Edward Bruney is in trouble with the law after reportedly calling a police officer “stupid” and allegedly beating the complainant.
The Roseau man appeared before Magistrate Candia Georgeat at the Roseau Magistrate Court Thursday morning where he pleaded not guilty to the charges of threat, insulting language, resisting arrest and the battery of a police while in the execution of his duties.
Allegations are that on June 22 in Roseau, the defendant threatened Corporal Phillip H. “I will knock the teeth off of your mouth,” Bruney allegedly said.
The accused also scored another charge when he allegedly used insulting language against the officer during the episode. “You stupid, you too damn stupid,” the defendant from 88 King George the Fifth Street reportedly told the police officer.
The defendant is currently out on $5,000 bail in his own recognizance.
The trial date in this matter is set for December 8.
The defendant is being represented by Kondwanie Williams.

i was in the credit union….very close to eddie…and i know eddie for he maintains my daughter’s school yard surroundings and i have ha my encounters with him. he is very hasty and cantankerous…
he was approached by the police officer(in uniform)..is not like he didnt know it was a police man…the man quietly spoke to him and then eddie just started ranting and raving..he did call him stupid, he did tell him he wil knock out his teeth, he even asked about the cameras in wat not inside the credit union to look and hear…apparently he was about to make a scene..he threatened the police to charge him! charge him! n that he got…i mean gimme a break man..he look for it..he got it..for his hastiness and the fool in the matter is EDDIE! see where his vocals got him!

I had to laugh at this stupid man. I would also have been shocked. Surely he should have known better not to insult and challenge a Police Officer.
Was he under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs? Is he mentally deranged or does he have a bad temper? He needs to be rehabilitated.
A few questions for you. Were you at the scene? was the police in uniform? if not did he identify himself as a police officer? and finally even if he did, was he questioning the individual in an official capacity or as a parent?

I am not taking sides here. It is just that I live way outside of Dominica, but I am trying to keep in touch with the situations there, because I love my homeland, and if I must die, I pray that God will allow me to die there.

Now pertaining to this article, and I must admit that the flaw sometimes arises from the way administrator presents the story–in that people focus on the headline, which could be misleading somtimes.
Now as I read this article, I come to the passage where it says:

My first observation is that the man was being arrested for a “certain conduct” which is not mentioned in the news article. I was not there, but I know also, that “battery” is a form of physical abuse, the conduct of one person to another.
The news article continues: “I will knock the teeth off your mouth” Bruney allegedly said. Physical assult or threats of physical assult from a person, against a police office, or any person for that matter, demands that the police press charges against, or render a serious warning to, that person in question.
The news article continued: “The “accused also scored” another charge when he allegedly used insulting language against the office during the episode”
Again I am saying that I am not taking sides here, I am too far away to do that.
However I have noticed that everyone is focused on the headline of this news article, which seems to be an “added charge” to the reason that man is faced with rebuke from the law to begin with.
We, as Dominican’s must learn to get rid of our one sided mentality. It is not doing any good for the development of our Dominica and the freedom and welfare of us, who are her people.
Let us practice to weigh the circumstances before we go into contention whether for or against.

Someone who goes by “shocked” who was present gave his/her verdict of what happened. The man was wrong and deserved to be arrested.
AS a man of God I want to suggest that our Government more specifically the Dept of legal affairs make available for a small fee copies of our pinal Laws of Dominica to every body who need to understand and educate them self about our laws under this act we can have it publish on line for our brothers and sisters living out of Dominica. Allow me to add with caution just like the copies of the mini version bibles which used to be distributed all over Dominica in like manner the Laws of Dominica in print Form should paint our country and every body should avail themself with a copy and do not leave home withoutit. Police took an unlicensed firearm from Bubbles as evidence in the case of intimidation of persons who visited the area of the VILLAS. Strangely, a policeman was ordered to take the unlicensed gun which was in the police station as evidence and give it back to Bubbles. Certainly that action was illegal, illegal, illegal. NOTHING happened. The said policeman was never brought before the court for his wrong action.
The now Chief of Police when he was Acting Chief, refused to carry out the orders of the Chief Magistrate and the court to effect the arrest warrant and to arrest the Lawyer Isidore re. the 42 charges filed by Emanuel for alleged fraud, embezzlement etc. etc. Carrette’s refusal to arrest Isidore was wrong, wrong, wrong, disobeying the court, and the Chief Magistrate. Nothing happened.
Another high ranking Police Officer admitted to throwing a package with thousands of $$$$$$$ while cleaning in the Marigot Police station where he was stationed at the time. He said he was unaware that the bag had any money in it. He later brought $$$$$$$$$ back to the Treasury. NO court. No case. No charges. Imagine that policeman still has the right, after that irresponsible behaviour, to arrest anyone found stealing or committing any illegal act.
Many other such examples of some people doing wrong and NOTHING HAPPENS could be cited. Dominicans know that some in authority, in ‘HIGH PLACES’ commit all kinds of illegal acts and absolutely NOTHING happens. In fact, those persons are well protected. They boast of their POWER and influence. They use their links in the corrupt system to escape justice.
The ordinary, marginalised people in Society with no friends in ‘HIGH PLACES’ will face hell. The full force of the Law will be used against poor people. What prompted the police officer to hit Eddie with the butt of his gun and BURST the guy’s HEAD? DNO may have forgotten to report that also. If one of the charges is battery against the policeman where is the cut, the bruise, the tear of the complainants cloths and so on or a doctor’s report of the beating up of the police?
All are not equal before the Law in Dominica. Consciously or unconsciously, criminal activities are being condoned right under our very eyes, in our faces. INJUSTICE PREVAILS. EDDIE’S case will call quickly, but not one of the 42 charges can be read yet to Isidore, much less for a date to be announced for that classic Emanuel vs. Isidore case. 18 months now a dual citizenship case involving Skerritt has been filed and should be dealt with quickly according to the constitution and laws of the land, yet total run around, delays, manipulations. Dominicans cannot after 18 months be assured who is the legitimate leader of Dominica.
No case regarding the RUBBISH BIN and FERTILIZER BOBOLs. People’s money were taken from the Treasury. Secret, controversial deals were made. Those involved reluctantly paid back monies taken from the Treasury after feeling the transactions were not transparent. Only Public pressure forced them to pay back. Yet no investigation. No case. i don’t know the facts of this case and I know Eddie can be very mouthy but I wish him well. By the same note though, people must be carefull because their actions can reflect bad on their family members who operate in certain roles.
The officer may well have been stupid. But to call him that to his face does not qualify as “free speech”. Still,one should not be too thin-skinned in a position that serves the public and common sense should always prevail.
There is no such offence as insulting a police officer. It is not impossible for eddie to threaten the officer but somehow I doubt very much that he did and if the officer is reporting what was said to him, these are not Eddie’s words.
