McCarthy Marie threatens legal action for defamation

Marie is threatening legal action for defamation

Information reaching DNO indicates that Mc Carthy Marie, through his lawyers, has written to Arden Forde and Edgar Hunter demanding an appropriate apology for alleged defamatory statements made by the two against him.

The defamatory statements made by the recipients of the letters were allegedly made on the 6th of December 2016.

The defamatory statements allegedly accused Marie of exploiting Dominica’s musicians for his own benefit and he is, in fact, all for himself while pretending to be interested in the welfare of local musicians.

The letter from Marie’s attorneys gives Forde and Hunter two weeks to make the appropriate apologies failing which they will file an action for defamation in the high court on behalf of Marie.

Looks like the venerable economist has decided to join the bandwagon, otherwise known as the defamation gravy train. I wonder, are awards by the court under this legislationsubject to income tax? Some might see it as unearned income.

People are now exercising their rights to defend their good name and reputation and all of a sudden our people find that to be distasteful. freedom of Speech is not freedom to say whatever you want. With that freedom of free expression comes responsibility to be measured and to give accurate information. This is the new age. people have every right to protect their name and character. So it is the era of protecting names and character. Those who cannot understand that simple fact will pay dearly.

Sounds like a good time to be a tailor in DA: suits are in endless demand. Senior Counsel order multiple suits. Attorney General order a couple suits. Ambassador A get his suit delivered by first class mail. Byrd had his suit delivered by British mail. Mr. Wanabee economist/musician placed his order toute de suite. Is a good thing the Men of the Cloth are on board the gravy train to ensure an endless supply of cloth are delivered for requested suits.

Way de calypsonians dem. I just give you a story line for your next calypso, free of charge. You’re welcome!

People must be careful of stones that they throw. Some do this on DNO. Your day is coming for making innuendos and insulting people including DNO users which they do not deserve.
Watch what you say to whom and where you say it. People need to discipline themselves and think twice before they talk. If this is what it takes to smother some people’s mouth, so be it.

Come Marie, get a real life. Everyday is about Music defamation or Music Copyright. Is that what you live on all day. And the music makes no sense at all. No rhythm, no symphony, no juice in the music. Pure garbage.

I guess I too should be prepared for a lawsuit, because outside of Ophelia, who is his wife, who else has Marc really assisted on the island? Can anyone name a musician or artist that Marc has brought to the international arena that’s a household name, even within Caribbean circles? Outside of WCK whose music receives a snippet of airplay on David Levy’s Caribbean Fever, there are no other Dominican acts to receive a few seconds of air time, far less for an entire song play. These people talk a lot, but when it comes to the proof of the pudding, there’s very little to go by.

This is the new money making scheme in Dominica at the moment. Sue in court for everything. So Marc was defamed because two men shared their opinions about his work and they were unhappy with his representation of musicians on the island and he was defamed in that process. So the apology from both men will stop defaming him and somehow change the perceptions of others on the island, thereby reaffirming a more robust and positive image.

What a joke of a country. This is a land of litigating where everyone wants to take legal action against someone if he or she coughs.

    Dominica the land of nincompops

You got it wrong bro. It’s a land where too many people think they can say what they want, when they want about anyone and get away with it. Times are changing and this is not because we are dumb. We need to gaggle more Listerine.

No it’s a country where prople believe they can say whatever they feel like. Irrespective of the frivolous nature of their statements and especially the repercaussions to the inviduals character, career and life in general.

People have to understand people’s careers depend on their reputation and they”re entitled to protect that and not have it taken away by loose vexatious uterances. Meant more to hurt the indicidual more than anything else.

Even if you “suspect” something unless you have substantiating evidence, do not go PUBLIC with it.

This loose tongue culture that is taking hold in Dominica must be arrested. And while there is no “criminal” law against it, agreed “reasonalble persons” social standards hold us responsible and eventually culpable. It is for the good of ALL OF US.

We in Dominica love to support and defend questionable actions when they are politicaaly or personally expedient. But wait till the script is flipped.

My song for next year calypso: “Defamation”. Dominicans have too much “lang kaka”. Although I don’t see that one going anywhere, it’s too general. A good lawyer can easily throw nullify that lawsuit.
