Elderly man stabbed to death in San Sauveur

An elderly man was stabbed to death in San Sauveur on Sunday evening, DNO was informed.

Details of the incident are still sketchy at this time, however, DNO was told that the man, whose name is Rogercien Laurent, was about 74 years old. According to information given to DNO by residents of the area, Laurent was travelling from the village of Good Hope to his home in Petite Soufriere, when the incident occurred.

Reports are that he was stabbed on the side of the road close to the Seventh Day Adventist Church building in San Sauveur.

DNO has also learned that another male resident of the community, Vivian Durand, had been stabbed earlier in the day, on Sunday. Durand was admitted to the Princess  Margaret Hospital with stab wounds to the arms and chest. Villagers say they suspect that both stabbings were done by the same individual.

DNO understands that a man from the community was taken into police custody following the stabbing of Laurent on Sunday evening.

DNO is following this developing story and will publish more information as it becomes available.

Two in one day and in a small village? Is this perpetrator deranged?
What did the man do that he was stabbed to death?
I hope the injured will recover in time.
My heartfelt sympathy to the departed’s family.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen!

Imagine that, eh? An elderly man stabbed; back in the day people used to protect and respect the elderly. Nowadays, the little THUGS they have running around calling youths do all kinds of things, commit all kinds of crimes. So you telling me that San Sauveur has a serial killer then? TWO people stabbed in one day and Dominica is the size of my palm, yet the “police” cannot find one individual to bring him/her to justice. What can a man of 74 years do that an animal should stab him?

I am convinced that allu watch too much American TV. Those little THUGS think they’re in the Bronx? I hate to drag politics int this, but, can’t allu PM do SOMETHING/ANYTHING about the level of violence ins such a small country? It must be nice to roam around with security while others get stabbed in their villages. I’m disgusted!

    • May 2, 2017

I guess the “police” don’t know how to improvise? If they could not drive, why not WALK, get a vep, ride a bicycle, RUN, swim, do ANYTHING to apprehend the killer. Instead they must have been in the station playing with their private parts from being so bored and LAZY. Those are the same THUGS– they’re just in uniform. There is NO reason why this gentleman died–NONE. What goes around comes around: dem police have grandparents, too.

It always bother me to hear that they the police cannot do anything because the vehicle is down. What happened to your legs? How large is the village that our elderly and citizens are not protected?

Up to the 90’s thats how the police serviced San Sauveur Good Hope areas. What happen to police these days? they can’t walk? They don’t have legs? What happen to the days when the Cpl/ Sgt in charthe ge of the station had authority to issue vouchers to private drivers to assist the police in times like these? Thats the problem in Dca too many excuses for inefficiency. Man like Roberts, Agustine, Bannis, charles and others use to walk to go do their work in these areas. I am not saying the police don’t need vehicles but police have to do what they need to do protect the public. Another failure to Carbon’s legacy….shameful!

This man life could have been saved if the police had a vehicle ? , in this day and age every police station should have some form of transportation available at there disposal , we are really backward sad to say we have a long way to go ,mr Cabon this is happening on your watch what a legacy you are creating , sitting in your air condition office has atrophied your critical thinking process part of your brain, sir I must say you have to go also.

more wood on police. police hands tied behind their backs with weights to their feet and pushed into the ocean and commanded to swim to shore. to be a police in this cursed place you have to learn to fly soucoyant, know things before it happen, read minds, be in multiple places at once, be able to raise the dead, work days on end with no sleep food water or even oxygen and perform more miracles than jesus himself. those are just basic requirements of being a police in DUMBinica. if you cant do any of those things then you are a very foolish person and should be executed at dawn. at some point society will learn to stop pressure police officers who are forced to work without the necessary tools and start applying the pressure where it needs to be applied. HINT: on the people who foolishly spend money to secure political power so that they can continue raping the country of its resources instead of equipping its only security force with the essentials.

You see, its good to know that some people know who to blame. But on the other hand when the opposition try to take lassie out of our aahveg eyes they say LL complaining too much.

This nation is already in the abyss and the politicians continue to do a disservice to the public by failing to provide something as simple as a mobilett for to every station. Pm incompetent, Police chief incompetent, Minister of justice incompetent, courts are corrupted, people are dying but still I heard them say; “LAYBAR KAR TWAVAYE!” May god have mercy on my people and open their eyes so they can see before its too late.

And this heartless thug see it fit to take his life. But he lived a better life than you ever will and he’s in a much better place than you will ever find yourself. His troubles are over, yours have just begun you coward.

