Cyrille Valmond of Mahaut River has until July 31, 2013 to pay a fine of over $20,000 on drug charges after he was arrested and pleaded guilty to the offence at the magistrate’s court in Roseau.
In an operation the police say they uprooted 402 tress of marijuana on February 28, 2013 and also confiscated marijuana seeds.
Valmond was arrested on that matter.
He was charged with possession of drugs and was fined $2,000 in default faces 7 months in jail.
On the charged of cultivation, he was slapped with $20,000 in default one year in jail.
In another drugs matter Ian Bedminister, who is presently on bail for an alleged charge of kidnapping, was arrested by the police for possession of cannabis to which he pleaded guilty and fined $1,000.
The police had searched a car in which he was driving and found a small quantity of the illegal drugs.
Bedminister was also charged for driving an unlicensed and uninsured motor vehicle and also driving without a valid driver’s license.
He was fined $400, $300 and $300 respectively for the offenses.
The fines are to be paid within 3 weeks in or default 14 months in jail.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Claude Weekes, prosecuted the matter on behalf of the state.

If the State cannot get them to pay the fines, then let them pay the State with hard labour. Enough community clean up is necessary in Roseau and all round the island. They should not be allowed free food.
valmond ain’t gonna pay over 20,000.00 he well want that kind of money to live nice in this hard economy times. my point take ur jail.
20,000 dollars, or 1 year. Give me the year. Not the first and definitly not the last.
Not only driving without road tax, insurance or valid license. Too may vehicles are in an uroadworthy condition. How did they possibly pass police inspection? Inland Revenue has all vehicle registration numbers on record. They also know, which of these numbers are not up to date with road tax & insurance. Simple solution. Give them three months to fix this and after that confiscate the vehicles that have not complied.
Time to get serious and for IR to work together with the police.
