Chief Fisheries Officer Andrew Magloire has agreed to pay a bail sum of $1,000 for a juvenile, and accept him into his home to prevent him from getting into further trouble.
“Really and truly Your Worship, I don’t know where he lives. As of now, he’ll stay with me,” Magloire told Magistrate Gloria Augustus at court earlier today.
The 16-year-old male was charged with theft of a bicycle valued at $400. The act occurred in Colihaut.
“You heard Mr. Magloire say he will take you in, so if you not interested say so,” Magistrate Augustus said to the juvenile, to which he replied “I interested Mam.”
Magistrate Augustus, who is familiar with the young man, said his parents are dead and his stepmother has given up on him.
However, Magloire reassured the court that he would provide shelter for the accused. “The fact of the matter is he will stay at home with me. He will come to the fisheries with me every day, he will leave with me every day,” he added.
“I sent to call him how many times,” Augustus – a Juveniles’ Court magistrate – told the police prosecutor.
A stern warning was directed to the 16-year-old. “When you on bail don’t go looking for trouble … If you getting into any trouble, don’t call me again when you see me,” Augustus advised the accused.
According to Magloire, he knows the young man through his father. “I know him because of his father, and problems we’ve had in the past,” Magloire told the court today.

Domimica is indeed blessed. Well done Mr Magloire, I think the big bro sis or aunty uncle organization would really help to curb crime in our youths, I am gonna try it in my community Grandbay… I do ask others to join.
Dear editor,
Is this not the Effects of disenfranchiesd youth.
Can the editor find the report of the scientific study done on the effects of the quarry on the colihuat community?
Yes a Fishing and Agricultural village that has been destroyed.
Andrew, this is typical of you – a man of few words and big in action (and love). I hope some of us cn take a page from your book.
There are countless untold stories like this in dominica and elsewhere around the world, of well meaning people taking a kid under their belt and nurturing him until his brain chemistry gets the full connection between act and consequences. It is no wonder that young men are recruited more readily for the armed forces, not solely for their youth but because they take orders and act in a way that does not permit them to question the consequences too closely, because the brain of a teenager as it pertains to judgement is not fully formed until 21 years or so.Kudos to all who reach out.
THANK YOU SIR, YOU;RE NOT ONLY A FISHERMAN OF FISH,BUT AS THE LORD SAID” A FISHER OF MEN”. MY PRAYER IS THAT I HOPE THAT YOUNG MAN WILL LEARN FROM YOU, AND ONE DAY HELP ANOTHER PERSON WHEN THEY ARE IN NEED OF HIS HELP. THANKS FOR CARING FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE IN DOMINICA ,YOU MAKE ME PROUD TO SAY I’M A DOMINICAN.
CONGRATS SIR! THATS HOW ITS DONE. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.

great job Andrew……I hope you can save this one. God bless you and give you the grace to deal with whatever comes.
Alrighty, your idea is very good. When the organization is formed, we in the diaspora and those in Dominica who can help should donate to keep it moving. Please keep us informed through DNO.
Kudos to you Mr Magloire. That a very fine gesture and I applaud you since those are the things that the Heavenly Father would like us to do – Show Love not in words but in deeds and actions.
Well done Mr. Magloire. I always say some of these kids just need someone to talk to, someone to listen to them. I just hope that he does not disappoint you.
MR. MAGLOIRE I APPLAUD YOUR BRAVERY MOST OF US TALK THE TALK BUT YOU WALKING THE WALK HATS OFF TO YOU
Absolutely fantastic Mr. Magloire!
Your stock has just gone up man….
Kudos to you.
Hearts off to you Mr. Magloire. I know you from the street and at the fisheries dept at the Roseau by not personally. Remember your reward is in hheaven and not on this earth. ‘WHATSOEVER YOU DO UNTO MY BROTHER YOU DO UNTO ME’ saith the Lord
I hope some other capable person could see this and follow ur footsteps.
Well done Magloire….
What a great news item to end the old year and start a new. This shows that we are all capable of making a difference individually. Congrats Mr. Magloire, your action speaks louder than words.
Well thiis is a very good and generous act done by Mr. Magloire. I just pray that this young man won’t disappoint him and all those who are supportive of this gesture of love and concern and may be thinking of doing like wise for our young ppl. Well done Mr. Magloire.
Mr Magloire is a senoir officer of the Fisheries Division to direct and inform our fishermen/women the ways to catch fish. It is with grateful gratitude that I say to him, that he is not only a man of fish,
but a FISHER OF MEN. I salute you for your effort which I hope will be rewarded by this young man in considering that with you in your public position will be an asset for his future development
That’s a great gesture on Mr. Magloire’s part. I wonder if we couldn’t start some Big Brother/Big Sister program in D.A? It would be worth looking into.
I hope Magloire can help him, a lot of our young men just need someone to show care and concern and give a listening ear. The young men of Dominica are crying out for attention, they just don’t know how best to cry so it is manifested through violent acts and crime
