A visitor from the Commonwealth of Dominica, who confessed to beating the woman with whom he was vacationing in the British Virgin Islands, was fined $3,000 in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, August 10.
The offender, Neil Hamlet, is also to pay the woman $2,500 in compensation.
He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo.
Hamlet, who is scheduled to leave the British Virgin Islands in September, is to pay the sum by August 29.
If neither the fine nor compensation is paid on time, the offender would serve the default sentence of six months imprisonment for each offence.
His passport has been seized.

The Caribbean should set up a database just like US and Canada by which criminals are denied entry. In that way we are not all emberrased when a jackass travel . Whew if that law were to be enacted even some of our officials would be grounded . Sad
