Man hiding in backseat of police car sentenced to three months jail

Carlian Moses, a repeat offender, begged Magistrate Gloria Augustus to give him a last chance due to a charge where he was caught in the backseat of a police officer’s car on Castle Street at 3 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the facts of the case as presented by the police prosecutor, Corporal Valerie was asleep at his home when he was awakened by a loud noise, originating from his parked vehicle outside of his home.

“Subsequently, Corporal Valerie went outside and found the defendant sitting in the backseat of the said car, which he had locked the night before. He immediately informed the defendant that he was a police officer and that he was the owner of the vehicle,” the prosecutor explained.

When confronted the defendant replied and said, “I wasn’t doing anything there.”

Valerie immediately contacted Constable Pacquette at the CID [Criminal Investigation Department] who was detailed to investigate. When Pacquette introduced himself and asked the defendant what he was doing there, the defendant replied, “I tested the door. I see it was unlocked and I was waiting there for my partner. He tell me his vehicle park by the road.”

Moses was then charged for vagrancy.

In his plea of mitigation this morning at Magistrates’ Court, Moses told Magistrate Augustus that his action was a simple mistake.

According to Moses, he and a friend named Kurt were drinking alcohol, and he felt a bit drunk, when his friend told him to go into his car to wait for him.

“De partner have a car just like Kurt, is my partner,” Moses said.

“Please give me a little break. I just start working there Thursday… My mother sick. Help me out… I just started working there Saturday I wasn’t going and steal nothing,” he added.

Moses was sentenced to serve three months in jail.

Sadam Hussein, read the story carefully man. The tone of the story clearly shows the car is privately owned by the Corporal Valerie and was not a marked police car to be used by other police officers.

People just like to come and skim through stories without reading them carefully and make foolish statements which makes all of us Dominicans look stupid, It disgusts me.
