Mail tampering suspect granted bail

courtThe man who police recently arrested in connection with mail tampering at the General Post Office (GPO) made his first appearance in court on Friday and was granted bail.

He has been identified as Jimmy Myers of Yam Piece, Stock Farm.

He is facing 18 charges of mail tampering  under the GPO Act.

Myers pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is being represented by attorney, Joshua Francis.

Most of the alleged mail tampering is said to have taken place between March 18 and March21 and some of the letters allegedly tampered with belong to Ophelia Linton, Oscar Jno Charles, West Children Federation Child Fund, Tracia Lewis, A. Bertrand, Lucile Lewis, among others.

The prosecution told the court that they were “not objecting to bail” with a proper surety.

Bail was set in the sum of $12,000.00 with Myer’s parents standing as surety.

Trial date has been set for September 10, 2013 and August 13, 2013 was set to deal with “procedural matters.”

Police Prosecutor Inspector Michael Laduat, told the court that the likelihood exists for more charges to be brought against Myers.

Make sure we check under the Canefield Bridge for some evidence, thats a favourite spot in our days where we found tons of discarded mails. Time surely has not changed.

A crime is a crime, big or small. Stealing mail is a huge crime against the State and nationals.

today is the post office tomorrow lets see if is where you work. i work at the post office and i know how things work. let me help you with your ignorance. when a package is sent to you it does not leave the post office from where it was posted and end up on a place to Dominica.

when you yourself travel to other countries you cannot even get a straight flight, same thing happen to the mail. it is handled by many many hands before it arrives to Dominica. so with all this touching you might just have a dishonest person who may tamper with the mail.

you cannot just blame the point at which it arrives. second issue our mail goes to the Dominican Republic a lot.

Mail is routed through the cheapest point. its a government service and that is how government services work. there are dishonest people all over and i hope that this incident will help make person more sensitive and respectful at the GPO of the job they hold.

This theft occurred in Dominica and not elsewhere. He tampered with the mail. He was caught and must bear the consequences. No excuse.

Stone, since you know about the runnings of the post office, what about my 200 cds and 200 cd cases I shipped that never got to Dominica? And my laptop that I tracked as leaving Miami and the Post Master General telling me that it never left the States? I think the entire post office should be investigated!

Lets not cast stones at the gentleman yet. First let us allow the police to complete their investigations and then speak….

It’s a shame that trusted people behave that way. The post office need to install cameras.

Aizen, you have respect for others. You are bold and out of place to make such a statement. People have a right to their opinion just as you have yours. Practice The Golden Rule. You should know what it is.
