Minister for National Security Charles Savarin said Thursday he has issues with the way in which the local media is treating what he described as “negative stories”.
Savarin said many crime-related stories are making the headlines in the local media and this only give perpetrators greater reason to commit offenses.
“If you want to be on the front page all you have to do is commit a crime and therefore you are in the headlines, you are on the front page, your photograph is there,” he told a DBS Radio program.
Savarin added that the media’s approach to such stories “seek to give a high profile to those so engaged”.
His comments follow similar calls made in the past by other government ministers and people within other sections of the Dominican society who have told local media to give coverage to more positive news. They said positive coverage influences a greater level of peace on the island.
He is ashamed because the high crime rate in Dominica is a true reflection of his government’s
poor and lousy performance at governing Dominica. Charlo shut up!! go weed your cocoa fields in Portsmouth.

I dont care if this statement was made by Mr Savarin or anyone else, all I know is that it is not a very sensible statement.
The majority of people that commit crime do not do it for their picture to be splashed across the front page of any tabloid. They do not think ‘well this is my 15 minutes of fame’. I’m sure their families/friends wont think of framing the front page for the family album.
Dominicans are curious people, they love scandal (when it relates to others), and they see it as their right to know who did what.
A cute picture of a cat or dog wont grab your attention, but sensational/controversial headlines will.

In other words, Savarin prefers that the media lie or cover up the real deal. What about his new talk show, is it all positive? Maybe the news should do a comparison of charlo then and now. When people lack principles, they are tossed to and fro in the wind. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. One year, you think these men stand for something, in the next breath they preaching something else. Our people can be so lost if they do not think for themselves. It is the same with Timothy, I listened to him a few years ago, saying so much about the type of person Skerrit is, only to hear him singing a different tune, I can’t keep up with these fellas.
