Fond Cole man to pay for damaging man’s vehicle with stones

Dillon Samuel is in trouble with the law after pelting stones in the Fond Cole public road and damaging the vehicle of another man.

Samuel appeared before Magistrate Candia George at a Roseau Magistrate Court Thursday morning where he pleaded guilty to malicious damage and throwing of missiles.

The Fond Cole man was sentenced by the court to pay $1950 in compensation to Stephen M of the same community for breaking the back windscreen of the complainant’s Toyota car. Samuel will also pay $600 by August month-end or spend three months for the act of throwing the missiles in a public place.

According to the facts of the case from police, the incident happened on June 6.  Police met the defendant on June 22 in Fond Cole and questioned him.

“Officer I don’t know nothing about that,” the defendant reportedly said. But  the defendant later admitted to the crime after further investigations.

“I am really sorry,” the defendant, who was not represented by a lawyer, told Magistrate George during his plea of mitigation.

In handing down the sentence, Magistrate George considered that the defendant pleaded guilty and did not waste the court’s time.
