Investigations going “smoothly” into police brutality allegations – Weekes

There is optimism for a tribunal to start against the police constable implicated in brutality accusations in Grand Bay some weeks ago,  police spokesman Claude Weekes has said.

“Things are going smoothly,” Weekes said, adding that “investigations against police officers or military men are different from that of civilians”.

Weekes said the investigations have not yet been sanctioned by the commissioner of police, who will deliberate on whether or not a tribunal is warranted. He explained that the investigations, which are being conducted by corporals assigned to the case, would look to establish the legitimacy of the allegation. A report will then be compiled and placed before the commissioner who will then decide on the way forward.

Should the Commissioner give the green light, the matter would go before a tribunal, which will be chaired by a top ranking officer or a magistrate, Weekes added.

The police officer in question will be entitled to a lawyer and will be prosecuted by a police prosecutor. He will be informed of the proceedings via correspondence from the commissioner.

    It’s over!
“Weekes said the investigations have not yet been sanctioned by the commissioner of police”.
    Clear indication of stalling.
Either way, I hope the officer learns something from this, that it could have been worse for him just for not thinking; and casting a bad light on good fellow officers that do their jobs well to – Protect and serve.

@DBA: It has happened, where people are behaving like “normal, constructive citizens & get ”roughed” up by the police.” I hope you inform Dno, if it ever happens to you, your friends or your family, so i can comment.

What does politics have to do with it? Let me start by saying to “Jane” whomever you are i agree with you 10000% you made my point so i will atttempt to remind all those concern that inspite of all what have been said no need to revisit those issues again. My concern as a Dominican why in hell do we have for too long the position of the commissioner and deputy commissioner as ACTING position?? what kind of message does that send to the individuals in those positions and the rank and file of our beloved police force. In my humble opinion i think the message is yes we love you but we do not trust you ie to both individuals to confirm you and that`s sad, to say the least! on the contary is it a questions of money? is it playing politics as usual? and as we all know regardless of what they say politics and ploicing does not mix in so far as having our police force as a puppet force. What is wrong with having mr Carette and MR HOBS JNObaptiste confirmed i want some one to tell me please,When the opposition choose to stay out of the house of assembly we were told they were holding off the process cause the leader of opposing in conjunction with the prime minister have to decide weather the names submitted for the post are qualified. Now the opposition has returned to the house but we are not being told the reason for the delay. Do i smell a rat.? in all this.? YES I DO”.Enough of all that Hollywood business our police force should not be treated in utter disgust and our hard working men should not be treated in that manner.CASE in point just recently Trinidad was in the very same position and last week the new administration dismiss the then acting commissioner of police and blame the former administration for treating that individual badly. What a big joke. I hope thats not where we are heading in our situation. How the hell we expect our police men to do the right thing and speak the truth and as soon as they do that they`re either transfered to the some dark hole or be told they should not adress mattes of ploicy are we really serious in this day and age where information is decimated like wild fire all over the world with a click of the finger. In conclution let me remind the persons reporting on matters of the force to remember that we have an acting commissioner and also an acting deputy those men will not be there for ever they also have families and its a matter of their future after they leave the police force. I will end here and continue to look and listen as a true Dominican.

@ Spy: If you know the investigation will always work in favor of the police then why expect anything different? It’ over Spy. Soon the lady will need to come and face her charges.

On the other hand I must agree with you that we don’t have a commissioner. We have a self centered, mad moomoo acting commissioner. We really need one with more testicles like Mr. Weeks or even Behazin.

Shut ur damn mouth ur fool, what do u people want water from the moon from police? u want efficiency, when u get it u fight down the police. u ask that the police defend the people when they defend their own selves from the same criminals the criminals becomes the best person and the police becomes the criminals.

Now the police is reporting on the matter u still not satisfied as to the proceedures, but lord god the police dont make laws they only enforces them. So the people u voted ask them to have other people apart from police to do these investigations. Meanwhile let the investigations continue and allow the police chief to decide whether there is evidence or not.
