Fifth Marigot Credit Union robber makes court appearance

Iam Massicot, the fifth person allegedly to have robbed the Marigot Credit Union, made his first court appearance on Monday.

Massicot had been a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital suffering from a gun shot wound he reportedly suffered during a shootout with the police during the daring robbery which occurred on March 9, 2012.

He appeared in a Roseau court along with his alleged co-conspirators Mitchel Joseph, Jamie Andrew, Prinston George and Michel Azille. All are from the town of Portsmouth.

They were charged with attempted murder on Corporal Boycott Yankey, attempted murder on Inspector Oliver Frederick, attempted murder on Corporal Hans Francis, aggravated burglary with the use of firearms on the Marigot Credit Union, conspiracy to possess 9 rounds of 9-mm ammunition, conspiracy to possess one 28” gauge shot gun with intent to endanger lives, conspiracy to possess one sub-machine gun magazine with intent to endanger life, and robbery of $36, 851.45 from the Marigot Credit Union.

Charges laid before the four men while Massicot was in hospital were all dropped as the above charges were read.

The men were not allowed to enter a plea as the charges are indictable offenses.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that investigations in the incident are still ongoing, the nature of crime, some of the firearms and money from the robbery are still missing and the men were on bail for other offenses when the robbery took place.

Massicot, who is from Paix Bouche, is represented by Zena Dyer while the other men are represented by Wayne Norde.

Preliminary  inquiries into the matter have been  set for June 13 at the Marigot Magistrate’s Court.

THAT IS WHY THERE ARE LAWYERS WHO PROSECUTE AND LAWYERS WHO DEFEND.IT IS UP TO THE PROSECUTION TO PRESENT A STRONG CASE.THE DEFENCE LAWYERS WORK IN THE INTEREST OF THEIR CLIENTS AND BY EXTENSION THEMSELVES.COMMON PEOPLE IF YOU WERE A LAWYER WOULDNT YOU WANT TO EXEL IN WHAT U DID?HMMMM I KNOW I WOULD.

    April 17, 2012

In the interest of Dominica especially with what has been going on, both Zinna Dyer and Wayne Dyer should tell these guys that they cannot represent them due to strong evidence against them.
if the others are questionable, definitely not so with Iam since he was shot on the scene.
I know lawyers want to make their money and are proffessionals but for the sake of Dominica and our new level of crime, all lawyers should take a decision not to defend them.

  15. Justice and Truth
    April 16, 2012

The type of crime they committed, they should not be granted bail. For young people they are already hard core criminals. They have put their family to shame. What has caused them to have such a hard heart? They may spend the rest of their lives incarcerated. Is there any hope for their rehabilitation?

    • Yes Fada!
      April 17, 2012

I believe they were the ones involved in many of the other robberies and attacks, if not all. Do you know they had a list? The next hit, as their list suggested, would’ve been Cabrits Agencies in Portsmouth, who transacts business for LIME, FedEx, JIIC and MoneyGram…These giys were on a roll! :-|

    • Justice and Truth
      April 16, 2012

      @sphynx

It is so sad. These days they do not go for small amounts of money but exorbitant amounts and with guns. The reason for having guns is the intention is there to murder if anyone stands in their way and inhibits them. These are dangerous criminals.
This is not all. God knows who they are and saw them. People do not go about harming others, stealing and such exorbitant sums of money and they will get away with it forever. Consider if they do not repent on earth, worship God, make penance and restitution what is waiting for them in eternity.

One day, one day “canka day”. those lawyers especialy the female duet, will meet those bastards face to face, not becasue they brought them a job for plenty money, but really because the criminals came to get plenty of money and perhaps more from them. It cannot be that these lawyers are immune to the results of the activities of these criminals on society to rush to their defense at every turn, whilst the society is falling apart.

    • Dee Wee Fwet!
      April 16, 2012

So, if i understand you correctly are you saying that lawers go to school, attain a degree and are expected to go hungry until they find a case that satisfies the general expecation of soceity? You are under a bad rock and you need to come out. lol

      April 17, 2012

Only in Dominica do people make a job personal. These lawyers are doing their job. They have a business to run and a family to feed. Maybe the state needs to hire them to defend their case against the accused.

But de lawyer that was his MO in the early 80’s and 90’s. All time you hold those criminals he was their defense lawyer. They were even his bodygaurds all around Roseau. Before police pinch one he would be in perliss station behind charge room walking and postulating. Why all you forget that? I never understood how this man was so deeply in tie with these low lives. Even their vehicle that used to get bail. Dominicans go back to the records and see who got arrested, bailed, case dragged, then just disappear on the books and who walking free, presumed dead, or washed up dead years later. All that is for a time! Now he find he back to his old tricks but just a different set of clients and criminality to defend. One thing I know boowoe doh have face so tanto tanto for who defending them. Yes you are a lawyer but magwaysah, work a plea deal at the very least, but stop trying to manipulate the court with silly tactics.

So a lawyer is not supposed to represent someone who you THINK is gulity? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? It only applies if you find youself or a family member arrested by the police?

I mean, if the person was on his bed sleeping and police came for him then yes you can get a lawyer to try to prove you innocence. But not when you were caught red handed. he’s still innocent?

“Charges laid before the four men while Massicot was in hospital were all dropped…” WHAT? Please tell me this is a typo, please tell me that’s what it is. Lots of profits (by way of guns/ammunition) coming in from the docks in Roseau…

    • u nt serious
      April 16, 2012

padner read and understand the article before u issue any idiotic statements.that is plain and simple english>>the charges were not dropped.they are simply sayin that while the individual was hospitalized the charges were read to his crew.(in his absence)

    • Man in Dominica
      April 16, 2012

It sounds like the four were charged before, but were recharged again now that the fifth suspect was in court with them, but I agree the article isn’t very clear on that.

    • Correction
      April 16, 2012

Read properly, the previous charges were dropped and they were charged with new ones.. i guess is the way the article is written.

They simply dropped the previous charges in order to issue them with new ones, worse ones at that, none for the Magistrate court as was previously charged.

      • Justice and Truth
        April 16, 2012

        @ Correction

The charges were upgraded to more serious ones. This is not unusual after further investigation.

    • Informant
      April 17, 2012

The new charges are most detailed and specific so it would make no sense to keep the previous, more vague charges. So it is not that they are getting away with anything.

And hey, while I appreciate the attempts at others to explain, I believe “Rastafari” was doing the right thing to ask for an explanation if he/she did not understand. The structure of the sentence does not lend itself to easy understanding unless you have a little understanding of the law.

    • Justice and Truth

      @ Bob

Massicot is a good name and is familiar to me. I knew someone whose last name is Massicot. This was years ago when I resided in DA and was a student at the CHS. He either attended the DGS or St. Mary’s Academy then. I am certain he visited my parents home and was a friend of my older brothers.
My older brothers and sisters knew him. He was a decent person and very nice. I wonder where he is today.
This young man may be a member of that family; a nephew or cousin. I am certain that with the same surname they are related.
It is sad that some of those young men go astray and commit such atrocities. What a waste of their God-given precious allotted time. May they be rehabilitated. May God assist them.
