Family feud leads to hospitalization and arrest

A family feud in a Roseau North community has resulted in the hospitalization of  an elderly woman and the arrest of her daughter.

According to information reaching Dominica News Online, a woman and her mother from Upper Fond Cole were arguing about domestic matters for hours on Tuesday.

It is alleged that the woman attacked her mother, hitting her with a stone.

“That woman and her mother always in a tie up. All yesterday they were arguing. I don’t know what her mother told her but she hit the lady with a stone and she fell,” one eyewitness told DNO.

The eyewitness added that “blood was coming from her head and the lady arm was swollen. They called the ambulance for her and she was taken to the hospital. Then we called the police and they came to pick up the daughter”.

The police confirmed when contacted, that the young woman was in custody but had not yet been charged.

…SMFH. This is why God is the only with the rights to pass judgement. You all only look at 2 angles and pass judgement, some of u only look at 1. Look at everything and nothing before you are sure. And don’t think just im saying this i am judging you. Everyone is essentially they’re own child and parent. Anyone can do just about anything. Your limitations are what u make it. Before spewing more crap from your wicked minds, remember everyone is different. If they weren’t we wouldn’t have crime, law or the gray areas. :-|

    Proverbs 23: 13-14.
“Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. If you beat him with the rod you will save his soul from Sheol.”
“Sheol” is often translated as “hell,” but it has a more general meaning of death or the grave.

I look at my mother and the older she gets the more protective I become of her. I get mad at her when she wants to do things she does not have the strength to do . She is troublesome, yes…we would have little arguements here and there over what? her stubborness. I love her and the last thing I want to hear or see is something bad happening to her. Each day I ask the good Lord to give her health and strength because I want her here with me for a longer while. We have only one mother. No-one can replace her no matter what. That lady better find herself at the foot of her mother’s bed and plead for forgiveness

  19. January 18, 2012

The news article says: “That woman and her mother always in a tie up”

So why is everyone talking as if this conflict was between a small child and her mother? That is completely different–the reason why I believe Tiny has crowded this blog with her comments.

Tiny you are sounding like someone who suffered abuse from your parents as a child. I need to let you know that forgiveness is letting go of the pain.

In other words the longer you continue with that unforgiving attitude the longer you are holding on to the wound–the reason for your pain.

Try forgiveness and you discover that mental healing–the wound and the pain you are now experiencing– is possible. You will never forget who inflicted your wound, but once the pain is gone, it just won’t matter anymore.

Now, I am not saying that we should use physical abuse against our own mother and father, but as an adult I need to respect my parents just as I need them to respect me.

Unfortunately, some parents never think of their children as people with their own minds and who have feelings like themselves–regardless of the age.

I am still shaking my head each time I remember that 3 years ago, when I was in Dominica, I was at my brother’s Domino shark and I ended up in a conversation with one of my school boyfriends–we are the same age and grown people.

My father was there too, and he decided that he did not approve of me talking with my friend and he called me to a side with his objection.

I had no desire to be rude to my father’s behaviour, because I knew that he was simply trying to protect me as his daughter–but there was no need for him to do that. I am a grown woman with a mind of my own!

But with a lot of parents and children their attitude and conducts demonstrates the lack of Love in them; and without Love our whole existence is full of chaos.

May we call for the Grace of God, His blessings of Love–especially for the abundance of patience and self-control, as often as we remember to do so.

Girl my advice to you is, ‘Go and beg your mother for forgiveness’. If you don’t, then you have brought a curse upon yourself. To all of us reading these comments, let us NEVER NEVER NEVER raise hands on our parents. No matter how difficult it may seem(even if we are provoked) let us ‘WALK AWAY’.

      @ tiny

What you are insinuating is that you were an abused child, as it is called today.
Do you know what is contained in the Bible? “Spare the rod, spoil the child.” A little beating is good for them, not to injure them or they should be punished.
Some people cannot differentiate between parents disciplining their children, sometimes rude and wayward ones and child abuse.
Many of us children were beaten, be it for something minute, not that we were bad children but that the parents were strict and this was their manner of disciplining them. How many of them are today the worst for it? Many have forgotten those years since they were childhood years. Why don’t you? Be careful not to go around with a bitter feeling about your parents. It will do you no good. Be happy.
      God’s blessing, love and peace.

I think you deserved everyone of those blows… if the ignorance u r spewing is any indidcation of your personality. A parent has a right to discipline their child… Simply hitting a child cannot be abuse..WE love quoting the bible to validate our ignorance but what about the verse that says “spare the rod and spoild the child” . Its because of people like you why our society is the way it has turned out today..I have learnt to appreciate every lick, box, tump and electric wire because it molded me into a strong, confident and succesful woman. We need to keep strong hands on our kids and guide them sternly in the right direction there are too many outside influences and once we allow them to go astray there is no way we can bring them back..BEAT THEM I SAY!! just done ABUSE them

      • Justice and Truth
        January 18, 2012

        @ tiny

Today, children who can talk and walk should not have to stay in an abusive situation at home. If the authorities are aware of that, they could take them away from the home. DA has such a home for abused children.
An adult child could walk away from the situation. She was wrong to hit her mother and injure her. She could have killed her. Since the mother was injured on her head, she could get sick and who knows even die from the injury. I do think that both of them are in need of counselling.

all now i am away from my mother and i just wish i had the privilege to be with her every day of my life. girl no matter what you do for your mother in life it can never sum up to what she did for you and the love that she has for you regardless of your situation. NEVER

      • January 18, 2012

        @laChica

You have spoken my exact sentiment here.

