A Roseau man was fined $2,000 after he threatened to kill a Salisbury man who he said was having an affair with his girlfriend while he was behind bars.
Kurt James pleaded guilty to the charge of threat before Magistrate Evalina Baptiste Monday morning at the Roseau Magistrate Court.
According to the facts of the case, on Sunday May 8, the complainant Jessie James, 21, of Salisbury got a call from Nadine Mathew inviting him to the Salisbury bus stop. The complainant on arrival at the bus stop did not see the female who invited him.
On his way back to the village, a vehicle in which James and Matthew occupied stopped next to him and James wind down the window and allegedly shouted at the complainant, “I know everything about you and my woman, leave my woman alone or I will kill you.”
The following day the complainant reported the matter to police. On May 15 when the defendant was questioned by authorities at the Roseau Police Headquarters he admitted partially to the offense. “Officer me and my girlfriend were heading up the Salisbury village when she told me look the feller. All I tell him is I know all what happen between you and my woman when I was in prison,” he reportedly said.
Police proceeded to caution the defendant and told him they had reason to believe that he threatened the complainant.
Given an opportunity to make a plea of mitigation by the Magistrate the defendant was apologetic. In handing down the sentence Magistrate Baptiste considered that James pleaded guilty to the offense and did not waste the courts time. However, she also considered that James had previous offenses which did not work to his benefit.

That is why the she did not show up at the bus stop, because they were quarreling about the phone call. Remember the guy said she called him to meet him there but she never showed up.
