Lee Anthony gets bail

Lee Anthony

A Soufriere man who was arrested for allegedly possessing  a sub machine gun was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 in court on Thursday.

As condition of bail Lee Anthony is expected to report to the Soufriere police station twice a week and is to return to court on February 4, 2013.

He first appeared in court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy.

Anthony was arrested along with Alpha Alexander during a police operation in Loubiere on October 4. During the operation a white Escudo, registered TJ330 with two male occupants aboard, attempted to evade the police but instead struck a pedestrian, a police vehicle and a utility pole before coming to a stop.

It is alleged that at the  time of the incident he was in possession of a sub machine gun with serial number H16014 but was not a holder of a firearms license. It is also alleged that he had in his possession two ammunition magazines and three live rounds of 9mm ammo.

Jamie Andrew

In another matter Jamie Andrew has been granted bail in the sum of $250,000.

Andrew, who was arrested and charged for the daring March 9th robbery of the Marigot Credit Union, is to report every day to the Portsmouth Police Station and to surrender all travel documents.

He was arrested along with Michel Azille, Mitchel Joseph, Princeton George, and Iam Massicot for the matter.

All the defendants are represented by attorney at law Wayne Norde.

Repeated criminals. How do we expect the police to perform when they risk their life only to see the criminal back on the streets? Something is desperately wrong with or legal system. These are the actions that promote extra judicial killings. The police will resort to excessive force and exterminate these criminals. The lawmen need institutional support for thier work. Why should one of Lee’s reputation be free to walk among the citizenry.

I just cant understand why DNO can’t do a thorough investigations into matters before they post them up. Lee Anthony is not at all from Soufriere. De man was born, bread and raised in Coulibiostrie/Morne Rachette. the man recently start leaving in soufriere. please dont tarnish the name of that peaceful community unnecessarily.please correct your mistake and we are seeking legal advice on this matter. other media groups take note!

Please, calm down.I understand your sentiments but if the young man’s last known address is in Souffriere, then that is what it is. This in no way reflects on the reputation of your community. It would be difficult to try and ban any “rotten apple” from living where they want to unless they are prevented from doing so by law.

Mr. Prime Minister, Lawyers, Judges, you guys better wake up before you have a major mess on your hands. Bail! are your kidding? Do you have any idea the type of damage a sub-machine gun can do. It won’t be pretty. Dominica is a beautiful place. Put Judge Benhazin(I don’t if I spell it right) back! He knows what he is doing or Dominica you will be sorry. It won’t take long. Clean it up before it to late. Check out Trinidad, St. Lucia, V.I etc. They cannot control crime now. They let it slide until it’s to late. Beware!

A relative in T & T telephoned me. Among other discussions, I mentioned that Toronto has had approximately 34 murders for the year (heard it recently on TV). The person replied, in T & T they are hundreds. I also mentioned Jamaica which has more murders than T & T.
I agree. Throughout the years their governments, T & T and Jamaica did nothing about it and today they are more than out of hand. Only God will put a hand. Those countries have some very bad people. The word is evil. They have no respect for people’s lives. I hate to say this but many will go to Hell for murder(s).
I do hope that the government of Dominica and the police authorities will do their utmost to decrease those types of crimes and murders in Dominica. Please do not let them get worst. God forbid that this situation would.

This is a very sad state of affairs for Dominica. How on earth can this person be granted bail!! Dominica must be the laughing stock of the internet world. Who is the magistrate that granted bail maybe they should not be in the job at all!!! :(

  14. Malatete
    October 12, 2012

One can not escape the conclusion that there must be some rich- and influential patron(s) to put up surety for these alleged criminals. What is their interest in doing so? Influencing possible witnesses? Providing opportunities for these alleged perpetrators of serious crime to carry on with lucrative activities whilst out on bail? Not to mention the considerable lawyer’s fees – presumably their defence lawyers do not work pro bono or simply for the common good. What is really going on in this little island of ours?
Do we have a credible bar association or a club of pettifoggers?

    October 12, 2012

It seems like when persons are found with ammunition and guns the court is just too busy to bail them but other lesser offenses persons are getting heavier fines.

Dominica is taking a turn for the worst and I think the Government and law enforcement need to get back to the drawing board and amend those laws. LESS OUR PEOPLE DROP LIKE FLIES WITH NO POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS AND JUSTICE.

Raven, please grow up, when someone is wrong say they are wrong. The sad thing is that, this man may have had traits of this from very young and you as his family/relative and the others did nothing about it. Look at where he is now. What a shame. A waste of what could be a good man in Dominica. You stop your hypocracy. If you have kids start correcting them now because I am doing that with my very own.

Prior to contending the word ‘creature’ you should have checked it. Human beings are creatures. So are animals. We are higher creatures than animals. Some people may use the word ‘creature’ in a derogatory or sarcastic manner. Few people utilize that word and refer to another as creature. I can understand the reason why the person made that statement. Nevertheless, in the true sense of the word, we are creatures.
A being, person, man, woman, mortal, human being, living being are creatures.
God is the Creator and we are creatures; his creatures.

you see everybody getting bail even for murder. but out of curiousity, if one day one of these guys kill a police man or politician ect. will they bail them? and if no. then why? hoope you all see where am heading. i mean the system needs to address this situation now before this gets chaotic. in fact these are the things people need to demonstae and protest on the streets about.

Why would a person with a Sub Machine Gun granted bail? A Sub Machine Gun is not a toy! What are his intentions of owning a sub machine Gun? Is his intention to kill?

He needs 25-30 years imprisonment for owning a Sub Machine Gun/ no bail!!
