Man claims he did not plant cannabis seeds, he scattered them in his yard

“I actually does smoke weed but I doesn’t plant it to sell,” were the words Romel Pascal used to mitigate on his behalf yesterday morning after pleading guilty to the possession and cultivation of cannabis.

Pascal, a Yam Piece resident, was charged after a quantity of marijuana was found in his house and growing in his yard when police carried out a warrant to search his residence at 5 a.m. yesterday.

“Officer that is just a little weed I have to smoke,” he told police when confronted about the cannabis during the search.

According to the facts of the case which were presented by the police prosecutor, a match box containing cannabis seeds and another container with five grams of marijuana were also found at the defendant’s home.

“That’s some big trees,” Magistrate Candia George said after the cannabis trees were revealed in court.

Pascal told the court that he did not actually plant the cannabis seeds but had scattered them in the yard and they grew.

“Same difference,” the magistrate replied.

“You’re not supposed to have it for your personal use. It is illegal. It’s bad enough to have it to smoke. It’s worse that your planting it,”  he told Pascal.

According to the investigating officer, if dried, the cannabis would be valued at $800 on the streets.

Pascal was fined $400 for the possession of cannabis charge. He will pay this by September 30, or he spends two months in prison. He was also fined $1,500 to be paid by December 31 for the cultivation charge. In default, he will spend four more months in prison.

Dont worry Jahs children, the ganja was on Solomons grave, and it will be there when all the Babylonians kill themself with the use and sale of cocaine.

Once again ,the small man gets slammed while the big man sells more cocaine. This trend will continue for a very long time because those involved ( police and politicians) are either immune to prosecution or simple untouchable. So all who want to smoke do so with discretion or just quit because eventually, that same marijuana will kill you.

I am curious to know what is the protocol for “disposing” of the cultivation? Community service and a fine would have served as a more appropriate punishment, soon the Dominican jail will be overcrowded with petty offenders.

I am a ball head man in more ways than one. I have never ever smoked any type of of cigarette and do not ever ever intend to, as I think it is bad for my health and to others as well. I think, however, that it is time that we de-criminilise the herb. We have been sending too many poor people to jail, for what? Being in possesion of a plant! Why? Because the industralised north says so. Rediculous!! This is how alcohol, a far more dangerous drug was, illegal untill the industralised countries decided to legalise it. The result was that people were making and ingesting all types of illegal and dangerous substances like ‘Montain Dew’. The solution was to legalise alcohol and set standards for its consumption. I think that the same thing should be done for Marijuana. I guarantee that within the next 50 years that the ‘Herb’ will be legalised when common sense becomes a more available commodity.

I’m not a smoker, but I don’t see why we are wasting time and money trying to get money out of poor people or continue to crowd the prison for a little marijuana? isn’t there anything better for the police officers to do with their time? We wasting time with the little boys while the big coke pushers continue to live like kings. give me a break or two

Why don’t the Police Force forcus on more important things! Am getting real fed up with this cramp for a lack of a better word!

The reason why hard criminicals- Cold blooded murderers get little or no time at all is because our prison are packed with persons who can easily be sent to community service! THERE IS NO SPACE FOR THE HARD CRIMINIALS in turn the walk free!

The Herb is not a big DEAL, it it de man yard. The knew commissioner better clean up the force and let them forcus on what really matters.

    Cha man!

what has the green herb of JAH done to these babylonians?
Why can’t you all leave the herb of jah grow free?
why prosecute someone for weed when those in high offices mastermind and control the cocaine trade in dominica?

which is the true killer COCAINE or weed?

I have said it before those in authority will try to tie weed to “cocaine” saying weed is a stepping stone to harder drugs…I can attest to that False and misleading theory..

I have smoked weed since third form …never lost my cool….never used anything harder …oh yes on party times alcohol which is worse in my honest opinion that weed…

EASE UP THE WEED AND GO upstairs the 2 huge unpainted buildings in Roseau and investigate to see who earns $2000.00 monthly and drive around in $120,000.00 trucks…investigate and see who has cars, boats, trucks on these salaries….LEAVE GOD HERB ALONE!!!!!!!!

Look, i am a law enforcement officer and against drug use and dealing including marijuana. In my opinion we need to get real and stop being hypocrites. If a man grows some marijuana for his own use why hustle him and incriminate him.what is criminal about that?we have politicians doing all kinds of crimes…crooked land deals, binbobol, blatant lies etc and yet they are yet to be prosecuted. We have so many violent crimes being perpetrated in this country including murder (including execution style),the majority of them undetected..and even when detected and brought before the courts those criminals walk out of the courts jubilant to near celebrity reception.there are so many illegal guns entering this country back door.I remember the days when the customs an police would have combined operations to combat drugs and guns.those days are long gone cause the government wants to save moneys but yet the prime minister and his band of no-gooders spend that very money saved for their personal and political good.So marijuana has never been a problem and will never be…whenever you guys are willing to fight crime ,drugs, and violence in Dominica I am straining at the leash and ready to go…

We always hearing about when police officers arrest and the judges accost people for an old grass that grows wild by the side of the road the world over. Very seldom do we hear about the cases when the individuals get caught with cocaine and are charged!

Or I guess the police must be getting their cut from the lucrative trade? There are far more young men out there selling and using coke than marijuana, yet we never hear about their houses being raided or their ridiculous responses to those judges.

Go ahead police, kill, cramp and paralyze your fellow Dominican brothers and sisters who use the good ole lambs bread( marijuana an herb, just like cilantro), and leave cocaine( processed man-made drug steeped in chemical solutions) to foster its vices upon us and we will all see how quickly we will grow to regret having categorized marijuana with the likes of cocaine. Let alone treating our fellow countrymen like trash.

I guarantee, if I was to take all my clothes off and go terrorize people in their homes after I did my coke, they would just say I mad and leave me be. But if I grow a natural GOD-GIVEN plant in order to make money to feed myself and children, I’m the worst most devious, scoundrel, menace to society alive?….please…

Well brothers and sisters there are cocaine zombies being formed as we speak. Wait until they hit the road! They’re going to make those Rastaman that smoking their little spliff look like a priest drinking the blood of Jesus!

    YOU WAIT AND SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
