The man who police recently arrested in connection with mail tampering at the General Post Office (GPO) made his first appearance in court on Friday and was granted bail.
He has been identified as Jimmy Myers of Yam Piece, Stock Farm.
He is facing 18 charges of mail tampering under the GPO Act.
Myers pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is being represented by attorney, Joshua Francis.
Most of the alleged mail tampering is said to have taken place between March 18 and March21 and some of the letters allegedly tampered with belong to Ophelia Linton, Oscar Jno Charles, West Children Federation Child Fund, Tracia Lewis, A. Bertrand, Lucile Lewis, among others.
The prosecution told the court that they were “not objecting to bail” with a proper surety.
Bail was set in the sum of $12,000.00 with Myer’s parents standing as surety.
Trial date has been set for September 10, 2013 and August 13, 2013 was set to deal with “procedural matters.”
Police Prosecutor Inspector Michael Laduat, told the court that the likelihood exists for more charges to be brought against Myers.
Young man you caused many people sadness! I pray you learn from this

This man needs some sense in him
who without sin cast the first stone? i not saying anything about the guy. we all have our baggage and most persons that criticize on DNO have the dirtiest baggage. let us all go and clean our backyard first.
show me your friends and I will no who u are he do it bad company
Quit the thieving people. Don’t touch what does not belong to you and was not explicitly given to you.
Make sure we check under the Canefield Bridge for some evidence, thats a favourite spot in our days where we found tons of discarded mails. Time surely has not changed.
Oh no Bolga not you. I really hope you innocent man.
The place so hard man, I was glad to see you have your little project making your bread and is so it end up man?
Not good bro, not good…
dont bash the young man there are people out there doing bigger crimes in high places and they cannot even get a charge read to them…
the little man who commit a crime will alway be the ones that will get the time.
GOOD POINT
A crime is a crime, big or small. Stealing mail is a huge crime against the State and nationals.
it takes one to teach one .hopefully others will learn not to touch what doesnt belong to them.i remember a few years ago my friend sent five bottle of perfume to her boyfriend ,he got the box alright with the boxes of corse but minus the five bottles.
today is the post office tomorrow lets see if is where you work. i work at the post office and i know how things work. let me help you with your ignorance. when a package is sent to you it does not leave the post office from where it was posted and end up on a place to Dominica.
when you yourself travel to other countries you cannot even get a straight flight, same thing happen to the mail. it is handled by many many hands before it arrives to Dominica. so with all this touching you might just have a dishonest person who may tamper with the mail.
you cannot just blame the point at which it arrives. second issue our mail goes to the Dominican Republic a lot.
Mail is routed through the cheapest point. its a government service and that is how government services work. there are dishonest people all over and i hope that this incident will help make person more sensitive and respectful at the GPO of the job they hold.
but why are you so defensive.I dont open mail at my job i handle cash and hundred of thousands of them at a time ,and i learn not to touch people things(my mama taught me that,i am sure your mama told you the same )
This theft occurred in Dominica and not elsewhere. He tampered with the mail. He was caught and must bear the consequences. No excuse.
Stone, since you know about the runnings of the post office, what about my 200 cds and 200 cd cases I shipped that never got to Dominica? And my laptop that I tracked as leaving Miami and the Post Master General telling me that it never left the States? I think the entire post office should be investigated!
Lets not cast stones at the gentleman yet. First let us allow the police to complete their investigations and then speak….
As long as charges are placed, what other investigations do u think is there to be done by the police?
Why will he be granted bail if he is not guilty? Who will he blame for tampering with the mail?
i feel sorry for your parents
Why did DNO put the dates back to front?
It’s a shame that trusted people behave that way. The post office need to install cameras.
dont let him escape cus we know u are a great prosecutor
kuba shut your crappy mouth
aizen i thought Dominica was a democracy if u do the crime u have to face the music criminals should pay for their crime most of us on dno criticize the law officer when it is our friends but it is not good to be anti police, how do u know my mouth is crappy u do not even know me i do not live in Dominica and that the level of ignorance we got to get out of our system for self development and then we will have country development,u should not be mad if i congrats my friend and cousin as a prosecutor.always be on the side of the law and remember crime never pay
Aizen, you have respect for others. You are bold and out of place to make such a statement. People have a right to their opinion just as you have yours. Practice The Golden Rule. You should know what it is.
Some people can be so dishonest eh.. A lot of young people out there wish they had a job.. Why can’t people see other people’s thing and don”t let it burn their eyes nah? smh..
put that on a blimp over roseau, more big people need to know that too.
