Haitian male in court for wounding sister with plate of food

A Haitian male has been bailed on his own recognizance after wounding his sister with a plate on her nose.

Frisman Jean appeared at the Roseau Magistrate’s Court this morning after wounding Marie Mitchel when he pelted his plate of food at her during an argument at about 8 p.m. on Sunday. The incident occurred at his residence on King George the V Street.

According to the facts presented by Chief Prosecutor, Police Inspector Claude Weekes, the incident occurred following an argument between the siblings about the late arrival of their children who were out earlier that day.

The defendant shares his home with his wife, children, and the complainant and her children, according to the court.

The police prosecutor said that Constable E. Matthew, who was detailed to investigate the matter, saw blood drip from the complainant’s nose after she received the blow to the bridge of her nose.

Mitchel was present in court and was seen wearing a plaster which covered her nose.

When confronted by Constable E.  Matthew, following a report of the crime, the defendant told the police that he didn’t mean to hurt his sister.

He was released on a $2,000 self bail until Friday when he is due to return to court for sentencing.  At that hearing, the details of the complainant’s injuries will be disclosed.
