Man blames alcohol for behavior

A man from St. Cyr in the Carib Territory who blamed alcohol for his behavior which landed him in court was told by Magistrate Candia Carrette-George to “stop drinking.”

The court heard that Padmoore Valmond on two separate occasions in March threatened to kill his aunt Marietta Valmond.

He first entered her home where she was with her family, grabbed her, punched her several times and told her he was going to kill her.

She reported the matter to the police.

However Valmond returned a few days later again under the influence of alcohol, this time carrying a coconut bat.

He is reported to have demanded ice and when she refused to grant the request he threatened to kill her, chasing her in the yard.

The court heard that he then went to his home, got a cutlass and chased Marietta and her husband who struck him with a piece of stick.

Not satisfied, he pelted stones at them, and even went into the home and took Valmond’s husband t-shirt and tore it.

The police were called and when arrested he said, “I was drunk and that’s why I behaved so.”

He was slapped with charges of threats, intimidation, battery, malicious damage and battery on a female.

Valmond now has to pay a fine of  EC$2,025.00.

He could end up in jail for about 8 months if he doesn’t pay up on time.

He was told that his behavior was “inexcusable” and that if he can’t control himself when he drinks he should desist from doing so.

“If you cannot handle alcohol stay away from it and go and behave yourself,” Magistrate Carette-George told Valmond.

There are some people who get drunk and who are as quiet as a mouse. There are others who create havoc when under the influence of liquor. It is obvious that this man has a serious problem. He cannot control his liquor to the point of creating trouble.
Dominica needs to establish an Alcoholics Anonymous centre (AAA) for such people. Informing him to stay away from liquor will not help him. He is already addicted to it in such a manner that he is a threat to his family.
He did a lot of harm and threatened to kill. He should receive a stiffer sentence and not merely paying some money. Imprisonment probably will be a deterrent and when he is released.

This is a joke man. Does he have to seriously injure or kill the woman for the court to take it serious?

Is stuff like this that makes people want to take the law into their own hands.

I have a funny feeling that this case will reach before the courts again, the only question is which one of them will be standing before the court, the victim or the perpetrator?

The man chase the woman with a cutlass and he not in jail? Man…

Every week somebody blaming something else for their behavior? Last week one lawyer blamed “society” for his client’s behavior after he slashed a young lady’s face, now this one blaming alcohol? When will people learn to take responsibility?

    • May 15, 2012

      @Dominican/Possie

Human beings with a carnal mind will never take responsibility for the wrong things they do, because they came into this world, with the mind of their primary parents who were Adam and Eve.

Remember that Adam and Eve died spiritually because of disobedience to God–we are their offspring existing with that same mind of disobedience, and with that same spiritual death condition.

What was Eve doing talking with, and answering to the Satan in the form of that Serpent, when God had already explained to her, what was good to do and what was not good to do? But she went and indulged in conversation with him, accepting his ideas to kill herself, through his deceptive lie. “You will not die”

Adam carelessly followed her and what happened to them? The were both left naked, through their fractured conscience, blinded by the darkness they chose, being robbed from their clothing of spiritual Light–their Life from God.

When God called for them to give an account of what they had done, Adam blamed God saying: “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate”.

Eve blamed the serpent when she said to God: “The serpent deceived me, and I ate”. But all three of them were punished.

The blaming game continues to this day, in the minds of mankind, because they cannot hear, to obey the commands of conscience from where God speaks the words of life to them.

The trouble is that there is always someone or many people who are made victims of those who do the wrong thmgs and will not take responsibility for their actions–So help us, dear God!

That’s like comedy central – the man entered the woman house and beat her up, he threatedned to kill her, chased her with a dangerous weapon etc. and the charge was pocket change and a warning? He probably went straight to the rum shop from the court to celebrate his victory – this has not taught him anything and he will strike again.

    Comedy central at best!

I don’t think you understand. I am describing the justice system – or rather the people who are suppose to uphold the law. I wasn’t trying to be funny.
