No bail for man accused of theft

Peters
Peters

A man who was accused of the theft of over $51,000 from a Roseau business place was denied bail when he appeared in court on Thursday.

Michael Peters, a supervisor at Phone Tech, was arrested and charged for theft of $51,655.78.

When he appeared in court the charge was read to him and Police Prosecutor Michael Laudat said bail should not be granted arguing that the money “is yet to be recovered” and more time is needed.

Peters did not enter a plea since the matter is an indictable one.

Laudat said Peters was “interviewed and admitted to the offense.”

He stated that the prosecution fears Peters might interfere with witnesses and pervert the course of justice.

However, the objection to bail did not go down well with Peters’ lawyer, Zena Dyer.

She labeled the move “improper exercise of police power.”

She said there are no issues of interference and the police were abusing their powers.

But Laudat said a period of three more weeks is needed to continue investigations and the police were in the process of going to the banks to get certain information as it relates to the case.

The matter was adjourned to March 20, 2014.

Peters was a supervisor at Phone Tech and the police report that the alleged theft took place between June 2 and 6, 2013.

You’ll need to leave this man alone. What is wrong with you people. I know this man we grow up in the same home. Innocent until proven guilty what happen to that. If is was you would you like people point finger on you. That’s mess up when you don’t even know the whole story. Who are you to judge this man. If god is with him no one is against him. Michael keep your head up. If theirs anything we can help you with just say the word. Put this in god hands.

I am an advocate of justice and truth. You do not know what I do behind the scenes.
I cannot help but comment about what I read on DNO. I thank DNO for providing us with the current news that we may provide our comment.
As an example, a few months ago, a man from Laudat murdered a ‘Bertrand’ man. The next day he was granted bail. This gets me angry that he who took a God-given precious life was granted bail the following day. Yet this man was not granted bail for assumed theft.
You know, if they keep this up one day I will be writing the Human Rights International about this Dominica Court. You do not exercise your duty fairly to all Dominicans.
Keep in mind that Dominica receives outside financial help from various countries at the cost of overseas taxpayers hard-earned money.
The Dominica Court better clean up its unfair act.

If this guy had stay there for a year, he would have taken $3,723,000.00. Stole $51,000 in 5 days. He was not smart.

He should have given bail for $500,000.00

“Divine”. The name, “Jesus”, commences with a capital letter.
I am not condoning what he did. However, I do feel sorry for him.
If you are such a Christian, you must have compassion for him. Remember the words of Our Lord: “I did not come for the righteous. I came for the sinners.”
Today, even worse, there is not one non-sinner.
Holy Scriptures tells us, “All have sinned and fallen short of his glory.” I like to say, some more so than others.
Even those who are religious and say they read the Bible and know it chapter for chapter and verse for verse as they speak of it, teach and preach it, need God’s spiritual cleansing.

i feel sorry for u Mr. Peter I do not know u but it is not justice that you cannot get bail where murderers and attempted murder to two elderly after he ran away is getting bail. Even the prosecutor who asked a woman to abort a child for him and because she refused he is not maintaining the child the child is 13years. The woman took him to court and the same thing with the justice system is who are you the magistrate the lawyers even the woman lawyer did not give justice to the woman by coming with the point that the child in more than a year and is not carrying the man last name and the prosecutor is owing the woman so much money for child maintenance who is denying him bail? This is also thieving his is thieving the woman child money

Folks, be careful how you respond when others are in peril. The way you respond to the world’s problems, the world will respond the same way when you have yours. We do not know the circumstances surrounding this. I do not condone any thing that is wrong. But instead of crying down the man, pray for him and his family. We are a Godly people and we must seek to follow Christ’s example. None of us know what situation we will end up in. Please, let us not condemn the man like that.

My feeling is that it is pure speculation that he will interfere with witnesses.
Other people – thieves – who stole exorbitant sums of money from their employer were granted bail. Why not him?
I am informing you people, police and the Court. If I were the PM of Dominica I would fire all of you who operate this Kangaroo Court.
Otherwise, you are in dire need of re-training and common sense to operate the DA Court sensibly and fairly. Some of you do not deserve the exorbitant monthly income that you receive.
Just as you have done in the past, bail him on conditions that he should interfere with witnesses. Failure to do this, then, you should incarcerate him. For God’s sake! Allow him bail!
