Bottle thief sentenced

After admitting to the theft of a case of empty bottles from the Marpin 2k4 building in Roseau, Michael Casimir was sentenced to 10 days in prison.

According to the facts of the case presented the police prosecutor, Casimir was caught at the back of the building with the stolen items by police moments after the theft. He was then charged and appeared before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptise this morning.

According to the court, the security guard, who was assigned at the building,  saw the defendant take the said case of bottles and walked away with it. The guard then called the police who caught up with the defendant behind the building.

The case of bottles was recovered and ordered to be restored to the owner.

People you all need to analyze a situation before commenting…The only reason that he was sentenced to 10 days in prison is because he has a litany of similar charges and chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste thought that he doesn’t learn and maybe spending some time behind bars would actually work. Yes he’s paro and for those of you who are thinking its my beloved paper T it’s not. It’s actually a 45 year old man from Kingshill

Isn’t this the same magistraste who does let gunrunning, drugsmuggling bandits back on the streets after madistrate Tyani Benzanzin send them up Stocky, yet she could send someone up for a case of empty bottles? This is really ridiculous! They need to get rid of this sad excuse for a magistrate!

Now we can safely say that *lack of space in the prison is due to these foolish jail sentences*.

There is no space yet stil any little petty crime its a jail sentence.

    is’nt there any other punishment????

leave the jail space for more henious crimes, such as murder, fraud, rape griviousl bodily harm, drug trafficking ect ect..stop crowding up the already over crowded prison with this mundane jail sentences.

I suggest a correctional facility should be built for crimes of such nature

My people its time that we wake up from that dream, the man got wat he deserved, theft is theft it don’t matter if is just empty bottles. if we are promoting such behavior then i must come to the conclusion that we dont love our country. crime of any nature should not be encouraged but instead we should be happy to see that our court have realized that criminals need to be put in the places wer they belong. jail all the thief and criminals , keep Dominica free of criminals.

i’m just wondering if it is a paro that steal those bottles, because it sound so to me. these are the ways our tax dollars a being wasted, by sending a man to prison for ten days, don’t the judge realize that she is placing more pressure on the prison, why didn’t she give him some comunity service to do, because the had retrive the empty case. this is a petty case and should be delt with in a mor appropriate manner.

TO ME THATS NONESENSE, I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE GOTTA SPEND 10 DAYS IN PRISON FOR STEALING SOME EMPTY BOTTLES. I was looking at cops lastnight on trutv. Some guys where caught stealing a bicycle and because it was under $80.00 they were not jailed. Sometimes we have to be discrete

so why the security guard couldnt handle it himself instead of wasting the police time and tax payers money??????

    March 8, 2010

The policemen themselves charged should be charged for wasting the courts time and public funds. The judge herself had nothing better to do? She should take a time out. Gush man Such stupid news.

    This is getting ridiculous.
Has the government looked at the cost to the state to procecute and house the inmates for these petty crimes?

There has to be a better way to deal with these petty issues without having to resort to jailing these people. This is getting ridiculous.
