as I am yet to understand the logic. I think she is fit enough to undergo trial, but I don’t think sending her to prison like that will help her in anyway. She should have been allowed to go through trial and then sentenced to a serious institution. But having her roam the streets like a loose canon in Canada is wrong, and someone is going to say tomorrow if I knew.

At times we let politics determine our decisions but is actually a case which should unify and bring people together to fight for one voice. Justice for Rachel and Sophia! If the psychiatrist found the lady fit to stand trial, it should be a criminal offence for the DPP not to prosecute. This not a case of teefing a can of milk by Astaphans. This is a double murder of two children by their mother, while they slept in their bed, and now I learnt that she tried to commit suicide. This is utter rubbish and it is time to demand answers.
The DPP should resign forthwith. He has no moral authority to hold that position anymore. The objective of the report was to see whether she is fit to stand trial. The expert declared she was and that was it. He had nothing else to determine. This man has made Dominica the laughing stalk of the world. He should be embarrassed to even give interview much less to say anything else.

Get this straight. If you are a Christian you should know what it entails to obtain God’s forgiveness. It is not merely saying to Him, God forgive me and she will be forgiven. She has committed a grave crime, the murder of two of her children who are obviously human beings. God also knows under what conditions she made the decision to murder them. As a parent, and believer I am happy for Mrs. Augustine, Sarah’s mom because had she been jailed, no one would have taken it as hard as she would.
On the other hand, it is not fear to see her just walk away like that with two murders. For the sake of justice I would have preferred if was prosecuted and because of her mental state, reduce or limit her jail time to no more than one year. That would send a stronger message to others.

You are oh so wrong. This one is an exception but wait, she has not yet got away with murder. When the Canadian authorities hear of it, she will not get away with murder. If she is deemed to be a mental case, she will be incarcerated in a mental institution.

A few questions i got . Did she jump bail or was sent to Canada. To me when you are on bail you must report to the authorities daily or weekly as agreed upon . This story is kind of fishy to me. Was there a second appearance at the court where it was decided that she should leave the country ? Or is it that because she appeared in canada and being a canadian citizen she is protected from foreign courts like ours just like a US citizen. Canadians feel that she should have remained in prison. When she was released, the public would not leave her alone. They did not want her in their vicinity in Quebec as well. They actually drove her away which is why she sought and received asylum in the Caribbean. The Caribbean government should have rejected her. For such a criminal, she should never have been protected and should have remained in prison.
A young lady from Stockfarm gave birth and threw the newborn into the pit toilet…..The child SURVIVED and is now living with someone ele….some years later in 2011 she is sent to jail, minus the time served.
Ms. Augustine stabs her children repeatedly, not to mention one was a 2 month old who probably died from the first stab wound, so the twenty something more were not necessary….the both children end up DEAD…..fast forward to 2012, she is in Canada under supposed “house arrest”. The Psychiatrist Benjamin stated that she was fit to stand trial. The DPP ignored it and formed his own opinion.
There are questions that psychiatrists will ask people. Based on their answers, they will determine if the person is really suffering from an illness such as a mental condition.
His decision was not a good one. He should really be asked to resign and charged accordingly for he did not conduct himself professionally and is incompetent. He chose to bypass what the Psychiatrist stated.

If Dominica does not have an adequate facility, it is time for the government to consider building one with all DA’s progress.

i am wondering if this woman, Karla Homolka, the Canadain murder who together with her husband paul bernado murdered her sister and her friend, she was jailed and released Karla Homolka pled guilty to manslaughter, and was sentenced to twelve years in prison. She was released on parole in July 2005 after the ‘Deal with the Devil’ plea bargain. Homolka’s release was and still is very contentious with Canadians as the videotapes of their crimes showed Karla Homolka to have understated her total involvement in the crimes.

