Police in Guadeloupe have arrested and are questioning a Dominican who they suspect is the main culprit in a series of rapes on the French island.
The French newspaper France-Antilles reports the suspect is a 19-year-old living in Abymes who the police believe raped three women and attempted to rape an 11-year-old.
The name of the suspect was not released by the police.
The newspaper said the victims were robbed before they were raped.
The French police said the first rape incident took place in February with two more in less than one week in April.
In most cases the perpetrator hid his identity and threatened his victims with a knife. Most of the rapes took place within the parameters of Pointe-a-Pitre.
Police think there are other victims and are appealing to them to come forward.
The Dominican has been described as ‘slim, of medium size, with braided hair and with marks on the face.’
