McKinley “JR” Williams will later this week know his fate in the case of murder against him.
Williams of Center Street, Kingshill is alleged to have murdered his cousin Dwight Auguiste between December 3-24, 2013.
The State, led by Trinidadian lawyer Keith Scotland, has called several witnesses to testify in the matter including the mother and sister of Williams, who were both related to the deceased.
According to his mother, Pamela Williams, on December 4, 2013, about 2:30pm she came home from work and went to do some washing and also started preparing lunch for her children.
McKinley, she said, came home and said that he was “hungry,” then Auguiste, who she said was “mentally ill,” went for a stone and started a fight with McKinley.
“He was sending objects at him and McKinley told him that he did not want to fight with him,” she said.
However, they ended up in a fight and she and her daughter (Shermani St. Rose) had to separate them.
She said that she returned to do her chores and about 45 minutes later heard someone call her name and she went out down the street and saw Auguiste lying under a nearby truck with what appeared to be blood coming from his mouth. She said he was motionless.
She left when he was taken away by the ambulance.
Juliana Rosy Brumant, another witness, spoke about hearing a quarrel and went out and saw it was between both men (McKinley Williams and Dwight Auguiste).
She said she saw McKinley hit Auguiste and then went past the truck. McKinley, she said, was on top of Auguiste on the road.
Speaking from the prisoner’s dock, McKinley denied striking his cousin. He said that they were in a fight but he left and went down the road.
According to him (McKinley), a few minutes after the fight he met the Postman who told him that he saw Auguiste while walking up some steps tumbled and hit his head on the truck nearby.
He said he was aware that his cousin (Auguiste) was sick but he was not responsible for his death.
The prosecution is alleging that after the fight, McKinley left the house and followed Auguiste and attacked him unprovoked, resulting in his death.
An eight-woman, one-man jury is hearing the matter presided over by Justice Victoria Charles-Clarke.
Both sides have since closed their case with the defense calling two witnesses to testify on behalf of McKinley. Darius Jones is lawyer for the defense.
The defense and prosecution is expected to address the jury this week after which the case will be summed up by the trial judge who will then ask the jury to retire to consider their verdict.
there is no postmsn in kingshill. one lady that working in that post office since it build… that whole story a mess… persons who kill walk away ehile those who did something less are remanded..
OK. What about the postman? Did they ever interview him/ Was there even a postman? I feel sorry for the family because all of them are suffering; they’ve lost BOTH relatives: one to jail and the other, to death.
Dwight was not mentally ill…there will never be truth when someone is tryna cover their doings… this story is total b.s. dwight did not deserve to be murdered. he was a very humbled and quiet person even while he was as they say “mentally ill”.. Dominica needs justice for all the lives that have been taken.. too many people quiet… too many cover ups and pay offs
Some people have been known to tease the mentally ill which could spur them on to retaliate. Who is telling the truth? He was mentally ill and was not responsible for what he did. Think of something to stop him from throwing stones. It is futile informing a mentally ill person to stop. They may not understand and may increase their action.
Some people need counseling on how to handle a mentally ill person. There are some people who do not consider calling the police immediately to help to stop such actions but take matters into their hands.
You have a bedroom? Simply go in it and lock the door. You do not fight a mentally ill person. You should try to stay away from someone as that. You should not have gone after him and harmed him.
A few more thoughts. Some action must have led to the mentally ill man taking up a stone and throwing it at him. Was this the first time he threw stones at him? Who was really the perpetrator?
The Court should find out if he has ever teased him. If so, how many times and what was the reaction of his cousin.
The mentally ill man was not in a position to defend himself..
Let the Court decide on his fate. They have the evidence.
lmao. “including the mother and sister who were both related to the deceased?” off course they were related to the deceased if it is his mother and sister. No need to say they were related to him.
Interesting – so where is the postman who allegedly saw the young man tumble etc……..?
