Man shot in Pointe Michel

One man from the community of Pointe Michel is a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) nursing gun shot wounds after he was shot in the early hours of Saturday, January 7, 2017.

The man was shot three times at close range by his attacker who he earlier had an argument with in a bar in the Pointe Michel community.

Police are investigating the matter and are in search of the suspect.

Too much American TV in the people of DA minds. Do like Cuba no American TV. That will stop the madness. They look at all the crazy things on TV and try to copycat. what do you expect with some people who have no control? Wake up DA it’s not getting better. Things are getting worse. Soon people will have to lock themselves in their houses like the USA. Not good at all.

That is the result when a Country has no Law, no Constitution, Dominicans were always like that they were just waiting for a good leader for them to show their colours, in 1963 the kind of fire that pass in D/ca killing these young people in carnival and no one was charge, all You forget man, Christmas morning 2010 the 2 elderly folks at upper goodwill no one is yet to be charge for that although people came forward and confess, that’s just to mention a few but there are 100’s of that type of things going on for decades
But Dominicans will find out at the appropriate time just watch and we will all see

When the Honrable minister wanted to make a start with policing the cital the fearless leader Sheritt shut him down. The police hands should be untied so they can leave the Domino table and arrest this crime spree.

…outside. Reaching outside he takes a deep breath and slowly releases the oxygen out of his mouth. He tells himself to just calm down that guy was just drunk, leave it alone. But the foreboding feelings persists, they raise the hairs on his skin and the back of his neck. He was never a coward man but, for some reason. tonight he is terrified. He realizes that his vehicle is parked a little distance away from the bar and decides that his safest bet is to get to it and get inside. As he walks about 20 feet towards his car a cutlass (machete) is pointing straight into his face from less than a foot away. “I doh warn you boy? You trying to play bad in your mother’s stinking dirty a…, you think is play i playing boy”, as he swings the cutlass at his victims neck. Our guy, quick on his reflexes moves quickly to his left and hears the cutlass whistle as it passes inches from his nose, before the troublemaker could pull his hands back for a second swing…Pow! Pow! Pow! DNO

Our people are fast becoming a nation drunk on sewo, creating blatant noise disrespecting the rights of people to peace in their homes and an unresponsive local police who are either incompetent and afraid to deal with these criminals. And of course we celebrate that as development and progress.

This country just needs Jesus. Neither the PM nor OL can save us. Stop idolizing these people. They are men. Focus on Christ. Humble yourselves, pray and turn from your wicked ways and He will heal this land. Too many people saying they blessed and praying when in fact their hearts are far from God. People shouting God is good yet they don’t know God. If every single person commenting surrenders to Christ and not men there will be a marked difference in this land.

    January 8, 2017

In my opinion a crime may have been committed on the night of boxing day and the authorities did not do a good job investigating it . To me when they brought in a backhoe so early they tampered with evidence. That crime was as bad as the stabbing just that one escaped uninvestigated while the other was arrested. Since 2000 when Rosie died a mysterious death, and according to Tony Pierro was stabbed by those he stretched his hands to, Dominica from that time became a crime scene.

Oh Dominica, the once quiet Island of unmatched natural beauty…look at you now! What have you become in the thirty-odd years since your independence from the “Colonialists”? An Island divided by political colors and affiliations teetering over the precipice of violence and chaos. An Island where even the religious leaders are giving evil for good and good for evil. An Island where speaking out against the wrongdoings of “ONE MAN” can cost you your job, reputation or even your LIFE! An Island where the Police Force is controlled and directed to serve the interests of a few rather than to serve and protect the Citizens of the land. An Island where the Police are capable of turning a blind eye on the attempted murder of an elderly couple and leaking the sensitive information of a child abuse victim. So Dominica, are you now surprised that some Citizens have adopted and internalized this system of lawlessness? Pow Pow Pow at close range…so what?

Why do the people of Dominica are having guns, going out and having a good time should never end up with people shooting one another. Why the government allows gun inside the country in the first place, what is the purpose of having guns this is not a good image for Dominica to hear such things going on over there. My question is why should the government allows people to have guns and why allow it at all. What are you trying to prove, bringing guns into the country and allowing people to buy them is outrageous and that’s not the way to help the economy’s growth people of DA can’t afford this added tension they should not leave in fear of anyone getting hurt, they should leave their lives in peace and enjoy it, DA shouldn’t be like the other countries that looks over their shoulder every time they step out or look out their windows. The government should take more serious step and ban guns from entering or let anyone come in to do any kind of gun selling business in the country…

    • Jayson
      January 7, 2017

It’s not the guns that is the problem. It’s the mindset of the people that is the problem.
In Sweden there is approximately 1 gun to every 5 people and you don’t hear about any major gun onslaughts in that country.