Good try MOTS but there’s some misinformation in there. I am not going to write an epistle of my own, but just a couple points.
First of all, Ron Paul has not denied the racist rants in his news letter, The Ron Paul News Letter. He only denied having written all the articles.
Secondly, the Federal Reserve is not privately owned although private banke are an integral part of some committees. Members of the board of governors are nominated by the President and approved by the Senate. I agree that their operation is a bit complex.
Thirdly, the National Defense Authorization Act is a makeover of the Patriot Act crafted by George Bush. That’s why they have Gitmo. Obama fell into the Republicans trap of acting tough on terrorists.
Fourthly, US society was segregated long before there was a United States. The civil war was fought to abolish slavery but segregation continued long afterwards. I agree that Democrats were slave owners but so were Republicans. Lincoln, a Republican, was instrumental in the fight against slavery but the Democrats championed the fight for desegregation through the Civil Rights Act. Ask MLK Jr.
Finally, SOPA and PIPA are attempts to control internet piracy of intellectual property. If the Psychiatrist concluded in his report that she “is mentally fit to plead and answer the charges against her,” the case should have been allowed to continue despite what the Canadian authorities have to say. She should have been made to face whatever consequences in D/CA and then be sent on her merry way to Canada. That’s just my opinion.
I do not want to rush to judgment based on the incomplete information provided in this short article. But it seems clear that if this young lady was solely a citizen of Dominica (i.e., not a citizen of Canada, or presumably also of the US or the UK), and all the other circumstances were the same, she would have been “tried, very probably convicted, sent to jail for a length of time and waste away.” So it boils down to the fact that she will not be tried for very serious offenses because she’s a Canadian citizen. This does not seem right!!

We in Canada who read it especially on DNO were waiting the outcome of the verdict prior to taking any action. We thought that the Dominican authorities would deal with her accordingly. Now that we know that she is back in Canada and was out on bail, we can take further steps and inform them about it.

This is all well and good. The psychiatrist stated that she was fit to stand trial. DPP ignored it. She was out on bail. Her case was due to be called this month. Did she not take a plane and returned to Canada, not under Police escort? When she arrived in Canada was she escorted by the Canadian Police to her destination? Are the Canadian authorities really aware of her crimes? The woman is a murderer, whether sick or not.
I bet the airline which transported her to Canada had no clue about her murdering her two children and that she was out on bail. If it was known, they probably would not have allowed her to travel without Police escort for obvious reasons and for the protection of other airline passengers.
I am informing you that a few people in Dominica as well as her Dominican and Canadian relatives protected her and aided her to return to Canada.
How about the Dominican travel agency? Did they not know that she murdered her two children and allowed her to take a plane, unescorted by the Police authorities to Canada?
Some of them who aided her to return to Canada deliberately goofed and also need to be prosecuted.

The judge was the one who granted her bail in the first place…instead of holding on to her passport allowed her to leave the country and then the DPP decided not to prosecute her…
guys let me just tell u all that i saw sara who is my cousin up in canada. when she arrived she was in the custody of the canadian authorities. secondly she is being houses at a psychiatric center however they are more and i repeat more lenient meaning she has supervised outings, access to the internet, gym etc however has to be in the presence of a therapist or psychologist.although some of us may not agree with the decision she was legally extradited to Canada and believe it or not the canadian authorities are still going to look into the matter even if she is at this center because the kids are canadian citizens.I pray at the end of the day family or not that justice is served but at the same time she gets help also because she is a troubled young woman. and also for those of us who have known her way before she had any children would know that there were signs she was mentally disturbed however they were ignored. The Lord is the Judge at the end and we are in not place to compete with him as judges. her fate is in his hands

There’s a rumours circulating around indicating that the psychiatrist must have “gotten something” to allow the young lady to “walk”. I am not a friend of Dr. Griffin C. Benjamin and he knows that well however I will not stand idly by and allow such an untruth to be perpetuated. There is NO WAY he could have accepted anything to then write this in the conclusion of his report, “Augustine,alleged to have murdered her two children, “is mentally fit to plead and answer the charges against her”. He has every right to present a diagnosis as the prefessional here, to say that she was suffering with a particular mental condition is within reason.
How is this true if he stated she is fit to answer her charges.Meaning she can be put on trial, he did not let her walk, it was the judge’s decision.

Well Ms Augustine has mental problems but how can the prosecutor allowed this woman to leave Dominica after she murdered her two children. Mr Pestaina is acknowledging that Dominica Criminal Justice System do not have any facility to hold such prisoners so what are they doing with none criminals who have mental problems. Also why didn’t Mr Pestaina check with the Canadian authorities to make sure they would placed this lady in a mental institution. I am centain that if she killed her two children in Canada and she if found to be mentally fit to stand trial then she will be tried for murder. Mr Pestaina seems to dwell on the part of the report that said she suffered from “Post Partum Depression” but what he expect if she killed her two children and she attempted to commit suicide. Is Mr Pestaina saying that anyone who commit a murder can claim that they have mental problems and just walk away from any responsibility. We need to reform the system or was it presure from the Canadian Government which lead to this outcome.
