Police PRO Inspector John Carbon has confirmed that lawmen from Grand Bay are investigating a case of ‘alleged infanticide’ in the south of the island.
He said the incident occurred on January 13, 2013 at Stowe Estate.
Inspector Carbon said About 9 am on the said day a new-born baby’s body was found in the bush in the vicinity of a home.
He said the baby’s body was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where it was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner. It was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital mortuary pending a post mortem examination.
Investigations are continuing.
Sources told Dominica News Online that a 17-year-old, who gave birth to the child, has also been taken to the hospital for treatment and is assisting in the investigation.
It is also reported that the baby was born premature at seven months and was found with stab wounds.
That is so sad we just have to pray for them and our family don’t say to much mybe we do have something hidden in our closet.”Repect”

The baby was born prematurely (adverb), the baby was premature (adjective). Post-natal depression is not coincident with the birth of the infant. That excuse is contrived. (As are all excuses) It is not a reason. Thirdly, the baby is dead, believe me. It is not alive somewhere. The devil said, “Thou shalt not surely die”. That is still a lie. first of all dno you need to get your facts straight! the police never said the child had stab wounds or that it was pre mature. it was A stab wound! and with all these comments please know the facts behind the story before you comment. this child did not start living at stowe till october. and she is only the relative of the people at stowe. this is one young girl who left CBSS with no diploma and was offered a second chance at life by these people. she was enrolled at PCSS by her guardians, unknowing to them that the child was pregnant. these people were like a saving breath to the child. and knowing these people, had she informed them she was pregnant, she would been able to have her child and continue her schooling. the poor lady at 63 years old had to be hospitalised after this incident. this child had found a home. a real home and her baby would have been gladly welcomed as well, while she continues her education!

Listen up people. Lets not jump the gun. We have no idea what exactly happened. For those of us who are not that educted will rush to the conclusion that this girl in an evil person to kill her child. And for those who THINK they know they will claim Postnatal Depression.
First of all not all persons who kill their kids suffer from post natal depression. Secondoly post natal depression does occur in many women. We have to understand that is is a mental problem that can be corrected by medication and conselling.
However if an idividual was in her correct state of mind when the killing happend then there is your murder case.
Pregnancy is a very traumatic experience for an adult woman so one can only imagine how this trauma might be quadrupled in the case of a young girl!! Legally, psychologically and emotionally this 17 year old girl is a child. The likelihood is that she may have been impregnated when she was actually 16 years old. Bearing in mind that the legal age of consent for sexual activity is 16 years that means she was a victim of statutory rape. This teenager should be held accountable for her actions and counseled but any adult who was in sexual contact with her is the responsible party in this tragedy.

At seven moths the baby is well formed. My son was born premature at 6 months and he survived. He is almost 9yrs old and doing beautifully. I know children who were born prematurely at 7 months and they are doing so well.

Domincan its always easy for people to open there mouth and talk when they not in your situation. What if the child never received any love from the child father or were to scared to tell her parents or guardians about her situation and only had to deal with the situation all by herself. She could have gone into a very depressing stage, that lead her to commit this act. It could be very hard for someone in this situation, so people don’t be too quick to judge there are alot of people hurting out there and we never know. So just keep praying more than before. The coming of Christ is sooner than we believes.

Again, you are correct that young people’s actions are not always an accurate reflection of their upbringing since their peers can influence them into doing things they’ve been warned against. So parents are not always to be blamed.
Further, with so little information, we do not know exactly what took place and as such we can’t blame the young lady prematurely.

DNO simply said that Grand Bay Police were investigating. Nowhere did it say that the incident occured in Grand Bay. Grand Bay Police Station is responsible for the whole of the south from Tete Morne across to Stowe and Bagatelle, Fond St. Jean and even, I believe, Petite Savanne.

We really do not know the circumstances, but since the mother is in the hospital it is possible that she tried to commit suicide, or someone else committed the crime.
My opinion, if one has gone that far into a pregnancy, after the child is born the worse part, which is labor, is already over that child should be safe from all ill intentions.

Sometimes the girls do not tell exactly when they become pregnant causing doctors to assume premature births. However, a child born at seven (7) months still has 100% at survival.
We do not know yet who committed the crime, but yes we can blame the 17 year old if in fact she did that because below the age of consent is NOT a factor in this case. The baby was born.

Read the DNO report properly and you will see that the baby was not 7 months premature but “born premature at seven months” i.e. the baby was seven monts old whenit was born (…and died!)

To those who are questioning premature of 7 months, this means that the baby was born from its mother’s womb at seven months instead of the common 9 months duration of pregnancy. Many babies are born at that age from their mother’s womb, but they survive and grow to be adults with their own families. My cousin is one of them.
The story said “born premature, at seven months”. It did not say “seven months premature” since that would be a two-month old fetus.