I see able bodied men thanking whoever for ”my house ” when they should be working and able to get loans from a bank or credit union to help themselves . what this does is create and encourage dependence not only in this generation but future .one only need to drive around my village of wesley to see the number of idle young men doing things that are not only detrimental to themselves but their community and Dominica . then we have politician pretending to be preachers and preachers getting involved in politics.

Rayburn is always on DNO positing photos of new vehicles for police officers. It took the death of someone unfortunately, before this individual was apprehended by police. I guess culprit was on a stabbing and killing rampage in the village.
While Labor is busy talking about the “Grand Opening” for a foolish bridge, residents of that village are being stabbed to death and physically injured with no initial intervention by police officers. This happens when you spend all your time trying to fool the masses with cheap rum and cheesy political propaganda.
Let’s see how many police officers will be at the opening for this foolish bridge while residents in that Southern village were terrorized by a nut-job.
The sad part is, it will matter not in the end and the guilty party will be set free, just like all his other murderous cohorts who commit cold blooded murder and are later set free based on poor police investigation tactics and huge blunders from an inept Director of Public…

Dominica has gone down to the abyss under Roosevelt Skerrit, as officers are not motivated to do anything since they too are victims of corrupt regime. Right now I will not put my foot in this country, even if my loved one passes. This country sucks man under this corrupt leader

There is no excuse. Are they in the Police Force to merely get a pay cheque? They are employed to serve and protect. Whichever government is in power, they are obligated to fulfill their obligation the best of their ability.

Thank you for your comments. Much appreciated. In 2017, police officers were unable to come to the aid of two citizens, due to lack of a working vehicle, while the boys travel across the globe. Why should we even care about our homeland and its people?

Our society has sunk to the bottom of the abyss. We have no respect or regard for the sanctity of life. As a society, we should have respect for the aged. We are now living in decadence where dishonesty, lying, vulgarity, cursing, foul language and illegalities are hardly frowned upon anymore, these are now being accepted as the norm. So what do we expect to happen? Laws of the jungle and a dysfunctional society appear to have become the order of the day. This is a classic case of man’s inhumanity to man. Our society needs healing not division. We need to unite and harness our energy to extricate ourselves from these evils that are making our society ungovernable. Sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased.

Well u are so right. Because and what is worse is the BIG LIARS is paying so much for lying and they still continue with the chronic evil.

They trying to make everyone blame everyone else but them self rather than use their energy to haness positivity in the country. So I agree with u expect to say our country is being governed and properly too. Crime is on a low compear to the crime rate in 1998-2000 January.

And wen we tie crimes to politics it tend to create a foolish blame game dan to let people know they did wrong. Some of us condone it even wen we know it’s wrong.

But Dominica is blessed and we moving on to hire heights.

But I thing young ppl needs to deal with issues differently. Settle their scores right instead of fight.

My sympathise goes out to the family of both sides.

So when police officers, who are employees of the Commonwealth of Dominica are unable to properly perform their duties, due to lack of a working vehicle or tools required to perform their jobs satisfactorily, we should not question the government whatsoever, because after all, pre school children are responsible for this.
And you labeled me as “Stupid.”
Wow! I would like to know what is it that Labor has been feeding the masses that they are unable to differentiate night from day. If Skerrit tells them Dominica will send a man to the moon from Portsmouth next Saturday, they show up in droves and drink his Kool Aid.

You are so right. The decadence is alarming!!! people have no respect for other people’s space. Loud disgusting music – people come under your window at any hour of the night with loud vulgar music and they think there is nothing wrong with that. When you call the police, they laugh at you and say its a weekend mam; how loud is the music. It is sickening to live in this country – it has become too lawless!!!! Condolences to the family for your loss. Time is a healer and God is your guide.

While they may not be able to carry an arrested man on the motor cycle, they would be able to prevent him from hurting more people by using their weapon to stop and neutralize the threat, while waiting for a vehicle to transport him to the nearest police station.

Resident states NO VEHICLE TO CHECK REPORT. This is shameful not only should there be a vehicle a back up should be available at all times and what is more disgraceful is the way the country’s money is being thrown around . money for musicians , small business and the list goes on . No one should think that i am against providing help to the needy which should be done after looking into his or her situation, and what type of help is needed and this should be done by the social welfare department not by politicians looking for vote . looking at G I S you see houses being given to people who need housing but after the delivery what happens are they able to maintain it ? Should this person be given an apartment in a building maintained by taxpayers where he pays a small monthly rent?
