Martinique scouts burgled

Liverpool

One camera, one pair of shoes, one backpack, various pieces of apparel and an unspecified amount of money among other things were reported stolen on the night of Sunday August 7, 2011 when thieves slit three tents of a contingent of Martinique scouts camping at the Newtown Primary School.

The scouts were the guests of the Dominica Scout Association and members of the Grand Bay and St. Joseph Scout Troops are also camping with the French scouts.

President of the Dominica Scout Association, attorney-at-law Anthony Commodore was irate over what he called “a rabid display of the arrant deviance that is the signature of many, but not all youths on Dominica today.”

Top scout, Chief Scout Commissioner Bonti Liverpool blasted the perpetrators. “I take a decidedly dim view of that violation of common decency,” the scout boss rasped. “That type of deviant behavior is precisely what scouting is combating and to have it happen to us is a nasty affront to what we stand for. We cry…FOUL!!”

The police was called to the scene, and while their investigations have not yet netted the thieves, a sweep of the surrounding area by scouts and Newtownians produced some of the stolen items.

Chief Scout Commissioner Bonti Liverpool is like a voice crying in the wilderness. I certainly hope that he is more successful than John the Baptist. From what I hear of the guy he was a top civil servant who fell to drugs and alcohol.

He has bounced back to become the Chief Scout Commissioner, the Vice President of the Writers’ Guild, founder of the Wisdom To Know Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centre, Unit Commander of the Grand Bay Unit of the Dominica Cadet Corps. He visits schools and other institutions inspiring young persons and others. From a drug addict and alcoholic, the guy has become the perfect role model for Dominican youth.

Sadly, thieves have been around ever since human beings were created and sadly, too, there may be thieves until the end of time. The world consists of good and bad people and those who do not respect the property of others and are a menace to society.
One day, God will punish them for their crimes and robbing from others who are also in need of especially young people as the Martinique scouts.
Those thieves do not consider that the items and money which the scouts had were given to them by parents, other relatives and probably by raising funds so that they could take the trip to Dominica.
I know how it feels when young people especially are planning a trip to other lands whether for vacation or for sporting events, as examples. They work hard to raise funds for this trip. Some of them may save their allowance and others through working at part-time, temporary jobs for as much as a year, more or less, to raise funds for their trip. Excitedly, they look forward to the trip.
Stealing from them also dampens their spirit in having an enjoyable time and visit.
Shame on you thieves. You should know that “Thou Shalt Not Steal” and “Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor’s Goods”. You are to welcome your visitors, be hospitable to them and not steal from them. You have placed hardship on your visitors and also given your country a bad reputation.
I do hope you are caught and receive the full brunt of the Law.

Lack of economic opportunity and increased Tourism always has this effect. Only when we begin to address the economic crisis will the criminal closk be reset.

    Tourism is vital for DA.

It is more than time to bring back the Cat o’ nine tails!!! When you spare the rod, you spoil the child. The culprits most likely never got punished when they did something wrong in their childhood, especially during their impressionable years.

So, they never understood that there is a big difference between right and wrong.

Let’s not wait until it is too late to dole out the correct punishment to those who harm others. Bring back the Cat ‘o nine!

How unfortunate, that no one has yet to say something against this kind of conducts.

But if this is the conducts of youths in New Town, or wherever they may have evolved from in Dominica, parents, do not forget that you are responsibility for the discipline and training of your children’s attitude and conducts in your community.

It is easy for everyone to cry down the Government, complaining about what they are not doing for our children, our youths of the future adult generation, including this, that, and the other complaints.

One thing I know is that Mr. Prime Minister and his fellow workers of government are not responsible for the habits or practices of my young son or daughter.

My child can only develop and mature with the principles of Life according to my guidance; mine alone, by the strength of God in me–not even through the ideas of someone else; like social worker, priest, pastor, teacher, book, or television show.

In other words, my child depends on my ways to do his ways. It is up to me and no one but me.

But I can do one of two things: I can nurture him/her through the principles of Life–God be with me. Or I can neglect him/her, just as I neglected learning for myself–the reason many children develop into young people, into adult existence, having simply chosen their own ways, which are always ugly ways.

The conducts mentioned in this news article is definitely unacceptable in a community! Yes, I agree, that is a foul behavior.

These are the conducts and attitude we should voice out aloud, to speak to the minds of our children–our young men and women in our community–that their thoughts of ettiquete might go into effectiveness.

As human beings, ourselves, we need to know how to respect the lives and property of our fellow man! Good grief!

These actions a truly repulsive. However, whether we like it or not, DA is not immune to the continued decay of the twenty first century as perpetuated by the MTV generation, and the need to have without putting a seed in the ground.

