So far, we have concrete evidence that this bust was a planned decoy.

While the Police Anti-Drug Squad and Coast Guard were pursuing this intercept, there was a much bigger shipment which eluded us, landing at a different location.

Until marijuana is de-criminalized and/or legalized, we are obligated to enforce the laws.

    The war continues.

    • Simply the Truth
      April 16, 2014

The police will have to search a different location for the other shipment.
De-criminalized and/or legalized at their risk. It is an illegal drug and should remain on the records as is.

    April 16, 2014

Stupes. The media need to stop sell lies to the people. The headline should actually read: “Police arrest two in PLANT bust”. Marijauna a.k.a Cannabis a.k.a Weed is NOT a drug.

Def of DRUG: A drug is a substance which may have medicinal, intoxicating, performance enhancing or other effects when taken or put into a human body or the body of another animal and is not considered a food or exclusively a food. In pharmacology, a drug is “a chemical substance used in the treatment, cure, prevention, or diagnosis of disease or used to otherwise enhance physical or mental well-being.” Drugs may be prescribed for a limited duration, or on a regular basis for chronic disorders.
Recreational drugs are chemical substances that affect the central nervous system, such as opioids or hallucinogens.

Thank you… thank you very much!

    • Opinion
      April 16, 2014

I stand corrected… in pharmacology it can be considered a drug BUT it brings a lot more disgust to me knowing that exact fact! If it good for humans in one way or another then why criminalize it? There is a reason why they dont want the plant readily available to the public. You cant have a world without war so take away the peace makers? Jah alone knows what kind of conversations Obama and the middle east would be having if they were passing… it!

      April 16, 2014

something tells me you are an idiot or pot heab .look around dominica to see the number of young people sitting around looking like zumbies , doing nothing or begging robbing people. my house was broken into by two pot heads who’s parents said all they want to do is smoke weed ,they got probation and it was not long before one got 4 yrs for breaking into his aunt’ house. I think the penaties for importnig any type of eligal drugs into the country should be the death penalty or life in prison because it is destroying the country not only the users but the whole country and should be treated just like one would be treated if they brought poison into the country to poison the water supply

      • Opinion
        April 16, 2014

I apologize. I should not have made humor out of this and FYI, i am not a pot head, I am just a vigilant citizen watching around, taking a look at everything that is happening and wondering “why is there soo much trouble in the world”

        1. You must admit, i am correct, it is a plant and not a drug. it has very good purposes and can be used for the benefit of many persons in many ways. Certain persons of the human race choose to abuse this and use it as an excuse for multiple negative purposes. There are many persons, and i will say it, “high in society” that smoke weed and do they break into people’s houses? NOPE. Are they a pest to society? NOPE. I take a look at all the turmoil and simply suggest that this be given a second chance, a second review, let the people have it… as many have said, “decriminalize” it and try to keep control of it’s operations as best possible. If persons could grow the plant, something potent that would come from our rich soils, we wont have to import!

        2. Don’t be blaming the petty pot heads on the streets for being able to access it. Let me jump straight to crack cocain. It would be cliche to mention that persons in “high society” are part of the import and export of it. Do they break into persons houses? Nope. Are they a pest to society? Nope. BUT they finance these things, they let it pass, they let it slide, they make it accessible to the same person who are pest to society and feel that they need to break into people’s houses.

        3. like it or not hun, that is just the way it is. All over the world too wii. so dont ever think anyone is going to change the penalty to that suggestion of your own. Man will start to sell out man like it going out of style, police would be committing suicide because they would have to give up themselves, if you know what i mean. That’s just the way it is, so my suggestion is to simply decrimilize it.

DNO is not a place to come to come make jokes and i did. Some persons may have gotten it, some may have felt offended but please, dont blame “weed” for the cause of “ills” in society. I grew up in the hood and its hardly the pot heads who would say “let me go smoke a weed and rob someone”…. majority of the times it would be the crack cocaine that is the motivation. I apologize once again to any one who felt offended, i apologize for how you choose to feel however i will not take back what i said.

        Have a good day “power house”… 8)

Well THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) a substance in the cannabis plant does effect (the use of this word ‘effect’ is in a positive light) the brain… Also within our bodies are THC receptors (aka cannaboid receptors) which interact with THC

I will not support the importation of weed into Dominica but if the individuals are passing through or it is our people by chance exporting, then i am in support.

It is time we have a weed growers association and plan to at least export medical marijuana. No permit should be granted for importation but from growing and exportation we should look into that since that could help boast our agricultural sector.

not just legalize it decriminalize it… also have regulations such as medical marijuana cards, and stipulate amounts which can be used for recreation, this is a very profitable business venture trust me, so much revenue can be obtained from it’s decriminalization

You think the price will stay where it is today. Because it is illegal, the price remains very high. Once it is legalize, and controlled, then we will be faced with another problem. The price structure will most definitely change – mean drop as more people will be cultivating the herb. Consider the price of fish, tomatoes, water melons, or any commodity for that matter. When there is a glut on the market, the price plummets. When it is scarce, the price rises. That is exactly the case with the trade in marijuana. When the shipments are stopped by the police such as the case in point, the price on the block, or the sizes of the portions gets smaller. When it is legal and many more people can grow the herb, will we get sufficient labour for the plantations? Another important consideration is the cost of security for the plantations that must go with such a commodity. Are we prepared for liberalizing the business? Let us talk. For once Caricom is on the right track with this issue. Let us be time sober won this matter.

      • Ms Twitter
        April 16, 2014

i not even listing all those reasons, economically sound as they are. Legalizing marijuana will cause the price to drop because the ‘thrill’ of smoking something illegal would wear off. It’s the same as during the Prohibition years (research it)…when alcohol was illegal, everybody and their mother were flocking into the speakeasies in the U.S.
When Prohibition was lifted, there was an immediate drop in the price of alcohol. Nobody was interested in legal alcohol….Human nature.

You must think before you comment. What makes you think they will be honest to contribute to the country’s revenue? Make it legal and the government may never see a cent of that money or not enough of it from the sale.

Some body money is in hell street. Another young person will pay for that either through the owner or the law. Some of our commentators seem to believe thatit isonly those who are unemployed who egt involved. Consider therefore the Engineer who was implicated in a shooting at sea episode – three dead soem years ago. Was he unemployed. One of the dead in that matter ws a gifted boat builder, boat repair man with a lot of workon his hands. Was he unemployed? What about the many school aged young people who simply dropped out of High School, but are not because the “papa” showed them an easy and expensive lifestyle?. Shouldn’t they be at school earning an education that would help fight unemployment and poverty?
