UPDATE: Shooting in Bellevue Chopin

There has been a  shooting in the community of Bellevue Chopin on Monday evening which left one man injured.

The police said the incident occurred around 7:00 pm.

Police say Kent Denise was shot in the thigh area during the incident.

The official police report said he was shot during an altercation with another man but some residents insist the incident occurred during a drive-by shooting.

He was rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital and admitted.

Investigations into the matter continue.

Yes-I, We read how we want and see what we want, not necessarily what is written. In this article our good commentators intepret:

“shooting in the community of Bellevue Chopin” as “live in Petite Savanne*

“shot in the thigh area” becomes
“man shoot de youte in him root” and
“that was set by his x-girlfriend.how he get shot in his private parts”

“he was shot during an altercation with another man but some residents insist the incident occurred during a drive-by shooting.” registers as, “Hmmmm bus stop thats interesting”

“Police say Kent Denise was shot in the thigh area” somehow triggers
“I hope my brother and his family who is Mr. Witnel Louis son from the West Coast of COULIBISTRIE and all other villagers are safe”

I READ NOT ONLYTHE NEWS, BUT THE VERY ENTERTAINING REACTIONS TO THE NEWS. We Dominicans are the greatest dramatists. Our listwe culture puts us in good stead to be novelists and playwrites. :)

Dominicans! You all are too dam hypocrite. When is to destroy each other by calling each other names thumbs up. When is to uplift each other in constructive ways for prayer and unity, thumbs down. God said, if a person want to be ignorant, let him be ignorant still. Every one wants change, but no one wants to do it the right way. Stay in your foolishness, just complain with no action and see where we go. Either we stay where we are, or put reverse gears. It seems, some people just like ‘BEFF’.

      January 8, 2013

      @ confused

Why do you have to judge, and condemn an ENTIRE nation as HYPOCRITE? This situation does not call for such extreme, negative anti-patriotic pronouncements. Dominica is yours too. Isn’t it hypocritical to be quoting God’s dictate on the one hand whilst in the same breath you are violating God’s dictate to “judge not”.

You are not only judging one person but an entire nation. Who gave you the self-riteous authority to condemn a nation? The distructive implication of you knee-jerk rantings, far outweighs any that could caused by a few passionate comments, others have made at specific situations

Maybe 6 shootings in 16 days is authority enough?
One young man at Tete Morne on 23 Dec., then three more at the Cove on christmas eve, another young fellow shot in the face in Portsmouth soon after and then yesterday a drive-by shooting at Bellevue. It is a miracle no one died so far. I understand “Understood’s” frustration and outburst. We have to do better than that. Why not have the police carry out raids on suspected holders of illicit guns for instance, or suspected dealers holding stock of drugs. Be pro-active and don’t give these fellows any moment’s rest. Keep the pressure on them, don’t give them an inch… and above all, don’t be afraid to tackle Mr. Big!

Its times like these I remeber the wise words from the head of the UWI Open Campus Dominica Dr. Francis Severin. He was the one who warned us about what society really is and how it will become. and for such a small state these crimes are not little crimes. I think his words made it clear that our country was becoming a criminal zone. its clear now with so much guns, he DIDNT LIE

      January 8, 2013

Jackie what a disgrace you’re to Dominica to even imagine Dominica is quickly becoming like St. Thomas, Shame on the authorities for what?

I live in Annas Retreat, I have seen no article be it in the Avis or Daialy news or elsewhere you say shame on the authorities for the over fifty plus murders committed per year for the past six years.

There is no shame on the authorities for the several thousands of ammunition that’s being discharged each old years night.

You know and all VI residents know people don’t want to attend Old Year Mignight Mass for that very reason. We all k1now that gun shots are being fired non-stop from 11.45 p.m. till 1.00 a.m. on the 1st.of January, so where is your SHAME?

    • Banan
      January 8, 2013

Couldn’t agree with you more. However, on yesterday’s blog there were strange comments about a young man who was sentence to 7 years and escaped from jail. Shouldn’t there be an outrage that he escaped after being found with a gun, who knows whether he has or has the ability to obtain more guns. The outrage was, he only had one gun. One gun is no less dangerous than a thousand guns. The sad thing is that the perpetrator of those crime use them all to inflict serious wound and even death.

Unless and until we all join our voices and condemn those crimes, society will have a huge debt to pay. Petty political positions will not solve this problem. Let’s all get together, leave out politics and our silly difference to fight those crimes.

Criminals should be under no illusion that society will not condone the use of firearms to commit crimes.

If you see something, if you hear something, them say something should be our motto.

I’m sorry to hear about that shooting. Hope he wasn’t the intended target. If he is the intended target and it was some criminal activity, well the rest is history.

I hope my brother who is one of Mr. Witnel Louis son and family are ok. And all the other villagers on a whole. I don’t know much about this village, but I bet is a very quiet village. I work part in the Medical field and know what crimes do to a family, city, state and country on a whole. It songs like Dominica is becoming like the WILD, WILD, WEST. Well we do not need that in Beautiful DOMINICA. Even though we do not live on the main land, we are part of if. When you have citizenship by paper, your birth palace is still on your passport.

Hope we love, love, love more, and if we see something we have to say something. We are all in this together. I also work part in schools, and know what crimes could do to the very young. Lord have mercy on us DOMINICANS.

If he isn’t innocent, well the rest is history. These type of things you hear in the Large Countries, not quiet and beautiful DOMINICA? This is like the ‘WILD, WILD, WEST. I don’t know much about that village, but I bet it is quiet.

We really need to pray for our country. If you see something, say something. Eventually these crimes are going to affect us. Even though we live in the country or overseas. This is still our place of birth. Let us love and look out for each other. Though matter you become a Citizen of another country by paper, on your passport, DOMINICA is still your place of birth. We are all in this together. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for each other. I work in part of the Medical field, and see what crime do to the entire family, city, state and country.
