Man to be charged with Glanvillia, Portsmouth shooting

Police have detained a man in connecting with the shooting of another identified as Georges George in Glanvillia, Portsmouth, late last week. The incident occurred at about 10:30 pm on Thursday.

According to police spokesman Claude Weekes, the 36-year-old was shot in the leg and has received medical attention. He was released from the hospital about 36 hours after being admitted.

Weekes said the assailant is in custody and is likely to be charged and taken before the court today.

Both men live in the same community.

I am so disappointed with our justice system or lack thereof. Our country has become the wild, wild, west. The only thing missing is lynching, mobing and hanging from a tree. Citizens are allowed to take matters into their own hands. Lawlessness is accepted because punishment is non existent. I am giving the judiciary system one assignment. Over the las ten years in Dominica, how many killers have walked away from the courts with mere slaps on the wrists. People who are responsible for taking another person’s life have been allowed to walk free. This just set up the stage for others to kill.

When the best magistrate ever, Mr. ‘Follow’ ‘Mano’ Emanuel sat on this banch, it was a respectable one. He instilled respect for the law into lawless heads. They knew they would be punished if they commited a crime. Ever since, we have had wash up magistrates who spend time condemning other magistrates instead of doing their jobs. Murderers on bail? Only in Dominica. People involved in a person’s death even if it wasn’t intentional, walking free. Others who were to be hung, get to kill again. Drug crazed youth brutally murdering his friend and then on bail. Free as a bird enough to even be a photographer and sending pictures to DNO.

Our country is lawless and I strongly blame the law enforcers. The police take these people to the courts and then the courts free them. There could be a smoking gun, 20 eyewitnesses, bloody clothes, a video and the courts will still find a way to free the killers. It is not a wish, but I guess things will change when it hits home or close enough to home.

The crime in Portsmouth is causing an alarm to residents and even Ross University, becareful if Ross is intending to pack up because of this and also the surrounding Hotels. We need to have Police patrols in the that Community and also Roseau.

Don’t send him to Tiyani, send him to the chief magistrate. She let him go the first time. Maybe she will let him go again. So they create their mess to make Tiyani look bad and all you want him to clean it up?
Tiyani we love you and God is not a police. More will be thrown right back in their faces

I need to ascertain, What is happening in our lovely Island? Everytime it is either a shoting or killing.
I am becoming very, very concerned.I know times has changed and so does men, however does it have to be like this?. I am from Portsmouth , and in growing up we never had that sort of behaviour, I know there were a bit of fighting like fist to fist and now ant then a stabbing which of course can be fatal, but nothing on a large scale like this.

Please my fellowmen stop! I believe we as a nation depends heavily on the Tourists who comes to our island, please donot let them stay away. I was listening to DBS radio with Stephen D this morning and all prayers are for these to be stopped. I know it is diffcult at times, but please ponder before taking this sort of action towards each other.

Tiyani had the one who did the shooting on remand in relation to another shooting incident. 11 people were hurt as a result of that incident. Our dearest Chief Magistrate released him. Now he did another shooting. If she had kept him on remand then that would have never happened. I wonder how she feels right now. She think she is destroying Tiyani but she destroying her own self.

  18. September 27, 2010

Please send him to Tiyani………so that he can make an example out of him…Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
