A man who was accused of the theft of over $51,000 from a Roseau business place was denied bail when he appeared in court on Thursday.
Michael Peters, a supervisor at Phone Tech, was arrested and charged for theft of $51,655.78.
When he appeared in court the charge was read to him and Police Prosecutor Michael Laudat said bail should not be granted arguing that the money “is yet to be recovered” and more time is needed.
Peters did not enter a plea since the matter is an indictable one.
Laudat said Peters was “interviewed and admitted to the offense.”
He stated that the prosecution fears Peters might interfere with witnesses and pervert the course of justice.
However, the objection to bail did not go down well with Peters’ lawyer, Zena Dyer.
She labeled the move “improper exercise of police power.”
She said there are no issues of interference and the police were abusing their powers.
But Laudat said a period of three more weeks is needed to continue investigations and the police were in the process of going to the banks to get certain information as it relates to the case.
The matter was adjourned to March 20, 2014.
Peters was a supervisor at Phone Tech and the police report that the alleged theft took place between June 2 and 6, 2013.
alas I feel sorry for him. What is wrong with this guy:?
Well said.. This could be you father your husband your brother your child. Why are you so fast to judge this man. Please do your home work before you open you big dirty mouth. Who know what you did last night.. Cat take your toung. Hold it there. Checkyourlife.com
You’ll need to leave this man alone. What is wrong with you people. I know this man we grow up in the same home. Innocent until proven guilty what happen to that. If is was you would you like people point finger on you. That’s mess up when you don’t even know the whole story. Who are you to judge this man. If god is with him no one is against him. Michael keep your head up. If theirs anything we can help you with just say the word. Put this in god hands.
I am an advocate of justice and truth. You do not know what I do behind the scenes.
I cannot help but comment about what I read on DNO. I thank DNO for providing us with the current news that we may provide our comment.
As an example, a few months ago, a man from Laudat murdered a ‘Bertrand’ man. The next day he was granted bail. This gets me angry that he who took a God-given precious life was granted bail the following day. Yet this man was not granted bail for assumed theft.
You know, if they keep this up one day I will be writing the Human Rights International about this Dominica Court. You do not exercise your duty fairly to all Dominicans.
Keep in mind that Dominica receives outside financial help from various countries at the cost of overseas taxpayers hard-earned money.
The Dominica Court better clean up its unfair act.
for all you people talking about de pm, is skerro who make de man volé?
If this guy had stay there for a year, he would have taken $3,723,000.00. Stole $51,000 in 5 days. He was not smart.
He should have given bail for $500,000.00
My boy peters again u need Devine prayers and intervention. You need spiritual cleansing. Bro u are sick spiritually u need immediate help in jesus name and by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I command every evil, dark spirits, spells, , voodoo practices that is working in u and against u be returned to where they came from and be replaced with a blessing in the mighty name of Jesus . Amen.
“Divine”. The name, “Jesus”, commences with a capital letter.
I am not condoning what he did. However, I do feel sorry for him.
If you are such a Christian, you must have compassion for him. Remember the words of Our Lord: “I did not come for the righteous. I came for the sinners.”
Today, even worse, there is not one non-sinner.
Holy Scriptures tells us, “All have sinned and fallen short of his glory.” I like to say, some more so than others.
Even those who are religious and say they read the Bible and know it chapter for chapter and verse for verse as they speak of it, teach and preach it, need God’s spiritual cleansing.
Boy peters boy hmmm
i feel sorry for u Mr. Peter I do not know u but it is not justice that you cannot get bail where murderers and attempted murder to two elderly after he ran away is getting bail. Even the prosecutor who asked a woman to abort a child for him and because she refused he is not maintaining the child the child is 13years. The woman took him to court and the same thing with the justice system is who are you the magistrate the lawyers even the woman lawyer did not give justice to the woman by coming with the point that the child in more than a year and is not carrying the man last name and the prosecutor is owing the woman so much money for child maintenance who is denying him bail? This is also thieving his is thieving the woman child money
“PERVERT” the course of justice? Lol fix that!