We need to stop trying to pattern our economic/educational/medical/security systems on FAILED measures which have been adopted by the United States of America and start adopting PROVEN measures that actually work.

The only thing that is great about America is their military and their incarceration rate.

When did u hear that it is lawful for some one to bring in guns into the island. Its either that u are living in Mars or Jupiter

    • anonymous2
      January 8, 2017

The reason that there is fear is because the people have nothing to protect themselves. One the other hand, many people, unless they are thoroughly trained should not have guns in DA. Yet there are many floating around that can be had for a price. The criminals all have guns. So how do you think that banning guns, which they already have in general in DA, is going to improve the situation? In places where the population is qualified to have guns, crime is greatly reduced. People are the problem, not the guns.

      January 8, 2017

Do the words “illegal guns” ring a bell?

    • The Truth Be Told
      January 8, 2017

It must be a grave concern. All law-abiding D/cans and wherever they reside in the world, should be concerned. Those who use these guns pose a hazard and fatal ones to the life of D/cans.
It is our country and it makes us sad that such is occurring in our beautiful and peaceful island which we knew it.
A few years ago I asked, how did these guns enter D/ca which does not have a gun shop? No response was forthcoming.
Well, common sense will inform us they either came through illegal means or that they eluded custom officials or that they were deliberately allowed in. They are sold especially to non law-abiding nationals. Some of them think it is a toy but it is a dangerous one and use it unscrupulously at the least argument and for crimes.
This is something the government must look into and try to eradicate.

For a while, to a certain extent all was well in D/ca. Now the stabbings, shootings and murders have commenced in early January 2017. What will occur throughout the year?
It may not be easy to avoid an argument. It should be easy to walk away from it.
Arguments occur easily. Someone makes a statement. The other replies amicably, sarcastically or angrily. It could end up in injury or murder.
Some are unable to converse and argue amicably. Ignorance, inconsideration and wickedness of heart cause a discussion/argument to end in injury and murder.
This is a society of such people to be transformed. Counseling and rehabilitation is necessary.
Those who operate the Village Council, in each village must do something about that, to educate their villagers to learn to communicate, discuss/argue amicably and get along with their fellow people. This would avoid arguments which could prove dangerous and avoid atrocities as injuries and murders.
    It can be done.

    • anonymous2
      January 8, 2017

Maybe it could be done, except for the fact that too many people have no interest in doing it. There is too much wickedness in DA these days.

Dominica these days is like a cursed nation, like a nation that turned from Jehovah, no matter the amount of churches we have. That curse began in 2000, when we, because of hate and stupidity removed a government that was working all over in the country and offered hope to all. Since that 2000 crime was committed, we opened the door to the devil and all we are seeing is manifestation of his works as the country gets from very bad to terribly worse. In that same year Rosie, the one we voted uwp for, was buried; four years later it was Piero who succeeded Rosie (my sympathy to both families). That’s how Skerrit, a poor boy without a bicycle came on the scene, and from 2004 to this date, is in ur face corruption upon corruption, house burnt Christmas day and now boxing day, then there is murder upon murder, lots of stabbings and drive by shootings, as if violence and crime is the capital of Dominica, althougj Erica and other storms tried to teach us. Y are we so blind? Can we not see?

When we have a leader of a country, saying no law, no constitution can prevent him from doing what he wants, the property his parents willed to him, the same leader who told his supporters on a political platform to harrass hiss opponents, the same leader who told the same leader we heard far and near saying that if the opposition win the election blood will flow, the same leader who told his supporters to harrass and bully poeple wherever they see them even in churches, what do we expect, children do what they see, and do what they hear, guns coming in no investigation, people dissappearing no search, fire in airport he knows who put the fire, a massive fire in silver lake less than 24 hours the crime scene was tampered etc, if a leader can do, say and rushed to judgment without being question by the relevant authorities what do we expect, no if no but about it skerrit the leader is reposible for the lawlessness in Dominica

ppl with unlicensed firearms don’t normally keep it at their home in view of everyone. they are most like hidden somewhere. so even if the Police know he has an unlicensed firearm and don’t know where he has it what do u expect them to do? maybe if u have that information u should provide the Police with it

    • simple
      January 8, 2017

Police do right. They are police and still has to throw the same license process that a civilian has to go though to own a personal fire arm to protect them selves and their families if not they are only allowed to work with government fire arm which is not as advance as those out there. Before they fire a bullet their job, life and families are at risk. Police themselves are always busy to do investigate police. (Not saying that investigation should not be done on police). The law is for the civilians, they get away with shooting, police don’t. So let them shoot. Money small, family and life are at risk.