Now, Lizavier4Jesus. You need to stop. You can’t raise a child in a robotic/Pavlovian state. A child can’t be raised in a lab, mate. Independent thought and self-realization is vital to growth. Using your method, a child will present an angelic mannerism in the parent’s presence, but once the child steps out the door, the hidden desire to explore comes alive – sometimes in the worst way.

You can never plug all the holes in a dam.

“Now, Lizavier4Jesus. You need to stop. You can’t raise a child in a robotic/Pavlovian state. A child can’t be raised in a lab, mate. Independent thought and self-realization is vital to growth. I quote from your comment above. a parent has to do what is right and train the child in the correct way. Let him/her know the way of the Lord and the way of the other side – the enemy of our soul. We have to keep conversation withour children and teach them that not all “the World” is doing is correct. You must understand that the Bad things will have the crowd around. The christian like or godly (peculiar) people will be ridiculed etc. But those who endure will be the one rewarded. Robotic but one must be able to speak and train and be an example to their children. Each one of us have to answer for ourself but that same child even brought up robotic according to you when the going gets rought will come back to the values you taught them. Guidance is needed for nuturing those young minds. If you talk and do things differently then you will be sending mixed, wrong and confused signals. all in all Love is the key in all of that. Love needs to be given to our children – real caring, listenning to their fears. The bottom line is having an intimate relationship that they can share their fears with you as parents instead of going out there looking for love and getting the wrong message out in the world.

We must stop making excuses for our shortcomings. Excuses are from the ” Enemy of our Soul”

Lizavier4Jesus welcome back. Were you on holidays? Thumbs up to your comment. We both know that the majority of persons out there will not agree with your post. Indeed we as parents are responsible for the upbringing of our children. Train up a child in the way of the Lord and when he gets older he will not depart from it. I myself has had my challenges with raising my children – 5. But to God the Glory, I have seen the Glory of him in my children. Not only have I heard my daughter correcting her son ( the same way I used to correct her and she was not pleased). I am unable to make too many examples but I give thanks and Praise to God.

My point though is that parents now do not want to take their responsibility and the norm is to blame everyone else – Government. Parl Rep, Others for the ills of their children. Come on wake up parents. Look internally- are we talking and doing and acting different. We have to look inward at our selves first. Another advice – Parents take a stand on behalf of your household even it is you alone and submit to the Lord and let his wisdom and spirit come and take control. He has promised to never leave ust and to lay our burdens at his feet. But in order to suceed in these times, you have to be obedient and do his will. Stop looking at the world and blaming others. Just do as the Lord would want you to do and you will see the results. What he has done for me, he can do for you. I know it is a terrible time. With God all things are possible.

        @???

I am around. I am always reading the news articles and most of the comments. But I just do not comment quite often, as I am aware that the majority will not understand me.

Also, some people say the same thing I would say, so why repeat! I just give them thumbs up.

I only comment when God’s Holy Spirit compels me to do so. It is up to people to accept my comments or not to do so. God does not force anyone.

I am glad that you are a parents just like me, and your have the principles of Life–the Ways of God, the attitude and conducts of Jesus Christ, the way I understand it.

I was a child also, and now I live by the principles my mom and dad nurtured in me. I have two brothers and seven sisters who are now adults and nurturing their own children. We are a well bred people.

Without the loving nurture of my mother and fathe, we could have been a different people today–but now I give thanks to them for their influence in my Life.

No mother and father wants to raise their child like a robot as that person above suggested–that is foolishness. It is not about Love.

Yes children will grew up into adults and they will have their own ways. For there comes a time when we have no control over what they choose to do–no matter how much we love them.

But I would prefer to know that my son will say “mama and daddy tried” instead of saying I never had a good advise from my mother and father, and he would go on to blame us for the way he turned to be.

Thanks to God, my only son is 30 years old and he is a well mannered young man.

Thank you for your defense, in my behalf; and I am so glad that at least 7 people understand where I am coming from. Blessings to you and them!

great idea. Hit the French, good job. Think of how most tourists come to Dominica. Right, most of them come via Martinique or Guadeloupe.

Now imagine the French issuing warnings about Dominica, not safe, even scouts get targeted (!). Many short trips from the neighbor islands will not take place anymore.

This is in fact a very effective and fast way to scare off one the most important sources of income, thusly destroying many jobs in Dominica.

Victims are not only the scouts. Victim is EACH an ANY honest and decent citizen.

It may not have been a good idea but they thought that it was safe to camp out.
They had a right to camp in Newton, I suppose on the Savannah which is an open, appropriate place. It saved hotel and other accommodation costs.
They trusted all Dominicans and that their belongings were safe.
It depends how many of them traveled to Dominica. The Dominica Scouts’ Club should have made arrangements in homes to put them up.
Since schools are closed at this time, they could have been allowed to sleep there as in a gym if any. I do hope in future they will consider this.