Grant the man bail his not a murderer. The person who denied this guy bail is very cold hearted, whereas murderers walking the streets in style.
according to my Cuzzin, act all you wage
This will keep happening….
until change comes from the top down…..
This will keep happening….
until Dominicans lean priciple and ethics….
My bro to. Hell with ppl some of them doing worse than you did and they still walking cause they have friends in high places. Dominicans whether he confessed or not he is yet to. Be judged and as the good book says let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Only Satan supports sin.
DomInicans suffering under skerro
This is not a political thng. Some Dominican people are just greedy. They want things now. They do not want to work hard for it so they just steal it from other people.
so true
Folks, be careful how you respond when others are in peril. The way you respond to the world’s problems, the world will respond the same way when you have yours. We do not know the circumstances surrounding this. I do not condone any thing that is wrong. But instead of crying down the man, pray for him and his family. We are a Godly people and we must seek to follow Christ’s example. None of us know what situation we will end up in. Please, let us not condemn the man like that.
a murderer got bail this week but not a thief, what justice is that?.. go figure. what is happening to Dominica justice system?
Fellow Dominicans always remember a baby creeps and crawls before it walks. Live within your means, concentrate on your needs and not your wants. People money is not yours, doh touch it. Shop wisely. Live on your salary not above it. Do some other work outside the 8 to 4 and make a few extra dollars. Fellas doh let materialistic woman make all you do what all you know all you should not do.
I’m not condoning what he did but why denied him bail this system sucks. Do you this it’s right that murderers walking the streets on bail next day after taking one’s life and you all denied bail for stealing. Life is really cheap by the law system in DA.
You need to understand that the funds have not yet been retrieved. If bailed he may interfere with the investigations. That makes sense to me.
for that man to do that his family must have needed money badly. i kno him to be a good man
It have more behind dat story micheal didn’t do any ting all he have 2 do is cry on dre head and day will get it.
I would not have given him bail either because in a matter of days 4-5 days Mr stole $50,000. that is like taking $10,000 a day. Magway sa.
let he who have no faults of his own cast the first stone….your jack***.
For ho mista had me on a level inside CH proves to say judge no man
les bab camarade ou pwi defei, wuze sau. sa mion devant sau deriere.
some of you people need to shut up honestly , is Dominica filled with illiterate people?? from the looks of things the answer is NO , and shut up about the my mother always use to tell me don,t jealous people for what they have thats so old and lame ,not everyone that has things stole to get it thanks you, maybe if some off allu get jealous off ppl allu would get up of allu lazy behind and go and look for work to do so allu can look like ppl shate …………I REST MY CASE
i did not get you point
You sound illiterate to me…lol
I have no idea what you tried to say.
by boy if you had take twenty dollars to buy bread for you and your family i do , not mind because they were hungry that night but 51,ooo dollars boy all you to greedy eh creep before you walk please
hello so tony not interested in that case i wonder why
I am sorry Michael is in that state……again I say, Act Your Wage.
So sad to see my brother caught in these allegation’s. It is very painful as a family friend. Sis just hold your head high. May the Good Lord bless and keep u and the children and give his peace. Jah Bless. Just telling his mom and family members to pray unto the most high. as
Amen to that…..i agree full time after a storm there is a calm and i just pray that his family hold strong and stick together in this situation..god is good…..i just hate that nation we live in Dominicans will always talk talk and talk and add and substract casue a parrot we have on our flag..Jah
Lady B
what the heck i hearing here no bail for stealing me the police are corrupted and as Buju Banton said “thief never like to see thief with long bag. Justice systems stinks in Dominica.
So no bail for theft but bail is set for attempted murder. hmmmm. Well it depends on who does it.
What u talking about?a man get bail the day after he committed “manslaughter”
oh shut ur dirty mouth is because u dont know nutting you saying that get some facts before you judge someone typical stupid dominican!!!!!!!!!!!
Your surname is ‘stupid’ right?
how dumb can u be all dat money in 4 DAYS
My feeling is that it is pure speculation that he will interfere with witnesses.