I have been living away from my mother and my whole family for more than thirty years now. And right now I just wish that I could be with her, my dad, and the others everyday. But I must wait for God’s plan to be fulfllled in my Life.

I don’t know what could cause mother or father and child to become so angry with each other–especially if they are both adults–even to the point of physical abuse that has even caused death in the past.

But it is obvious to us, when God is not present in the lives of others around us; for God does not conduct anger, quarrels, and fights that turns into physical abuse for example.

For that reason we should constantly be questioning our own state of mind and our way of existence, by which we can make certain that we are connected to God through conscience.

For without the guidance of God by our faith and the power of His Holy Spirit, nothing will work; and we are heading to damnation and the pit of eternal darkness. We don’t have to end up that way. It is our choice.

  32. ProudDominicanAbroud
    January 18, 2012

This is a prime example of non controllable anger. I as well as many may not know of the events that happened prior to the day of arguing and fight, but in no way should a child take it that far. I am not stating the mother is right in any way, because some parents do need to learn how to talk to their kids, how to trust them more and how to learn to let go sometimes. Some do need to understand that if one way isn’t’ working when talking to the child, then try another approach. Anything that would get that child to understand, but violence is not the answer. I do believe in parents using a belt but only to an extent. Not to abuse the child or create memories that leave emotional scars. With that said, I do believe that young lady should have walked away from her parent. It doesn’t matter how rude it is to walk away, it is better than ending this way. It’s also better to help both individuals calm the heck down. I cannot look at my mother and do such things, regardless of what she has done to me. At the end of the day, I still would have to answer to god. This is bad, and we need programs to provide help for such disrupted homes in Dominica. Some may not like the idea, but it just might help many others.

It is a shame in Dominica, and a disgarce on those young women part and have no respect for themselves and just want things and money, and hoarding peoples husbands. They both are doomed to hell. she’s only doing what she has been taught…. what has been done to her in the past…hey kids out there…you are not supposed to to be beaten with belts and branches…you are not supposed to be slapped in the face by your parent…..no one deserve that type of abuse not even an animal….that is not disciple and it is not appropriate punishment …..it is abuse…and if your parent abuse you in such manner….call the appropriate authorities….don’t relent…keep going to the cops every time your are abused….this has got to stop

I’ve read some of you post and you are not giving any positive remarks here. You seem to be a very bitter person and all you care about is retaliation. Hope you’re not a parent or plan on having children. It’s people like you that has the world the way it is now and stop making everything look like abuse. I was slapped and given one or two strokes with a belt by my parents and I’m a very happy person.

Parents, do not anger your children, but rear them in the discipline and in the teaching of Our Lord

Fathers, don’t make your children bitter about life. Instead, bring them up in Christian discipline and instruction

And you, fathers, do not irritate your children, but bring them up tenderly with true Christian training and advice

As bad as the argument may be or how much ur mother provoke u. hitting her is the last thing that should be on your mind..
That’s one person u should never lay your hands on!!
The best thing for this young lady to do is ask her mother to forgive her and then ask God for forgiveness..

Well tiny…reading from your posts you were obviously abused as a child..physically, verbally, emotionally….maybe more. i strongly recommend intense counseling. It will help you. You seem to be a very bitter person because of the abuse.

Tiny, If you have any children, don’t be suprised to get the same treatment. Children live by example, please be a good example to your child, let them learn and understand that it is better and wiser to walk away from certain situations, and to get help in situations like this, and don’t tell me the daughter could not seek help in this day and age. Raising her hand on her mother displays an ungrateful child with no love, respect and honor for her parents and the Lord. Go seek help girl, you really need it. It is true that we have some bad parents, but let God punish them in his own way, he did not live it for you to do. The bible say whatsoever a man soweth that shall he reap. If she had no love for you she would have done with your @&$$ since in the womb, remember that. Personally, and finally, there is no reason under the sun that a child is supposed to beat her/his parents, NON WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!

never raise your hand on a child past the age of 7 no matter hoe trouble some they may be…..you spank a a child to keep away form danger….you spank a child who bites and hits other kids…for temper tantrum etc… and be careful spanking could lead to beatings and abuse

@ Tiny, it seems you have no lack of understanding of the term mother and no understanding of the term “SELF RESPECT”. One who respects himself or herself would never say the thing you are stating. If you are on the post to be ignorant and use your mind like a damn fool then I think you may be in the wrong area. God forbid you ever raised your hands on your mother, that would explain why the devil is in you right now writing such comments. Grow up!

      @ mouth of the..

If she asks God for forgiveness with a humble and contrite heart, she will also have to make penance and sacrifice for her to be forgiven. She should also ask her mother for forgiveness. She should not go through life hating her mother. Only then could God forgive her.
