Drugs will destroy your life – Judge to man caught with marijauna

A Fond Cole man was sentence to pay the court $450 after he was caught by police with 30 grams of marijuana.

Stephen Joseph, 20, appeared before Magistrate Ossie Lewis today at the Roseau Magistrate Court and pleaded guilty to the charges of possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

According to the facts of the case, police was on mobile patrol in Fond Cole when they spotted the defendant and others sitting on a step.

Officers approached Joseph and informed him that they suspected him of being in possession of an illegal substance.

When he was searched a clear plastic bag and brown paper bag was found in his left front pocket.

During the mitigation, the defendant told the court he bought the substance to smoke and not to sell.

In handing down the sentence magistrate Ossie Lewis considered that the defendant had no previous convictions and did not waste the court time in pleading guilty.

“Now is a fitting time for me to tell you to stop the habit because drugs will destroy your life,” said Magistrate Lewis in handing down the sentence.

This actually makes me really sad. Sure it’s not heroine or meth, but just let me tell you something. That is where it starts. Maybe one day you will get it through your mind based on mistakes and struggles. I can tell you my whole life struggle and when I was twelve, do you want to know the first drug I tried? Well it was Cannabis. I promised myself that would be all I would do. A few years later it went all the way to Crank. That is no where near the worst of it. The truth is I can tell you all day how bad drugs are but until you experience the pain and suffering yourself you will never know. -R.S.P Age 16

I am a law man..but when u have a crisis like what is going on right now in the world today with the no jobs and high bills,i see no reason for picking at the ones that has no other way off income, but trying what they know, that’s better than robbing, killing or just hating life and taking your own..officers have to do their job but create better ways to help the unemployed of Dominica than charging them a fine .now tell me how is he going to pay that fine, probation would have been better..that’s what i think..

The police in America use marijuana arrests to give young black men crimal records. so when theyre older and more serious they cant get jobs or hold political office. Marijuana use or possesion in public should incur a ticket, same with public drunkeness. it should not go on your record as a criminal offence. people dont die or generaly get hurt from smoking. its alcahol that killing people everyday. even cell phones killing more people than mary jane ever did, which is 0.

The rastas must stop promoting smoking,as this does not serve any spiritual purpose that they want to proclaim, this is a myth. The god they claim to worship is a man,the true and living GOD is a spirit being,no one has seen GOD,that’s why he asked to be worshipped in spirit.

The media has a mix conclusion on the use of marijuana, of course we know that according to the laws on the books it is a controlled substance, but we also know that there are other controlled substances that are equally dangerous to one’s health. The judge in this case have to litigate, the defendant has to comply until the region adopt the lifestyle of the netherlands.

i concur. nobody in the history of the world ever died from smoking mary jane. u not violent when u smoke u happy n relax or ideas flow into your mind. its best to smoke in private because at least you wont be paranoid. is not mary jane that make the smoker paranoid, its their circumstance. Alcahol is a thousand times worst than mary jane will ever be. remember not one recorded death from smoking but drinking kills thousands every day all over the world. Also a man smoking weed will not beat his wife but a drinker certainly would.

What does that have to do with a person caught with 30 grams of marijuana. Don’t make it sound like he had 30 kilograms.
