UPDATE: Dead man at Castle Bruce identified

Curious onlookers walked pass body of the dead man

The body of a 50-year-old man, who was fished out of the sea at Castle Bruce, has been identified as Ruthus George of the said community.

Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Kent Matthew said at about 7:30 am the Castle Bruce police retrieved the lifeless and naked body of George on from the sea, close to the shorelines at the Castle Bruce bay.

“There were bruises to his legs and face. That body was removed to the Princess Margaret Hospital where it was pronounced dead and secured at the mortuary at the hospital pending a postmortem examination which will be perform in preparation for the inquest which will be held later,” he said.

The police have also reported that George allegedly went rock fishing the day before and had not been seen until his body was seen by a villager and  fished out of the sea.

it is sad to hear of his passing. He was a humble man yet proud of who he was. He was never too busy for the young ones in the village, always ready to help . Always ready to give, be it uplifting words of wisdom or correcting you whe he sees you doing something wrong.
Man I remember dwiveying, and hunting for commando comics and always ending up at his place in jalousie.would stay and read all his commandoes. He would cook some tasty rasta meals with buttermarker and coconut milk.sometime ago returned home and ran into him with my oldest brother at tapa zukis. was great running into him again.
Thanks bro for your wisdom and patience and love.

It seems like we Dominicans are very stupid, ignorant, and obnoxious people. I do not know RAT, but it seems that RAT was doing the thing he loves the most (fishing) unfortunately a mishap took place. This does not mean that he was dealing with drugs. We Dominicans need to think before we open our mouths. My sympathy goes out to his entire family. May your soul rest in “peace” and for we Dominicans please let him rest in peace if you known what this is!!!

This is not the place or all those negative comments.
My people must learn to deal with matters properly.
This is not the placebut i want the Parl Rep to look into the matter. I was told that the chairman of the council was turned away by the doctor in the village and he later collapsed. He is now a patient at the P M H
That should not be tolerated. This issue needs to be dealt with. I want to know the facts.
some of these so called doctors think they are doing people a favour. If you do not want to serve people grt out of the profession. It is a life of service. Please investigate

my sister and I always looked forward to seeing you whenever we were in Castle Bruce or you would come looking for us bringing whatever fruits you had. We will miss you. May you rest in peace our friend and cousin. You alway loved the sea, that view of the ocean from your home was breath taking. Our prayers with your son and family member. I still see you smiling

I grew up with Rat in Castle Bruce,we went to the Technical College together for two years; my house is just a few yards away from his house,so every year when I go home, I would take something down for him and spend plenty time together;so I know the man very well.Actually, when we were attending the college,I being a country-bookie was being picked on by a town boy,and Rat was quick to come to my defense;that’s the type of person he was.He would always defend the weak and vulnerable ones.He had the heart of a Lion. Please, those of you who do not know the man, please refrain from your negative comments.Rat was one of the Dominica’s most multi-talented people, one of the most courageous person I ever knew.Castle Bruce has lost one of it’s greatest soldiers.I could write a book about the great qualities of this man,but time and space does not allow me.RIP my brother, and may JAH guide you through this journey.I will miss you, and always remember you.

I remember the CB sports committee made “RAT” sportsman of the year a few years ago. I had the opportunity of interviewing the man. A very humble human being – a man who loved sports and CB on a whole. He inspired many through his dedication, commitment and strong will to help in sports development. RIP my brother. Castle Bruce and the whole sports community have lost a great individual. You will be missed

Rest in peace. Brethen you taught I to ride a bike. You were a brother. We were good friends at thirteen, had our own crew”the old gang” as we hang out by your mothers house. Souris (mice) was the name I gave to you, people will not know but it had to do with a girl and youthful feelings. Later it morphed into Rats. You were a true brethren. Haven’t seen you in a few years. However, the last time we met you were still the warm and affectionate brethren I have known. To your family my condolences.Rest in peace Ruford.

Some people are insensitive, unkind and downright wicked. How can you all accuse the man of dealing drugs and you dont know the man? The man was always rock fishing and passing by my home and selling me his fish. I even asked him if he is not afraid of that sea cus I have NEVER been on the sea…. How dare you even suggest that, you wicked and malicious people. God will deal with you all.

  17. September 10, 2011

whatever the case is i think the police need to do their job and let’s all pray for the best. there are alot of unaswered questions but can any of us answer them? no! so let’s just hope that the police can do the proper investigation and give some reasonable results to his family.

    • So Sorry
      September 10, 2011

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family. I have known Rufford since we were kids, very pleasant, always smiling. I am diffinitely saddened by his sudden death, he died in an environment in which he always loved, unfortunately. Guess however, that he is in a much better place than we are in at the moment. I do empathize with his family, as the incident has brought back bad memories. Someone very close to me left us in exactly the same way in castle Bruce. Remember, this individual has loved ones and they are grieving his loss. No one knows what occured and should not make any assumptions or come to any conclusion. It is normal when there is an unexpected death for the police to be involved and an autopsy is done to determine the cause of death, this does not necessarily mean that a crime was committed. He may have been swept over by a wave, have a seizure, there are so many possibilities, so let’s wait for the autopsy and refrain from making negative comments. :(
