Police have arrested and charged 28-year old Denley Joseph of La Plaine with the attempted murder of 25-year old Tamina Albert of the same community.
The incident is said to have occurred on August 5, 2013.
Reports are that Joseph, using a knife, inflicted several stab wounds to Albert resulting in her being hospitalized.
Albert is now listed as being in stable condition from what was initially described as “critical.”
The court was told that Albert suffered several stab wounds which affected her lungs and other parts of her body.
Joseph appeared in court on August 8, 2013 where the charge of attempted murder was read to him.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Claude Weekes, strongly objected to bail and argued that the patient is still at the Dawbiney Ward of the PMH, with both lungs damaged and is all “tubed up”.
“We are also asking the court to look at the public’s interest in the matter…,” Weekes said.
Wayne Norde, Joseph’s lawyer, asked for a curfew and daily reporting conditions to be imposed.
“He is not a flight risk, if anything changes he can easily be found,” Norde told the court.
Magistrate Candia George, after hearing both parties, denied bail, saying the “public element is also of concern and the court must take into consideration the incident and the public interest.”
The matter is set for Oct 23, 2013 in La Plaine.
Meanwhile four other men from La Plaine Imran Khan Joseph, Darren Cuffy, Nicanor Guiste and Alton Eusebe are now on bail of EC$30,000 each after they pleaded not guilty to charges of malicious damage and throwing missiles.
The incident is alleged to have taken place in La Plaine on July 21.
The police are alleging that the men damaged a truck TB753 belonging to John Toussaint. The damage is estimated at $18,500. They are also charged with causing damage estimated at over 8 thousand dollars to a Nissan bus HA068.
They were all ordered to surrender travel documents, report twice a week to the La Plaine police station, be of good behaviour and not interfere with witnesses.
Wayne Norde and David Bruney are the defense lawyers in that matter while the prosecution is headed by Inspector Claude Weekes who did not object to bail.
The matter is set to be heard in La Plaine on Nov 27, 2013.

Go give a statement to the police investigator as it seems that you witnessedthe entireincident. Be Dominican amd step up to the plate assist the Court in giving justice. I lived in la plaine for ten months while working there in 1986 and it’s a loving peacefull community,it’s sad to hear this like that is happening there now.from what am reading the young tho she is the victim seems to be a contributor to crime in the community.

There are so many Court cases these days that I bet most of the cases relate to crimes/murders.
Those who cannot afford to pay, the government will pay it. Their fees are not cheap. It will be at the expense of taxpayers and funds which are given as grants and loans. Indeed, let us face the fact they are getting rich on crimes, defending criminals/murderers.
This is why the government should do its utmost to eradicate crimes in general, the likes of which were not committed in previous years. Otherwise, as the years progress there will be more crimes/murders and those who cannot afford to pay lawyers’ fees (it appears most of them), the government must bear the cost. Dominicans have a right to be upset about that. We must tell it like it is and not sway from the truth. As the saying: “The truth will set you (us) free.”
These criminals need to curb their unloving mannerisms, bad temper, aggressiveness and lack of patience. They must also learn to live in peace and harmony with others. If they continue in that state, consider where their souls will end up on the inevitable day. They need the blessing and grace of God.

Console yourself. I know there are some very good and loving people in La Plaine. I know a few since childhood. There is one particular person I know who resides in La Plaine. She is a decent, quiet person and a lady. I often wonder about her and hope she is doing well. If all goes well, the next time I visit D/ca I will telephone her and might pay her a visit. Hope I see her.
Throughout Dominica, there are good people. The bad ones make it appear that those areas are bad. I would not brand all the people and their villages/towns because of the evil actions of a few. If she survives and gets better, both sides will tell their story in Court. From their evidence, the Law will decide who was right and wrong. However, it takes two. If she attacked him, as a man who may be stronger than her, he could have walked or run away and telephoned the police. He did not have to retaliate to the point of injuring her in such a manner which could lead to her being maimed for life. This is where he went wrong. Do not overlook that he almost murdered her. She could die from her injuries.
If you state that she attacked him first, ask yourself what did he do to her to cause her to attack him? He must have done something which caused her to be angry and attack him. He may not be as innocent as you assume. Some people do not want to admit their fault and error.
People must not play God, the Law, judge and jury and take matters into their hands. What he did to the woman must not be condoned.
You should never say that she deserved it. Right or wrong, place yourself in her position. As I stated, God will never condone what he did.
If she recovers, I hope she will be a different person and learn from this experience. Everyone deserves a second chance. God gives us all second chances and more… Therefore, we are obligated to do the same to others. This is a command from God and his expectation of us with no exception.

There was never an orchestrated attack on Laplaine ppl, an incident occurred between some guys and then La Plaine started pelting bottles from a car trunk filled with bottles. No one from Grand fond even had a cutlass but everyone from Laplaine did, they told the shopkeeper to close the shop because it going to have a war. So when you talk about orchestrated attack by Grand Fond people you need to retract that statement. Through the entire fight the truck driver was trying to stop the fight and when he gets to the road he sees his truck mashed up do you have any idea how that would feel.

the second incident is just not fair…..although i do not entirely support the purposeful destruction o fthe mans truck, one has to look at the bigger picture… the truck was not the only vehicle damaged….there was a real life war between laplaine and grandfond in riviere cyrique… grandfond actually planned and ambushed laplaine ppl…. lots of people could have lost their lives….why are the grandfond men not being charged for the damage of at least 4 laplaine vehicles and many more in the area???

Thanks for this page in the history of Dominica. I can pass onto my grandchildren that the war between Grandfond and Laplaine was actually fought in Riviere Cyrique in 2013, regardless of what Dr Honeychurch might have you believe!

I knew it! When things happen in LA is for a reason. WE are smart and hardworking people and usually cleanup our own mess. As far as I can tell the people involved in these issues had their reasons. LA is bigger than the surrounding villages yet we are generally peaceful.
If it was planned why all the cutlasses were in the possesion of laplaine ppl and not grand fond ppl? Why was the laplaine car filled with beer bottles? Why was the grand fond vehicles so far away from the grand fond guys? And why is it that the laplaine guys hang around the only exit with vehicles filled with weapons? Answer these questions and then you tell me who had a plan

denley is one of the coolest young men in the village never in any problem with people or even the police. he works hard to feed his son and girlfriend. all the time staying out of trouble but this young woman …who the say he stabbed has vowed to kill a man. she was deported from st thomas for beating her lesbian woman almost to death. she has posion the minds of so many of our young school boy with drugs to the extent that they not longer attend school. they turn on their parents.

Whatever she did, I still say the man should not have beaten her up. Two wrongs do not make a right. The fact is, she was badly injured. Even though I knew the story as some of you do, I still would not judge or condemn her.
If everyone were to beat up on people, injure and kill them when they got angry or even attacked, what would happen to Dominica? The jail would not be big enough to hold them. Everyone has good and bad in them. Let God judge. This is his area; not ours. It is not our place to judge and condemn.
