A 31-year-old man is being questioned by police in relation to the murder of two Grand Bay brothers over the weekend.
He could face two charges of murder following police investigations.
Dead are 30-year-old Romaih Esola Remy aka Swat, and his brother, 28-year-old Josiah Remy aka Joe.
Josiah was hospitalised in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night.
The men were shot to death on Christmas night at about 7 p.m. in Geneva Grand Bay.

13 murders in Dominica this year and only 2 in Grand Bay at the end of the year yet everyone starts screaming how bad and evil Grand Bay is. This makes no sense to me this would mean murders are happening in places other than Grand Bay. Its easy to try and label one area as the bad place but does that really do anything to solve the growing problem of violence? Of course not. Instead of trying to bad mouth one area people from all villiages need to come together and offer suggestions on ways to decrease violent crime throughout the island. I for one think the island as a whole need to come together and build youth centers and other activities for the youth to be involved in instead of finding trouble, using drugs, drinking, and having sex.

Grandbay has been a place where a lot of true triumphant and heroes of this small island state came from. Grandbay is rich in culture… these criminal activities are by whom? THE YOUNG PEOPLE!!.. and it is appalling to sit or be doing something constructive and hearing these things happening in many villages in dominica and NOT ONLY GRANDBAY!… I have seen so many young people try and work hard to achieve great things while others just tend to sit around and think that the drug life is the way. IT IS NOT!!!!… AS if, if you don’t smoke, or drink you are nothing to society. THERE ARE LITTLE ONES GROWING UP… when we young people get older (if we live to see the day) is that the kind of lifestyle that we want to see these young kids grow in? We can have fun but we can have clean fun. I used to boast to my friends in America that while all islands have their problems, Dominica isn’t like that. Told them that while I have my American passport, I will always keep my Dominican passport because I will need it to “run back home”. I used to boast and say “google us, you will see for yourself, crime rate next to nothing, stable economy, etc., etc.” Now I am SCARED and ASHAMED to say that. Everytime I come to DNO is nothing but bad news: murders, stabbings, shootings, political corruption. Alas, alas…what have we come to? Have we sould our contry to the Devil? Where did we go wrong? When will this madness end? It is really time for Dominicans to stand up and demand a stop to this. Our country is too small for things like this to be happening, day after day, after day. It is wrong to characterise all Grandbay as being violent. There are these people who thrive on violence that live in all communities across the country. Why then does Granday evokes these responses? True to say but sad to say Grandbay has helped to bring this on themselves. “I am from Grandbay you know” is an utterance that is used to threaten people.
I mean just recently there were suggestions, wrong ones for sure that Grandbay people would be willing to fight for labour party in the streets of Roseau. Where was your outrage. The days when police were afraid to go there and would go straight to Stowe instead of going into the village on carnival especially in the 70s and 80s. You were proud then of that. These young fellas now were born into that mindset. Of course parenting and so on happens on an individual basis and is crucial in how children grow. They do turn away from the intended path at times but the village not only Grandbay is also crucial as to what are the hidden messages we transfer to children.
So I think that this a time of introspection Grandbay and much soul searching. I do not know these boys involved in this tragedy but see what positive can come from it. Do better than Dominica call in for a peace and reconciliation movement to address the lingering hate and mistrust. You have people like Jockey and Chrispin, John Roach, Willie and bring in outsiders who may say the things that you wont like to hear to hear but are truthful. The back and forth and threats of retaliation won’t help.
Time to heal Grandbay. It will take time but it can be turned back. I know your pains. We cut grass and husk coconuts on Melville Hall. I know your potential. You can do it.
Grandbay is part of Dominica. Dominica has 14 murders for the year so far and let us pray that there is no more by the end. We must ask ourselves how much of these murders happened in Grandbay.