Other people – thieves – who stole exorbitant sums of money from their employer were granted bail. Why not him?
I am informing you people, police and the Court. If I were the PM of Dominica I would fire all of you who operate this Kangaroo Court.
Otherwise, you are in dire need of re-training and common sense to operate the DA Court sensibly and fairly. Some of you do not deserve the exorbitant monthly income that you receive.
Just as you have done in the past, bail him on conditions that he should interfere with witnesses. Failure to do this, then, you should incarcerate him. For God’s sake! Allow him bail!
“he should ‘not’ interfere..”
When he give back the money he will get bail.
Pray that you, any member of your family or anyone you personally know never find themselves in that situation or other. God has a way of punishing people like you for your words.
Justice and Truth……well said….that is a good example of a poor justice system, they do not know what they are doing or they do not have standards…poor excuss for a justice system…stupes
Thank you! Your compliment is greatly appreciated. It encourages me to stand up and speak out for fairness and the truth.
My parents, their teaching and example taught me to always be fair. As an adult I weigh out situations. As a Catholic Christian, the Lord has shown me much through inspiration. I do my utmost to exercise it for the good of all.
God bless you!
i agree…….somuch crimes going on a man just kill another young man and he was granted bail so y that brother man is so unfortunate….to much crime them police doing and covering up yyyyy Micheal…geeze man
There’s a difference between committing a crime INTENTIONALLY and having to fight for your life and luckily end up walking out alive. You people are sick sick sick….
A man THIEF the people $510000 in an instant ‘jackpot’ and u want to put that on the same level as a man who was attacked with a cutlass and fought for his life…?
@Justice & Truth But the PM himself needs to be fired.
Dont the judges and majestrate s read this is so out of this world
You need to be fired. What if God told you, you are fired for your sins, no Heaven for you? Keep this in mind.
From the looks of things in Dominica, if you still you will not get bail or it will be set high, BUT if you kill, bail no jail.
killing and stealing to me are the same broken commandments just as is for fornication and adultery which we all have been part off
Lord look trouble. Where my woman Hazelhira i know she must be causing a daybar but the courts all now..
u find that’s the most appropriate thing to say if she’s so much your girl. You all low life people jus don’t know when to stop
This is so sad. We must do something to help our people, just too much sadness.
Apparently the guy is guilty before being proven innocent! upside down Dominica.
you must be a Jack. The gentleman confessed maysiay..
Are you people serious in Dominica? How could theft not be a bailable offense. A man tries to kill an elderly couple in their homes and is bailed for 20-K. Dominica is rotten to the core!!!
Get no bail for stealing but da murderers always get bail hmmmm
So sorry to hear that about my friend, temptation is all over, I know things are tight financially but we must always remember ask and you shall receive. If he really needed all that money to do whatever there’s always lending institutions. So sorry the money had to tempt you.
well, well, well, ex prison officer turns prisoner
Come on! Let’s caught the cloth to suit. Don’t be too eager to live a life you cannot support. Keep your foot on the ground. It make sense to wait.
DNO just heard a man entering the Port with a Bus to collect load was searched and Ganja was found on the bus. The man was taken to the Director of Security and CID was called. Thee man is now in Police custody.
People must no that entering the Port with drugs is illigal and they will be persecuted.
Heard the Man is from Scott’s Head and is a well know tourist driver.
Where those sooteeware now? He admit so long but you will still come here and deny and say he hiding for somebody, stupes. Always making excuse for friends thats why they continue to embarass you and themselves. Even with priors you all still making excuses, no wonder the priest thing making so much roro, they will see but they will deny, carry on,
alas. poor michael. i feel sorry for you.
When he was spending the people money whom did he feel sorry for? Did he feel sorry for the employer who gave him a second chance at decency after he blank blank blanck prison job? I feel sorry for Phone Tec.
Hmm it have plenty more to come. “Fast cash! Big Money” wayyyy laylay
Well well well. My mom always said never envy anyone for you don’t know how they get what they have.
